A young girl who loved to look at the mirror with a dream to be on stage wearing a sachet around her shoulder and the sparkling tiara on her head since her childhood…is the Cinderella story of Prachi Mishra, Femina Miss India Earth 2012. She was in Chandigarh on Monday for the launch of Diet Mantra Clinic, powered by celebrity nutritionist Namita Jain, at Sector-9. We catch up.

Crowning glory

As a young girl, I was fascinated with beauty pageants. I always dreamt of being amongst the three titles of Miss India and here I am. Basically, I belong to UP and my dad is in the judiciary department. I did B.Tech and then MBA from Symbiosis, Pune, and was working with Standard Chartered Bank in Delhi. It’s just then that I decided to participate in the Miss UP contest and won the titles of Miss Congeniality, Most Beautiful Smile and first runner-up. And within three months, I was in Mumbai competing for the Miss India title.

Diet mantra

During the Miss India pageant, all the contestants followed a proper diet and a well-set routine. But trust me, your diet changes when you are back in your day-to-day life. As of now, I don’t follow a strict diet chart but whenever I eat something fattening, I try to balance it in the days to come because a bit of fat is essential for our bodies.

Definition of beauty

For me beauty is not only about physical appearance, it’s also about the inner self of a person. During the pageant all the judges not only saw the appearances but also how we conversed, how we reacted to various things, our intellectual faculties and much more.

Secret behind success

Throughout the pageant I spoke in Hindi and that was my USP. So to reach the top, one should know one’s strengths and weaknesses. Be confident in whatever you say and do. And just be yourself! I’m a born feminist and will surely like to prove to the world that women are not only behind every man’s success; but also are a success story themselves.

A set target

As I’m crowned the Miss India Earth, my focus will be to work dedicatedly for environmental awareness. For instance, I’m actively participating in the ‘Ganga Bachao Andolan’. I’m also training myself for the international pageant to be held at Vietnam in October this year. And an entry to Bollywood is surely in my to-do-list, where I want to act with all the big stars.

All about Chandigarh

Since Miss India, Vanya Mishra is from Chandigarh so Prachi had heard a lot about the city. “I’m just here for a day but I really wanted to go for a shop at Sector-17,” says Prachi. During the pageant, everybody used to ask whether Vanya and Prachi are sisters! Says Prachi, “She is just like a little one to me.”

Diet, the right way

We wonder whether expert advice is important for losing weight. Says Prachi, “Nowadays almost everyone is under pressure to lose the extra pounds, but one should take guidance from an expert for sure.” In the whole madness of slimming down, one goes in for crash diets and vigorous workouts, which reduce the immunity levels. “One should not forget that work-out is a must, but along with a balanced diet,” adds Prachi.

THE INNER VOICE
Actor Raza Murad feels his baritone voice has overshadowed his acting talent
Jasmine Singh

Raza Murad Photo: Nitin Mittal It is a strange paradox that actor Raza Murad has been living with. While on one hand students at FTII, Pune, admire his baritone voice, Raza can’t help sharing what the voice has done to him. He laughs; a throaty laughter that makes everyone turn around. “My voice has overshadowed my talent. It is my voice that people talk about and sometimes forget about my work,” he shrugs his shoulders like a kid who doesn’t know what else to say.

In Chandigarh to attend a private function, Raza Murad is never short of words, whether it is about his in-hand projects, golden yesteryears or the instinct to survive in the ‘so-much-has-changed’ cinema. We leave it to Raza Murad to take up whatever topic he wants to talk about.

“I want to tell you that I like coming to the city, especially the sectors 14 and 17. It is lovely place,” says Raza, getting on to present-day cinema and what it leaves for actors like him. “I am a trained, traditional, actor, who has delivered various roles over the years. Today, the new-age directors have made Indian cinema realistic and believable, but they still have certain doubt in casting old actors. I am fine with it; I still have the zest to go on.”

