NCPCR takes Haryana govt to task
New Delhi, June 20 Shanta Sinha, chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), warned of stringent action against officials for failing to furnish complete information regarding the Apna Ghar case and said state officials would be summoned again if they did not submit a proper status report. "We have issued several directives to the government to furnish status reports on the case. The government responded just once and gave us a report, but it hardly addressed any of the issues we had raised. We have no other go but to summon state officials a second time," Sinha told PTI. Instances of sexual abuse and torture of inmates of Apna Ghar, a shelter home in Rohtak, came to light after a NCPCR team carried out a surprise raid on May 9 and rescued nearly 120 persons, including children and women. The scandal-hit home, being run by NGO Bharat Vikas Sangh, was sealed on June 9, three days after Haryana DGP RS Dalal announced the constitution of a special investigation team to probe the case. NCPCR member Vinod Tikkoo, who was a part of the team that raided Apna Ghar, described as "ridiculous" the action taken report submitted by the Haryana Government as it did not even contain details like where the rescued children were sent. "The ATR submitted is ridiculous. They are forcing us to take the matter to the court, and we have enough proof to show that we had written to them over 12 times on the issue in the past one year, but all went unheeded," Tikkoo said. — PTI |
Govt discriminating against southern Haryana: BJP
Chandigarh, June 20 “The region-specific development is leading to lop-sided development in the state. In fact, nepotism in government jobs and step-motherly treatment to a majority of the areas as far as development was concerned would play havoc with the state in the years to comes,” Harshvardhan, in charge of the BJP affairs inHaryana, told The Tribune during the course of the two-day state executive meeting, which concluded at Yamunanagar, yesterday. President of the state BJP Krishan Pal Gurjar alleged that districts in the southern part were at the receiving end of development and basic amenities, including power and water supply. Not to talk of the provision of water for irrigation, people were even getting drinking water, he alleged. Senior BJP leaders alleged that the Jat-dominated districts of the state were cornering major benefits as most of the Chief Ministers and ministers had been from that community. While Rohtak, the home district of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and represented in the Lok Sabha by his son, Deepinder Singh Hooda, had been receiving special attention, other districts, including Gurgaon, Rewari and Mahendragarh, were left to fend for themselves, alleged Gurjar. It is not for the first time that the allegation of a regional bias had been levelled against the Hooda Government. Earlier this year, the Congress MP from Gurgaon, Rao Inderjit Singh, accused the Hooda government of discriminating against the state's southern part in matters of development and funding. |

Gurjar said other leaders who would lead the agitation at various places were former Union minister ID Swami (Panipat), Ram Bilas Sharma (Mahendragarh), former party president Ganeshi Lal (Sirsa), former president Atam Prakash Manchanda (Kaithal), general secretary Vir Kumar Yadav (Hisar), general secretary Ghansham Dass (Yamunanagar), MLA Ghanshyam Dass Saraf (Bhiwani), media adviser Rajiv Jain (Sonepat), former minister Shashi Pal Mehta (Karnal), former MP Ram Chander Bainda and general secretary Dipak Mangla (Palwal), former MP Sudha Yadav and former minister Rao Narbir Singh (Gurgaon), former MLA Kanwarpal Singh (Kurukshetra) and vice-president Rozi Malik in Panchkula. Faridabad: The HJC-BJP combine is garnering support for the June 22 agitation. CM’s media adviser quits, may join TMC
Chandigarh, June 20 Sunder Pal was appointed his media adviser by Bhupinder Singh Hooda immediately after taking over as Chief Minister in March, 2005. Of late, relations between the two had not been smooth. Sources close to Sunder Pal claim that he was feeling suffocated by “bureaucratic dominance” in the system. However, there are reports that he will join the Trinmool Congress (TMC), the north zone chapter of which was launched on June 14 with a Chandigarh-based industrial tycoon KD Singh as its in charge. Two former media coordinators of Hooda, Dalip Chawla, alias Bittu Chawla, and Jaipal Singh Mann, have already joined the TMC. KD Singh has appointed Bittu Chawla convener of the Haryana unit of the party. |
Water scarcity in Sirsa
Sirsa, June 20 Abhay Singh Chautala, INLD MLA from Ellenabad, said today that if the drinking water problem was not solved within 15 days, women activists of the party would block all roads here and not allow any traffic to move until the problem was solved. The problem was acute in some wards of the town and certain villages of Sirsa. Villagers have expressed their anger by locking waterworks at certain places in the recent days. The INLD leader alleged that Sirsa district was facing a power and drinking water crisis but the government had done little to improve the situation. “After coming to power, Hooda had assured to make Haryana power-sufficient in two years. But instead the entire state is facing power cuts today,” Abhay Singh alleged, adding that while people were facing scarcity of drinking water, the Chief Minister was supplying water to Delhi. Chautala came down heavily on Gopal Kanda, local MLA and a Cabinet minister, alleging that the latter had been hindering the functioning of the Sirsa Municipal Council only because its president owed allegiance to the INLD. “A proposal for making 75 streets of Sirsa ‘pucca’ was duly passed by the council and sent to the DC for approval but the file has been awaiting his attention as the minister does not want the work to be done,” alleged Abhay Singh
