Firemen try to douse flames in the furniture market near Sectors 41 and 42, close to the Chandigarh-Mohali border, on Monday night. Furniture worth approximately Rs 2 crore was gutted in a major fire that broke out in the furniture market on the Mohali-Chandigarh border here at around 10.45 tonight.

2 cops suspended

Two officials of the Sector 14 police station were suspended and sent to the police lines. The officials include SHO Aman Kumar and assistatnt sub inspector Ishwar.

No more low water pressure in city

Residents of the city will now get a relief from the problem of low water pressure as the municipal corporation has decided to resolve the problem there and then after receiving a complaint from any area of the city. This decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the water and sewerage committee chaired by Mukesh Bassi today. It was decided that special teams of the department will monitor those areas from where complaints of low water pressure were received.

City sectors hit by fault in power supply line

A fault in a power supply line from Sectors 28 to 18 led to a power crisis in many sectors of the city today. The fault occurred in the afternoon hours and was only repaired late in the evening. Due to the fault, residents of Sectors 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 faced a tough time for nearly eight hours. Besides, Sector 7, 27, Burail village and Manimajra also witnessed power cuts today.

Remove illegal mobile towers from colonies: HC
Chandigarh, May 14
Mobile towers in residential areas won't ring in inconvenience. A Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today asked the state governments to direct all the municipal councils, corporations and other local bodies to make inoperative the mobile towers functioning from the residential areas without following the norms. A survey report on towers in UT too has been called for.

Six arrested for immoral trafficking
Panchkula, May 14
The local police arrested six persons including a girl in a compromising position at a private hotel in Sector 5 this morning. The accused have been identified as Adarsh Yadav and Pradeep, both residents of Sector 26, Varun, resident of Sector 8, Umersh Kumar, Rsident of Sector 11 and Abishek, a resident of Sector 4. The girl is a resident of Patiala.

The police has arrested a resident of Zirakpur for duping scores of employees of Punjab Mandi Karan Board of lakhs by urging them to invest huge sums with a society for good returns.

Chains snatched
Chandigarh, May 14
Two incidents of chain snatchings were reported in broad daylight today. Poonam Chaubey, a resident of Sector 31-D, reported that two unidentified motorcycle-borne youngsters sped away after snatching her gold chain near house number 3170, Sector 31.