His words are not only filling the spaces in the interview or adding length to the feature, they are soaked in reality — the reality of being the most sought after villain once and now! “Villains, during our times, had a definite role; the actors were not very forthcoming to risk their image by playing a bad boy. Actors these days are open to grey roles. Amitabh Bachchan, Kajol, Akashy Kumar have all played grey roles, which is good thing. Times have changed and so has cinema; audiences have accepted that a bad man can also be good and any good person can have a grey side,” says the actor, who is currently doing various television shows. “Television is the new cinema, it makes stars and they want to be seen in it. When it comes to me taking to TV, I am an actor so I would do any role that tickles my creative vein,” adds Raza Murad looking out of the window. “This city is so beautiful,” he smiles.

Punjabi at heart
Music director Ssameer turns singer with his debut Punjabi album Saiyyaan
Manpriya Singh

Speaking out: Ssameer With half-a-dozen B-town title tracks to his credit, why would anybody risk debuting in the fiercely competitive Punjabi music industry? “It’s sheer love for the language.” Having said that, music director Ssameer decided to turn singer with Punjabi album Saiyyaan. He reasons, “Music itself is something you do out of love and not because a certain market is flooded with singers.”

In Chandigarh to promote his latest offering, the Delhi-based singer is quite sure and secure of its success. “It’s a very different album, quite apart from the rest of the Punjabi albums. There is lots of rock, hip-hop element with an overall international feel.” He adds, “But still the essence of the language has been kept alive. It has a strong Punjabi flavour.” If that manages to confuse everybody else too…think seven contemporary songs, fusion of rock with traditional Punjabi folk! “The last album and song that had some similar elements was probably Bombay Rockers song Ari Ari.” The duo also happens to be among his favourites.

“Apart from Bombay Rockers I also admire Honey Singh; his sound is very International. But we have not incorporated anything because this album has been in progress much before it.”

There’s a story behind this too. “I was working as a music producer and director with Manpreet, who happens to be the son of Shamsher Mehndi. I just thought why I couldn’t come up with an album of my own.” Among the featuring artistes are the well-known rappers picked up from North region’s club circuit.

Now for the half-a-dozen Hindi tracks, there’s one for Sarhad paar, The silent sherpa, Hum phir milein na milein, Gandhi to Hitler, I don’t love you, Life ki toh lag gayi. Also sitting pretty in the resume are countless commercials, radio jingles and a montage!

My first solo album was as a music director for this album called Halka. It’s been a long way and it’s been a hard-earned route of a guitarist shuttling between different bands to a music director to a singer. As of now, “I am just concentrating on the work at hand. We’ve shot a video for Saiyyaan in Jaisalmer.” He adds, “I just want to compose songs for myself.” We leave the lover with his passion, while wishing him well!

Bringing Manto alive
Manto is as relevant today as when he wrote, says eminent Punjabi theatre writer-director Kewal Dhaliwal, who brought his play Ik See Manto, on the invitation of Manto Foundation, to Chandigarh
Mona

Kewal Dhaliwal Kewal Dhaliwal, well-known playwright from the region, is presently steeped in Manto’s writing and spirit. In Chandigarh on Monday with his latest play Ik See Manto, he shares the incredible journey that this play has been with us.

Kewal has designed the play very interestingly in the format of his three daughters questioning Manto as well as society. His ‘controversial’ stories and the controversies they generated become part of the narrative. Black and white remain the only colours on stage, with the exception of red that signifies Partition, which Manto has written considerably about.

“It has been immensely challenging to bring Manto alive on stage,” says Kewal Dhaliwal, who read all his 230 stories over and over again, and also innumerable articles as well as letters in Hindi, Punjabi and English in the process.

The sensitive portrayal of woman and the pain of Partition have been very well captured by Manto. From Khol Do to Toba Tek Singh all become part of his canvas. “Someone who has written on such sensitive issues had to go insane, but only a genius like Manto could bring out a ‘Toba Tek Singh’ from the asylum,” exclaims Kewal.

Not only this writer’s works, his life also finds mention in the play. “Manto considered himself only a common man; he didn’t make a big deal about writing and rather played it down by calling it his regular work, just as his wife cooked and children played,” he adds.

Manto is what this theatre director is working on next as well. The ten-day theatre festival organised by him later this year will have plays by Indian and Pakistani playwrights. “I have talked to Manto’s daughters. They really are keen on coming to Amritsar, cross the very lanes their Abbu played in and I am hoping they will be able to attend this festival,” says Kewal.

Having given more than three decades to theatre, he has seen changes and that too positive ones. “Now directors are not just picking up works but going creative and experimental, which is welcome.”

