: An unidentified young boy reportedly committed suicide by jumping before a speeding train near Phillaur Railway Station last night.

Proclaimed offender held: Goraya Police has arrested a proclaimed offender, identified as Sarabjit from Apra village, last night. Sarabjit was wanted in a case of attempt to murder registered against him five years back .

Grenade recovered in Budgam
: The police recovered a hand grenade in Budgam district on Thursday. “A live hand grenade was found lying in the open at Sheikhpora near an automobile workshop,” a police spokesman said. 

Cop found dead: A constable was found dead under suspicious circumstances here on Thursday. Constable Baljeet Singh posted at the Press Enclave area was found dead in the morning, a police spokesman said. A case under Section 174 of the CrPC has been registered. 

Awami darbar: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Hassan Samoon on Thursday conducted an “awami darbar” at Sopore in Baramulla district. The Divisional Commissioner resolved several issues on-the-spot during the darbar, an official said here. Later, Samoon inaugurated a blood donation camp at Agriculture College, Wadura.

Man run over by train in Haldwani: A rickshaw puller was found dead near railway tracks in Haldwani. It is being assumed that the deceased, identified as 40-year Umrao, was run over by a train. A inhabitant of Bhojipura in Uttar Pradesh, he was residing in the Gaujajali area. It is learnt that he had a spat with his wife and had gone on to sleep very close to the railway tracks in an inebriated state. His body was found on Wednesday. Police investigations are on in the matter.

Youth dies in accident: A youth was killed while another injured when the two-wheeler on which they were travelling was hit by a bus on the Haldwani-Rudrapur highway on Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as 25-year Anil Tewari of Malla Gorakhpur. He was on his way to Rudrapur when his two-wheeler was hit from behind by a bus. He was employed at a private dental clinic. His pillion rider sustained major injuries in the accident.

Buiding gutted in Dwarahat: A two-storey residential structure was gutted in the Dwarahat area of Almora district. The incident took place in Dairi village on Wednesday. The reason that led to the outbreak of fire is yet to be ascertained. Those living in the building claim that all articles that were kept in the house were reduced to cinders. The losses are being evaluated. The building was owned by Rajendra Tewari. There was no loss of life in the incident.

Man killed in bike collision: One person was killed while his pillion was injured when the motorcycle on which they were travelling collided with a motorcycle coming from the other direction. The incident took place in the Jaspur area of Udham Singh Nagar district on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Raghvendra Singh of Nazla Pahari village of Etawah. He was employed as a shift officer in one of the industrial units in Jaspur. He died while being taken to Moradabad for treatment. The accident took place on Bhutpuri Road. The police is on the lookout for the motorcycle that had collided with the one being driven by Singh.

Demand to replace village teacher: Residents of Sauliya Baijina village of the Garud area of Bageshwar district have demanded that the lone teacher posted in village school should be replaced. Accusing the teacher of misconduct, the villagers have stated that the acts of the teacher have led children to dropping out of the school. They have approached the district administration on the issue.
