Faculty development programme concludes
Fatehgarh Sahib, June 15 This program was mainly conducted to give latest technology know-how to the computers faculty. During the program, experts including Dr Lakhwinder Kaur and Dr Vishal Goyal from Punjabi University, Patiala, Dr Kulbir Singh from Thapar University, Patiala, and Dr A P Singh from Sant Longowal College shared their expertise with the participants. College Principal Dr MS Grewal expressed satisfaction over the workshop and said that such programs help in updating the knowledge of the faculty and they can further share it with the students. |

Youth found dead
Ambala, June 15 The police suspects that he might have drowned in the canal while taking bath. The relatives of the deceased alleged foul play in this matter and demanded inquiry into it. The police sent the body to civil hospital for postmortem. The exact cause of the death would be conformed the after the postmortem examination report, said the police. |

Painter found dead
Fatehgarh Sahib, June 15 The deceased was identified as Amarjit Singh resident of Khamano. The police sources informed that Amarjit was working as a painter. He was painting the electric poles near the FCI godowns. Due to intense heat he fell from the pole in the near by drain, said the police. He remained drowned in the sullage water and some passer by informed the police that about the incident. His body was handed over to his parents
after the postmortem examination. On the complaint of Darbara Singh, father of the deceased, a case was registered under Section 174 of the CrPC. |

Heavy vehicles pose serious threat
Kalka, June 15 The residents of Kalka and Pinjore alleged the passing of these heavy vehicles, through Kalka and Pinjore main bazaar causing traffic hazard and was a serious threat to accidents specially, to pedestrians. The stretch of National Highway (Pinjore-Shimla highway) from Kali Mata temple to Parwanoo barrier was accident prone, which has claimed many lives, due to these heavy vehicles. The narrow stretch in Pinjore, opposite Dharamandal Dropadi Kund, is also an accident-prone area, which causes traffic disruption. This stretch has also claimed many lives of pedestrians. The residents have urged the police to make a check on the entry of such heavy vehicles through main bazaars of Kalka and Pinjore. They said that these vehicles should strictly be diverted to newly constructed Pinjore-Parwanoo bypass. |
Woman alleges molestation
Mohali, June 15 Sriya Rajpoot, who had come for the shooting of a Punjabi song, told the police that she along with her two colleagues was returning to their hotel in Mohali village when three employees of a liquor vend allegedly caught hold of her arm. When her colleagues objected they were manhandled by the alleged accused, she added. The police has registered a case against the three vend employees under Sections 341, 354, 506 and 34 of the IPC in this regard. |

2 juveniles held in vehicle-theft cases
Chandigarh, June 15 DSP (PCR) Roshan Lal said they had a tip-off of juveniles involved in vehicle thefts on which two teams led by Inspector Ranjit Singh Dhillon and SHO, Mani Majra police station, Rajesh Shukla arrested the juveniles on June 14 and recovered four motorcycles, which were stolen from Mani Majra area. The DSP further said the juveniles were arrested with two stolen motorcycles during investigation and two more stolen motorcycles were also recovered from different parts of the city. They were fond of riding two-wheelers and used to steal them for the same and after riding them for a few days, abandon them in different parts of the city, the DSP said. The police stated that on the information provided by the juveniles, accused Basant Kumar was arrested while riding a stolen motorcycle. During the interrogation, Basant revealed information about four more stolen motorcycles, which were recovered from various parts of the city. A case has been registered. |

3 youths injured in clash
Dera Bassi, June 15 As per information from the police, the clash occurred when the marriage party of bridegroom Gurminder Singh of Bhankarpur was going on and some youths of the same village clashed with friends of bridegroom and used sharp edge weapons in the clash. The injured were the friends of bridegroom and were admitted to the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh. The police has registered a case regarding this clash against seven persons under Sections 307, 324, 323, 341, 148 and 149 of the IPC. Injured were identified as Gurvinder Singh, Randeep Singh and Sahnawaz. |

Gold chain snatched in Sector 37
Chandigarh, June 15 Vimla Devi, a resident of the sector, stated that two unknown occupants of a scooter snatched her gold chain near the Sector 36/37 dividing road and fled from the spot. A case under Sections 356 and 379 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 36 police station and is under investigation. |

