No evidence against SHO, CBI tells court
Chandigarh, August 1 The complainant, Gagan Gupta, had moved an application in the court during the previous hearing alleging that the CBI had given a clean chit to the key accused in the case, an Inspector with the Chandigarh Police. Complainant Gagan Gupta said despite having “sufficient and cogent evidence” against Inspector Dilsher Singh, the CBI had dropped him from the corruption case. The 40-year-old complainant said Dilsher should be arraigned and prosecuted. In its response to the notice issued by the court, the CBI today stated that there was no evidence against Inspector Dilsher and that was the reason that his name was dropped from the chargesheet. On August 11, 2010, the CBI had arrested four persons: Inspector Dilsher Singh, the then SHO of the Industrial Area police station, Sub-Inspector Hans Raj, Satwant Sethi and Jujhar Singh Sethi (who own a tea stall). The four were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Gupta had alleged that Dilsher and Hans Raj had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to favour him in a case of cheating in which he was granted anticipatory bail by the court. Inspector Dilsher was arrested from the spot. A year later, on May 4, 2011, the CBI filed the chargesheet in the case and had given a clean chit to Inspector Dilsher Singh. |