However, the economics of theatre hasn’t changed over all these years. “Theatre actors and directors still have to struggle to make a living. Contribution from the government is almost zero,” says Kewal, but that doesn’t dampen the spirit of this man, who has solely dedicated his life to theatre. “I don’t see much of a change in the coming times, but I believe in serving theatre for the gains from it are intangible,” he avers.

Storm in a tea cup!
Jigyasa Kapoor Chimra

When the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, suggested that that he will take up the issue of declaring tea as India’s national drink with the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, most tea lovers were ecstatic. But on the other hand, coffee-drinkers were not a happy lot. “It’s not fair as everyone is not fond of tea, some like the sweet-bitter taste of coffee,” says Ridhima Arora, a boutique owner from Mohali.

Dairy giant Amul jumped right into the controversy seeking that milk should be made the national drink. And then again we had coffee lovers put their perspective in place with indiacoffee.org stating that consumption of coffee in the country has been growing at a steady pace and the per capita consumption of coffee is 75 gms.

“I love my morning cup of tea but I don’t understand this concept of having a national drink. It is just tea, some people drink it, some people don’t,” says Anubhav Sood, marine engineer, from Sector 28. Well, if all goes by Ahluwalia’s suggestion then the drink will be accorded a national drink status by April 17 next year to coincide with the 212th birth anniversary of the first Assamese tea planter and sepoy mutiny leader Maniram Dewan. To this Varun Bhardwaj, an employee of a telecom company in Mohali, says, “How does it even matter? Do we need to accord a national status to something as humble as tea? It is a personal choice; things like tea and coffee are not worth pulling into debates. I guess it’s just a gimmick to boost tea sales.” Says Dilpreet Dang, a lecturer, “It’s just another political trick. It is to symbolise the idea of one unified culture.”

Par Excellence
Placing the club on its sole
Jesse Grewal

To complete the set up we have to get the right distance between the feet and the ball. The correct position would be when the sole of the club rests squarely on the ground. This would set the correct angles in the posture – a bend from the hips and a flex from the knees. There would be an angle or cupped position in the wrists (picture 1). If we bend too much from the hips the angle in the wrists would increase and the toe of the club would be well above the ground (picture 2).

(Grewal has coached several national champions and professionals apart from being coach of the Indian golf team for the Eisenhower Cup (World Cup) in 2008
(Grewal has coached several national champions and professionals apart from being coach of the Indian golf team for the Eisenhower Cup (World Cup) in 2008. He is currently the Director of National Golf Academy of India and CGA Hero Honda Golf Academy. If you have any queries get in touch with him at parexcellence@tribunemail.com)

If the ball is hit with the club in this position it would tend to go left (for right handed golfers). If there is no angle in the wrists, the arms and club would look as if they are in a straight line and the heel of the club would be slightly off the ground (picture 3). If the ball is hit with the club in this position it would tend to go right.

A lot of good golfers take their posture and shuffle their feet to help them move in to the right position or distance from the ball. This could be done by finding the correct posture a little further away from the ball and then dropping the arms to place the club on the ground and then moving towards the ball with your feet. Some place the club head behind the ball and then set their posture.

When we swing a club, the shaft of the club tends to bend backwards or lag and also tends to bend downwards which causes the toe of the club to dig in to the ground. This is called the toe down effect.

The softer the shaft is the more would be the toe down effect. To compensate for this the toe of the club could be placed slightly up at address so that at impact it would be square.

Standard golf clubs have been generally made for golfers who are approximately 5’ 10” tall. Golfers who are shorter need flatter clubs and golfers who are taller need upright clubs. If the clubs are not fitted to your height it would be difficult to set the club correctly on its sole and maintain the correct posture.

A still from Dangerous Ishhq
A still from Dangerous Ishhq

Dangerous Ishhq, the movie which has got average ratings, despite Karisma Kapoor’s comeback, does catch ones attention at least once with its track Tu Hi Rab Tu Hi Dua. The quintessential king of romantic melodies, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, is joined in by Tulsi Kumar. The lyrics of the track are complemented with the sound of the piano. Yet, once again Rahat’s magical voice acts like a lucky charm to the track.