Ex-serviceman held
Panchkula, June 15 The arrest was made after the landlady of the house complained to the police and provided a recorded CCTV footage to the police. A case under Sections 452, 427, 323, 506, 34 of the IPC has been registered against the three accused who had made ruckus at the house by not only beat the watchman but also broke one of the CCTV cameras installed near entry gate of the house. The Sector 5 police station incharge while confirming the arrest said that Kohaar would be produced in the court tomorrow after conducting a medical test at the Sector 6 General Hospital tomorrow. Notably, at the time of the incident there were only women in the house and the landlady Meenakshi had made called up a security agency. She said three accused started slamming the main gate with feet and as they saw a CCTV camera installed at the gate they damaged it. |

Woman booked for cheating
Mohali, June 15 According to the police, Pawan Kumar , a resident of Barnala, complained that he had contacted the owner of the company, Mandeep Kaur, after reading an advertisement in a newspaper. He wanted to go to Singapore. The company owner had allegedly taken Rs 2.50 lakh from him on the pretext of sending him to Singapore on a work permit. He was not sent abroad and neither was his money returned to him. The police has registered a case under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC in this regard. |

Chandigarh, June 15 For Nawanshahr, Ramanjot Singh (46) Harpreet singh (60) Balwinder Singh (61) and Mohit Kumar (63) were the main scorers. For Fatehgarh Sahib, Sanjay Kumar picked up 7 for 140 along with Saurav Shahi who took 2 for 60. Fatehgarh Sahib in their second innings lost 3 wickets in 27.1 overs at the close of the match. Maintaining his form skipper Daksh Aggarwal again played a chanceless unbeaten knock of 61 hitting 12 boundaries in his second fifty of the match along with Ramneet Singh (31 not out). For Nawanshahr, Amandeep Singh (1 for 0) and Saranjit (1 for 17) were the main wicket takers. Nawanshahr won the match on the basis of the first innings lead and got 3 point from the match. |
Braving heat, players attend training camps
Patiala, June 15 Braving the hot weather, these players are training for about 8 hours a day in severly adverse weather conditions. Talking to The Tribune, international archer Parveena informed that before the final exams, there has been a gap of about two months in their training schedule. “As a result, there is a decline in the fitness level of players. Now, we have various tournaments lined up soon after the beginning of the new session. Therefore, this one month coaching camp is very important to bring things back on track,” she added. Footballer Suman Poonia said training in hot weather helps them in adapting to the weather. She says that when they go for tournaments in the southern states, the weather is very hot and it becomes easy to perform well if we have the experience of playing in high temperature conditions. “There is no denying the fact that it sometimes becomes really difficult to bear the heat, but we plan our training accordingly. While we do running and other outdoor exercises early morning, we focus on our main games in the evening sessions to avoid very hectic schedule,” added Sarabjeet Kaur. Highlighting the importance of these camps, Director Sports of the university Dr Rajkumar Sharma said that these preparatory camps are very crucial for players. The players are out of form and they hardly have one and two months in their inter-college tournaments. Therefore the players are impressed upon to attend these camps. “We have a fully air-conditioned hostel for these players so that they can rest properly. Moreover, their coaches pay proper attention on their diet according to the weather which helps them get along well,” he added. |
APJ win Hot Weather trophy
Chandigarh, June 15 Winning the toss, Saupins decided to bat first and were bundled out for 98 runs in this stipulated 20 overs. Satyam (31 runs in 36 balls) and Prabhjeet (16 runs off 23 balls) were the main scorers. For APJ Cricket Club, Aashish was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped 3 wickets giving away only 12 runs. Harinder 2 for 13 was the other successful bowler. In reply, APJ achieved the target of 99 runs in 19.5 overs, losing only 5 wickets. Inderpreet (18 runs in 23 balls) and Sehatab (13 runs in 22 balls) were the main run getters. For Saupins, Prithvi was the only bowler who impressed with his bowling figures of 3 wickets for 18 runs. Aayush Sikka was given with man of the series award while Manbir and Prithvi Lohtiya were declared best batsman and best bowler respectively. |
