Leaders join HLP: Krishan Singh Dhiman, a former prominent NGO leader, and Durgi Devi, a BJP activist, have deserted the BJP and joined the Himachal Lokhit Party, led by former MP Maheshwar Singh. They announced their decision at a conference of the Bilaspur Sadar unit of the HLP here, where Maheshwar Singh was the chief guest. They said their supporters had also joined the HLP.

Shop gutted: Property worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed in a devastating fire that engulfed a general store in the main market at Gaggal town, 8 km from here, on Tuesday, the police said here on Wednesday. It said the fire broke out in the Madan Lal Suri’s shop at 9.15 pm, which engulfed the entire shop reducing goods worth lakhs of rupees to ashes.

Youth commits suicide: A 22-year-old youth, who failed in the BSc final-year examination, committed suicide by taking poison, the police said here on Wednesday. Arunesh Kumar, a resident of Diyal Nairanpukhar village in Dehra subdivision in the district, had appeared in the BSc final-year examination in March this year conducted by HP University and was declared unsuccessful. Upset over the result, Arunesh committed suicide.
