Workers accuse CITCO of adopting pick-and-choose policy: The CITCO Progressive Workers Union in a representation to the UT Adviser and other senior officials of the Chandigarh Administration has alleged that the CITCO management was adopting a pick-and-choose policy while disseminating information to the board of directors about the scams in the corporation.

Army recruits
: As many as 406 general duty soldiers, including 91 soldier clerks, selected for induction in the Indian Army at a recruitment rally organised here a few months ago were on Wednesday given an overview of the life in the Army at a function organised at Hisar Military Station. Brig K Budhwar, Acting General Officer Commanding 33 Mechanised Division, addressed the recruits. 

Anti-ragging panels: Guru Jambheshwar University has constituted anti-ragging panels in all departments. A spokesperson for the university said here on Wednesday that each panel would comprise a minimum of three regular faculty members. Efforts should be made to include a woman teacher and one male and one female senior student. The panels would keep an eye on their departments and ensure that seniors were not allowed to rag their juniors.

Two dead
: Rekha and her son, Kushpuri, were killed on the spot when they were hit by a speedy tanker near Pehowa Chowk, Pehowa, 25 km from here, on Tuesday evening. A case has been registered in this connection. 

Sonepat
Youth killed
: Deepak (20) of Sisana village was killed when a bullet hit him on the temple during the marriage ceremony of a girl in the village recently. The victim was picking up currency notes thrown by the ‘baratis’.The police has registered a case and the victim’s body has been handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination. The police has been recording the names of all ‘baratis’ who resorted to firing in the air during the ceremony.

Cong rally held at Barthin
: Youth Congress activists of the Jhandutta constituency, led by former state Youth Congress president Vikramaditya Singh, son of Virbhadra Singh, and state general secretary Vivek Kumar held a rally at Barthin on Monday. Vikramaditya, Vivek, ex-MLA Biru Ram Kishore and District Women Cong chief Anjana Dhiman addressed the rally.

Man arrested for wife’s suicide: A man was arrested on the charges of subjecting his wife to cruelty and abetting her to commit suicide in Chamba district on Tuesday. Stating this here on Wednesday, SP Kuldeep Sharma said the newly married woman strangled herself in the aftermath of the torture by her husband Vipin Kumar. 

DHARAMSALA
Kanungo arrested on graft charges: The state Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau has arrested Harbans Lal posted as Kanungo in Daliara on charges of graft. The Vigilance authorities in a press note here on Wednesday alleged that the accused revenue official was arrested while accepting Rs 3,500 as bribe from a complainant. A case has been filed against the accused official and he has been remanded into judicial custody for 14 days. 

MANDI
Eight Taiwanese nationals get jail: Eight Taiwanese nationals, who were arrested on June 12 from Chauntra near Jogindernagar in Mandi district for not possessing valid documents, were convicted on Tuesday by the Judicial Magistrate, Jogindernagar, and sentenced to seven days jail and fined Rs 10,000 each. The court further directed that the convicts be deported to Taiwan and were sent to Delhi.