Addictive tune

The song is soft, beautiful and is very easy on the ears. Listen to it once and you will start humming it. The tune is also very simple yet addictive.

Drishti Sethi, housewife

Rahat all the way

The lyrics of the song are very meaningful but a solo by Rahat would have worked even better. I’m a huge fan of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s music and this track is an add-on to his amazing collection.

Ritu Sharma, tutor at a private institute

Good combo

As the track picks up with its sweet piano tune, the impact is made deeper by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice. The touch of simplicity is added by Tulsi Kumar’s vocals.

HEART TALK
Empty-nest syndrome
Parvesh Rana

I am a 31-year-old woman. My son has shifted to a boarding school. I am very attached to him and now that he has left, I don’t know how to cope up with the emptiness. What should I do?

— Monika, Chandigarh

Kids have to eventually find their own way. You should be happy about it. Try to engage in some kind of activity, something that you have been wanting to do for long. And you can always meet your son whenever you want.

I am a 34-year-old married man with two kids. Because of my travelling job, I don’t get to spend much time with them.

I wonder whether I will be able to ever become a friend to them?

— Jasbir, Patiala

Most parents these days face the same problem, especially those who travel continuously. I suggest whenever you get time off, spend with your kids. Keep connected to them either through emails or phone calls. Make sure you give them this feeling that they have a friend in you always.

Master Chef
Lay out the salad!
Kandla Nijhowne

We grabbed our first mangoes of the season when they had barely hit the fruit-market, eager and drooling to savour our favourite fruit. Alas....the first bite was disappointing! The bad news—the mangoes were not sweet. The worse news—I had so many of them on my table! We often forget thatmangoes are versatile beyond mango shakes and chutneys apart from being devoured as they are. They make an excellent salad when combined with the right ingredients.

Method

Peel and cut mango and papaya (if using) into thin fingers. Similarly, cut bell pepper and carrots in even sized batons. Slice onion thinly and separate out the slivers. Tear up the mint leaves into small bits, saving a few for the garnish. In a cup, mix together the salt, pepper, ginger, honey, sesame oil and lemon juice. Toss the fruit and veggies together, then pour the dressing over it. The amount of sweetening needed will depend on how tart the mango is. Check and adjust seasoning, then scatter the nuts over the dish. Chill for 5-10 minutes. This allows the flavours to mingle.

(Nijhowne is a culinary expert)

Thai-style mango salad

  • 1 medium, firm mango
  • 200 gm raw papaya (optional)
  • ½ a red bell pepper
  • ¼ onion
  • 1 carrot, scraped
  • ½ inch piece of ginger, scraped and grated
  • 1 tbsp crushed peanuts or cashews
  • 7-8 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 sprig cilantro (dhaniya)
  • Salt, pepper and lemon juice to taste
  • 1 tbsp honey or powdered sugar to sweeten
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION

Street smart: Akshay Kumar
Street smart: Akshay Kumar

Actor Akshay Kumar, who is returning to his signature action genre after a gap of almost seven years with Rowdy Rathore, is worried and stressed out. “After a long time I am doing an action film. Now as Rowdy Rathore is releasing (in June), I am like worried...stressed out. And that is there with every film,” he said at a promotional event of the film.

Akshay made entry into Bollywood as an action hero with films like Waqt Humara Hai (1993), Mohara (1994), Suhag (1994) and Elaan (1994). He later did action and comedy films in Khiladi series - Khiladi (1992), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1993), Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995), Khiladiyo Ka Khiladi (1996), Mr and Mrs Khiladi (1997), International Khiladi (1999) and Khiladi 420 (2000).

With Prabhu Deva’s directorial venture Rowdy Rathore, Akshay is returning to his leitmotif, action.

When asked what Rowdy means to him, Akshay says, “Rowdy means someone who is mastikhor, badmash...but at the same time has a clean heart. I have been rowdy during my college days. There is rowdiness in everyone be it a man or a woman.” As the film is an action-packed entertainment, leading lady of the film Sonakshi Sinha, who was also present at the event, quipped, “lifting me up was a big stunt for Akshay”.

Replying to the pun, Akshay said, “lifting Sonakshi was not that big a stunt as I have lifted several heavy people including wrestler Undertaker”.

