Opium smugglers caught in act

The local police has busted a gang, which used to supply opium, “packed” in rolls of dress material to Canada through a courier. A person, who was arrested in this connection, has admitted that they were able to send a huge quantity of opium thrice to Canada from the city.

Man commits suicide
Jagraon, May 19
A youth allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in his in-laws house at Jagraon last night. The deceased has been identified as Sonu, son of Harbans Singh of Jamalpur Colony in Ludhiana. He was married to Gurpreet Kaur of the Agwar Lopon locality in Jagraon.
Health dept forms 18 teams

Tantrik held for molesting girls

A tantrik had to pay the price for being the "saviour" to two young ailing sisters while he tried to molest them. The tantrik was not only beaten up by the area residents but was also handed over to the police. A case under Sections 354/506 IPC has been registered against the accused.
3 held for stealing mobile phones

The Daresi Police has arrested three persons and recovered 15 mobile phones from their possession. As per information, the three accused, Ravi, Gurmit Singh and Navjot Singh, all residents of Daba, stole mobile phones from Kamla Lohtia Sanatan Dharam College on April 27 when students had kept those in their two-wheelers while taking an exam.
