Three held for robbery bid: Garhdiwala police arrested Maninder Singh, Ishwar Dass, both of Johlan, Shankar Bhaia of Bihar, presently residing at village Allarh and Yogesh Kumar of Pandori Atwal for robbery bid. The arrests were made during a raid at a choe (seasonal rivulet) near Johlan village on Tuesday evening. The police also seized a .9-mm pistol, four live cartridges and a motorcycle from the accused. Their accomplice Talvinder Singh and Sukhdev Singh both of Johlan are absconding. The accused have been booked under Section 399 and 402 of the IPC and Section 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.

Woman ends life; two booked: Allegedly tortured at the hands of her husband Pawanjit Singh of Dashmesh Nagar, Tanda, and her in-laws, for not bearing a male child, Sulekha Rani of Harmoe village allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the evening on Tuesday. Married for eight years, Sulekha was mother of two daughters. The police has booked her husband Pawanjit Singh, and her brother-in-law Sarabjit Singh under Sections 306 and 34 of the IPC. 

One held for rape bid: Chabbewal police has arrested Jagdish Rai of Lehli Kalan under Sections 376, 506 and 511 of the IPC allegedly for attempting to rape of woman of his village. The victim alleged that she was washing utensils at her house in the evening on July 24 when the accused Jagdish Rai came and tried to rape her.

District Vigilance panel meets
: P Ravneet Bittu presided over a meeting of the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee held here on Wednesday. He said sub-committees would be constituted to monitor the progress of various centre-sponsored schemes. He also urged the district administration to extend cooperation to constitute different committees. He also took stock of the use of the funds meant for the various centre-sponsored schemes.

Fake travel agent booked
: The police has registered a case of fraud under Section 420/406/506 IPC against a fake travel agent Avtar Singh and his Wife Simran of Kot Rani village. The couple is accused of duping Manjinder Kumar of Rs 2 lakh on the pretext of sending him to the UK and helping him settle there. SP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said the complainant Manjinder has alleged that the accused neither sent him abroad nor returned his money. No arrest has been made so for. 

Four booked in suicide case: The police has booked Gurjit Ram, his mother Parkash Kaur, and his two brothers Joga Ram and Narain, all residents of Malikpur village under Section 306 IPC on charges of abetment to suicide in case of the death of Gurjit’s wife Deep Kaur who committed suicide at her in-laws house.SP HPS Khakh said the deceased’s father has alleged that his daughter was being tortured both physically and mentally by her truck driver husband and other family members over the last several months. This, he said forced his daughter to commit suicide. No arrest has been made so for. 

One killed in accident: Ram Rattan of Dameli village died on the spot when a speeding vehicle hit the scooter he was driving on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road on Tuesday night. The deceased was on his way back to his village. The police has registered case and sent the dead body to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. 

Man robbed of cash, valuables: Three armed robbers allegedly snatched a motorcycle, a mobile phone and Rs 1,500 in cash from Sat Pal of Rampur village at pistol-point near Bhanoki road on Tuesday night. 

Traffic blocked: Activists of Ambedekar Sena Mool Niwasi blocked traffic on the national highway near the rest house for half an hour after they could not submit a memorandum of demands to any administrative officer. They were protesting against vandalism which left the statue of former UP Chief Minister Mayawati damaged. They then submitted a memorandum to the SHO and a peon of SDM office.

Traffic to remain closed on city road: Vehicular traffic on bridge at Patiala Ki Rao chowk, Dhanas, will be closed from August 3 to 10 due to replacement of CI pipe line. The commuters have to use an alternative route for the time period.

Date extended
: The Haryana Secondary Education Department has extended the date of admission for Classes IX to XII to August 4. A spokesman of the department said directions had been issued to all district education officers to instruct all heads of institution to extend the date of admission for these classes for the current academic session.

Sudhir Kaura dead
: Dr Sudhir Kaura, an organic farming crusader and staunch Bt-cotton opponent, committed suicide in a hotel in Mathura on Sunday. His body was found hanging from a fan. Dr Kaura was an organic farming enthusiast.

Rewari
Jawan ends life
: CRPF jawan Veer Pal (28) committed suicide by hanging himself at Gugodh village, near Kosli, on Monday. Veer Pal, who was currently posted in Srinagar, had recently returned from Chennai after participating in sports competitions there. His family members said he was suffering from mental stress these days. He is survived by his wife.

In-laws booked: On a statement by a badly burnt Poonam Yadav (25) at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, the Rewari police has registered a case of attempt to murder and harassment for dowry against her husband, Devi Lal, father-in-law Sarjit Yadav and mother-in-law Sukhdayak Devi, all residents of Palhawas village, 22 km from Rewari. Poonam, who is battling for life, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday. She was set on fire after sprinkling kerosene by her in-laws on Sunday.

BILASPUR
65-year-old man dies in road mishap: Onkar Nath (65), son of freedom fighter Mathiya Ram of Panjaitttan village in the Jukhala valley, near here, was killed when he was hit by a speeding truck on the road in his village on Monday. The truck driver fled from the spot. Villagers rushed Onkar to the Primary Health Centre at Gasaud, but doctors declared him brought dead. The deceased was a relative of freedom fighter and Civil Supplies Minister late Daulat Ram Sankhyayan and also former MLA Dr Babu Ram Gauttam, Dr Narender Sankhyayan and Dr Swatantra Sankhyayan.

2 killed as tractor trolley falls in ditch: Two persons Urmila (50) and Rajeev (15), belonging to Chemeti village, were killed and four others Ramesh, Bishember, Anita and Saroj, also of Chamati village, were injured, after a tractor trolley plunged into a ditch on Wednesday evening near Kuhna village under Nadaun subdivision. The police said the tractor trolley was deployed for MNREGA work and five labourers were travelling on it.Driver of the tractor Susheel Kumar was absconding.

Two Nepalese couriers arrested: The Kullu police on Monday arrested two Nepalese couriers after they were caught carrying 304 kg of nag chhatri in an HRTC bus from Manali. They have been identified as Karma Bahadur and Prem Bahadur.

NURPUR
One killed as jeep falls into gorge: Ranjit Singh, his wife Nirmala, son Vijay Kumar, daughter-in-law Rajni and two grandchildren were seriously injured when their Bolero jeep fell into a gorge near Batees Meel under Jawali police station late Sunday night. Villagers rushed all injured to the CHC at Shahpur where Ranjit succumbed to his injuries. All other five occupants of the jeep were referred to the Tanda medical college, Kangra.

207 kg nag chhatri seized, 2 held: The local police seized 207 kg of banned nag chhatri (Trillium-Govanianum) being smuggled to Amritsar (Punjab) on Sunday evening and arrested two persons transporting it in a tempo. A police team, led by ASI Ajit Singh, during police patrolling on the Kandwal-Bhadroya link road intercepted a tempo at Mehakar and recovered the banned herb valuing Rs 4 lakh. The police impounded the vehicle and arrested its driver Mom Deen of Chamba and other occupant Magga Ram of Sahu village in Chamba district. DSP Rajinder Jaswal said a case had been registered.
