Maid sedates family, flees with booty worth Rs 5 lakh

The Sarabha Nagar police has nabbed a maid for stealing cash and jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh by sedating the members of a house in BRS Nagar yesterday. The accused, identified as
Asha, a resident of Jodhewal Basti, committed the theft a few hours after she was hired for work.
Girl goes missing
Ludhiana, July 14
High drama prevailed at Gulchaman Gali in the old city area when the parents of a 12-year-old girl claimed that she had been abducted today.
The victim identified as Surekha, daughter of Rajiv Kumar who runs a cloth printing unit, dropped her brother for tuition. In the evening, he returned to the house and told his mother that Surekha had returned home after leaving him.

Collision at Jagraon
SI succumbs to injuries
Ludhiana, July 14
Another victim of the Jagraon bus-Jeep collision, 57-year-old Sub-Inspector Gurcharan Singh died at the DMCH today. Gurcharan had sustained several injuries on various parts of his body. Doctors at the Jagraon Civil Hospital had referred him to the DMCH yesterday and he was admitted to the neuro ICU.
2 die as SUV hits cycle

A day after the horrific collision on the Ludhiana-Moga highway near here yesterday, two persons lost their lives when a speeding SUV (PB10 5686) collided head-on with their cycle late this evening. Both the accidents took place only a little distance away from each other.
MC notice to Neopolis on bylaws violation

The Municipal Corporation (MC) has issued a notice to MBD Neopolis, a mall-cum-multiplex, for building bylaws violation. The MC building branch has asked the mall authorities to remove the plastic barricades installed in the front portion of the mall and allow residents to park their vehicles there.

Body identified
Ludhiana, July 14
It was 24-year-old Monica, a Class-IV employee at BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School in Shastri Nagar, who allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Sidhwan Canal on July 9.
Her body was retrieved from the canal on July 12. The deceased's relatives identified her badly mutilated body today.

Two drug peddlers held redhanded
Jagraon, July 14
Continuing with its drive against drug peddlers in the area, the Ludhiana (rural) police arrested two drug peddlers and seized rich haul of drugs in two separate incidents. In the first incident, the Sidhwan Bet police arrested one person and seized 90 kg of poppy husk from his possession while another accused accompanying him managed to escape from the scene.
Two booked for duping people of Rs 45 lakh

The economic offence wing of Ludhiana (rural) police have booked two persons for duping several persons of around Rs 45 lakh on the pretext of getting their money doubled in one and a half years. The accused have been identified as Anil Kumar and Sunil Kumar.
