Research project: The Department of Human Resource and Development of the Government of India has granted a prestigious research project of editing dictionary of Indian religions terminology to Guru Nanak Dev University. Under this project, Dr Gurcharanjit Singh of the university would edit the dictionary in Punjabi. The project will be completed in three years.

Mother’s Day celebrated: GD Goenka Public School celebrated Mother’s Day. Children sang songs and danced on the melodies depicting the greatness of mothers. School principal Madhu Gandhi asked the students to get rid of one such habit of theirs which irritates their mothers. Mothers of children studying in Class KG-II were invited to the programme.

Motorcycle stolen: A motorcycle worth Rs 17,000 was stolen from Maur Civil Hospital. A complaint has been lodged by Varinder Kumar. A case under Section 379 of the IPC has been registered in this regard at the Maur police station.

Phagwara
Youth killed in accident: Lovepreet Singh of Munna village was killed on the spot when his motorcycle was hit by a speeding bus near Ravidass Nagar last evening. The bus driver fled after the accident, the police said.

Man ends life: One Rajinder Singh reportedly committed suicide by jumping before a Pathankot-bound moving train near local Khaira Road rail crossing last night. The GRP has registered a case and sent the body to the Civil Hospital for the post-mortem examination. Deep mental stress was said to be the cause of the suicide, the GRP said.

Two found dead: Two persons were found dead in Phagwara in the past 48 hours. A decomposed body of Charanjit Singh of Apra village was found from a village well last night. He was missing for the past one month, the police said. The body was handed over to the family members after the post-mortem examination in the Civil Hospital. One unidentified man was found dead near the local railway station today. Though the exact cause of the death is not known, the railway police officials said the death might have been caused due to heat stroke.

Karnal
Road blocked: Residents of Shiv Colony today blocked the Karnal-Kaithal road in protest against police failure to trace Pradeep (17) missing since May 9. The residents alleged that the police had failed to find a single clue in the case. The residents stated that they had suspected the involvement of four persons in the case but the police was yet to initiate action against them.

Car catches fire at petrol station: A major accident was averted in Haldwani on Monday when a car standing at a petrol station for refueling caught fire. The incident took place on the Rampur road. Petrol station employees managed to push the car away from the pump onto the main road and doused the fire. Fire brigade personnel also reached the spot.

Boy falls into gorge, dies: A 12-year-old boy was killed when he fell into a gorge in the Tanakpur area of Champawat district on Monday. The incident took place when Manoj Kumar of Duyuriyakala village, Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, was returning home after visiting Poornagiri Dham. Police investigations are on in the matter.

One falls from hillside, dies: One person was killed while another was injured when they fell from a hillside in the Munsiyari area of Pithoragarh district. Vinod Kumar (32)and Ishwar Singh (26), both of Dhilam village, had gone in search of yarsa gambu, locally known as keedajadi. They slipped while climbing the hill and fell down. While Vinod Kumar died on the spot, Ishwar Singh sustained serious injuries.

‘Remove material from roads’: The Nainital administration has ordered strict action against those dumping construction material on the roads. At a meeting held on Monday, District Magistrate Nidhi Mani Tripathi stated that the construction material be removed from the roads at the earliest. She ordered PWD officials to fill up potholes once this material is removed.

Suicide attempt by man: The Jal police, Nainital, on Tuesday saved a man while he was attempting suicide by jumping into Naini Lake near the Pashan Devi temple. Anil Joshi (35) is suffering from depression. Police personnel saw him jumping into the lake and rushed to the spot. A diver managed to save him.