At the promotional event of Rowdy Rathore, Akshay, along with Sonakshi and director Prabhu Deva, flagged off an autorickshaw race at Lokhandwala in suburban Andheri.

Also, in a unique way of promoting the film, the makers held a nationwide contest to hunt for the local rowdies through a radio channel. The selected contestants were also present on the occasion. Rowdy Rathore produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is slated for June 1 release. — PTI

Sticking around: Jacqueline Fernandes
Sticking around: Jacqueline Fernandes

Jacqueline made her acting debut in the 2009 fantasy movie Aladin, opposite Amitabh Bachchan and Ritesh Deshmukh. But her performance went unnoticed. She delivered her first commercial hit with Mahesh Bhatt’s Murder 2. “I do feel that I have been around for quite a while.

My journey too hasn’t been all that quick though I am sure these films will take me a long way. It just warms my heart that now in Housefull 2 I see myself playing the kind of role which I had envisioned for myself.

“It is fabulous that my mom and dad are watching me in such quintessential commercial cinema. Now that’s what the core of Bollywood movies is all about,” she said.

Jacqueline would be next seen in Abbas Mustan’s Race 2 in a completely new avatar. “It is time to move on to Race 2. I would be seen in an altogether different avatar there because Abbas Mustan have their own way of presenting their girls,” she said. — PTI

50 million and counting ...

Colombian pop star Shakira set a new record on social networks this week as the number of her fans on Facebook zoomed to 50 million. The artist posted a photo recently on her Facebook profile in which she is seen wearing a party hat, holding a balloon in one hand and a poster in the other that reads “50 million!”

“Wow 50 million on Facebook. That’s incredible. Many thanks for your love. A big kiss,” she wrote. Big ears, bigger fears!

Man in Black: Will Smith with wife Jade Smith
Man in Black: Will Smith with wife Jade Smith

Hollywood actor Will Smith, whose first 3D venture Men In Black 3 is all set to hit theatres, says he worried over his large ears taking over the film. Smith, 43, who reprises his role as Agent J in the forthcoming sequel, said that his biggest fear was that his already large features would be the main focal point of each scene, reported a website.

“This is my first time making a movie in 3D, I was just happy my ears didn’t take over the whole frame. That was my big concern, that in 3D these things would be exponential!” he said.

Smith and his co-stars Josh Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones used a lot of ad-libbing when they worked together, and the actor said they spent time preparing what they wanted to say.

“We do spend a lot of time before we get on the set coming up with things. When we’re working a scene we will ad-lib the three or four days before we’re actually in a scene. Coming up with things, trying things, and we’ll have four or five different options of things we want to try.” — PTI

Son over career

Popstar Dannii Minogue has vowed to put her son Ethan ahead of her career. The 40-year-old TV talent judge, who split with former rugby player Kris Smith last month, said that she wants to spend time with her boy who is about to turn two, reported a publication online.

“I guess my world is about making time for being a mum and not missing out on special time with Ethan. Every week there are new things. He is changing every day. “The music takes you on a different trip. You can’t do everything. You choose a couple of important things and the rest is mum time,” she said. Emma Stone likes her flame-haired look

Actress Emma Stone says she likes her flame-haired look and wants to be a redhead in every movie. The 22-year-old, who has coloured her hair red for her upcoming movie Gangster Squad, said she accepts that she can’t keep this look forever if she wants to get ahead in Hollywood, reported a website.

“I’m actually a natural blonde. I’m blonde at the roots but red at heart. I love being a redhead. My mom is a redhead. I just really prefer the red and that’s the way I would stay if I could,” Stone said.

The actress also talked about her addiction to read about herself in newspapers and magazines.

“I’m not one of these people that must disassociate themselves from it or has to cut it off. Rather I get addicted to it, so I have to do it in moderation! I get addicted to the internet. I have a twitter account. I look at it a lot but I don’t tweet. I’d be terrified that I’d say something and never be able to live it down.” — PTI

Depp, 48, felt uneasy upon looking at the man, but happily obliged to the request of autograph of the look-alike Ken Schimizu as he paved his way to meet the star among the legion of fans, reported a publication online.

The uncanny resemblance to the Alice in Wonderland star was evident as Schmizu emulated the rock and roll style of the actor.

