The UT Administration is all set to impose house tax, though members of the house tax assessment committee of the municipal corporation (MC) have recently rejected the proposal on the imposition of house tax and the enhancement of commercial tax.

Even as the Haryana government had decided to go ahead with imposing house tax from the April 1, 2010, the house owners in the district are likely to get 50 per cent relief as the corporation is going to charge the tax over the covered area.

BJP councillors succumbed to the allurement of free parking passes and took a U-turn today to table a fresh policy for issuance of free parking passes in the next House meeting for approval of the authorities. The BJP councillors who were vocal on the recovery of financial loss of Rs 2.84 crore just two weeks ago agreed to take up this issue in the next meeting.

Rise in crime keeps policemen on toes
Chandigarh, June 15
Rising thefts, burglaries and vehicle lifting has forced top policemen of Chandigarh to come on road for night patrolling. The sudden spurt of theft incidents, especially vehicle lifting, has moved officials, including Inspector General (IG), SPs and seven DSPs, along with 22 inspectors, out of their houses during night. Interestingly, the city so far has witnessed more than 45 theft incidents this month.

Youth found dead

A body of youth was recovered from Bhakda canal near Ismailpur village close to Ambala City this morning. The deceased was identified as Pradeep, a resident of village Bhurewala. According to information, Pradeep had gone to village Gangkheri to meet some of his relatives a few days ago and he had been missing since then.

2 juveniles held in vehicle-theft cases

A team of the special technical operation cell of PCR recovered nine motorcycles from the possession of two juveniles, both residents of Hallo Majra, and Basant Kumar, a resident of same area. The juveniles used to steal motorcycles for joyride and later abandon them.