Depp was seen chatting with his fans and posed for pictures as he got off his plane at the Narita international airport in Narita, Tokyo. Dark Shadows was premiered that night in the city’s Roppongi Hills Arena. — PTI

Gender no bar

Pop diva Mariah Carey was pictured partying at a gay club in West Hollywood recently. The 42-year-old singer, who raises twins with husband Nick Cannon, was accompanied by a friend to the club where she was seen enjoying her time, reported a magazine.

“There was no formal announcement that she arrived at the club, but she and her friend B Scott held court at one of the main dance floor tables — so she was very visible. “She was very nice and gracious. But a security guard had to stay by her booth to control her fans,” a source said. Carey stuck around until 2 am and took some shots of Beluga vodka. — PTI

Still going strong

Positive change: Sidharth Shukla
Positive change: Sidharth Shukla

Sidharth Shukla who has been seen in shows like Jaane Pehchane Se Ajnabi and Luv U Zindagi now will be a part of Colors' Balika Vadhu. On the 1000th episode of the showm he will bring a new change in Anandi's life.

Tell us about the role?

I am very delighted to be a part of Balika Vadhu, it is the number one show on television and everyone across my family and friends follow it religiously. The show from the start has maintained an interesting storyline and introduced wonderful characters that anyone would jump at to be part of. I play the role of a collector, Shiv. I can relate to this character in many ways - he is a man of principles and honest. I have lived by these values through my life and career.

What do you like most about the character?

I like the fact that he is an honest, impatient, righteous guy who is approachable yet has an attitude. He is into his job totally and as he knows his job he is confident and can handle any situation.

Do you think people will accept a new guy in their Anandi's life?

Balika Vadhu has shown the ills of child marriage, so while Jagya has gone ahead and remarried, it would be chauvinist to expect Anandi to stay at home and not have a life of her own. If she likes another guy, she should move on. She is a young girl who is doing well in life and is protective of family -women like her deserve more. I hope people accept the fact that she would want a husband too.

How important is this role for your career?

No doubt being in a iconic show like Balika is a big deal. The role is excellent and has added pressure for me as it is already a success. I join the team post 1000 episodes. I hope to keep up the good work and take it to higher success.

What do you think of the show?

Directors often change now days, but this is one show that has the same director since its inception. Therefore you see a show like Balika Vadhu running so strong for 1000 episodes and with the same clarity and sincerity in thought.

A closed chapter

Zee TV’s Choti Bahu is all set to say goodbye as the channel has decided to pull the plug on it and its last shooting date is May 17. Our sources have informed that the makers approached the channel with the suggestion of shifting it to the evening slot, but received a negative response. Then again, they sent a suggestion asking to make Choti Bahu a bi-weekly. The channel resented to give a nod the second time round as well. As a result, the production house officially announced to the cast and crew that the show will go off air. It’s last airing date will be May 18.

The show will be replaced by Shakuntalam Telefilms’ show Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke.

THE YEAR AHEAD
Madan Gupta Spatu

If your birthday is May 15...

Energy wanes even as success seems closer at hand. You will be in the mood to travel and spend money—but you will be sorry if you do. Your extravagant lifestyle could cause tensions at home, so avoid late nights and spending too much on others. You will catch the eye of a special someone, if you move about within your group. If you talk yourself into believing you’ve made a wrong choice or decision, chances are it will go wrong. You’re expecting failure and that means you aren’t likely to put in a lot of effort to make it work. Try changing your outlook and look at the more attractive possibilities. You will find it rather difficult to keep your personal life and your business life separate. This could in turn lead to some frustration concerning you current situation and perhaps even some confusion concerning your priorities.

Focus on definite aims. Ask a Taurean friend for help and support. Employees will be favoured by the stars which recommend being daring and asking for a pay raise or promotion. Students can look forward to a period of progress. Hard work will win you laurels. An opportunity to go overseas for further studies is likely.

Fatigue and personal illness may dampen your spirit and you may need cooperation and assistance. Call upon family members to help. An ideal chance to ‘talk anything out’ may fix an unexpected issue that arises.

A simple act of thoughtful kindness can make a loved one feel a lot better. If you know that an encouraging word from a loved one gives you courage to face the world, and then return the favour every now and again.
