Demolition drive ‘moves’ MC

The Municipal Corporation (MC) has decided to carry out its demolition drive in parts. The decision was taken after MC officials faced some “resistance” from residents near the Jalandhar bypass, where the civic body had carried out the demolition drive yesterday.

Now, no need to stand in long queues to deposit the provident fund (PF) of employees. From April 1, it has been made mandatory for the employers to deposit the PF online. The service is known as electronic challan-cum-return (ECR).

Sewerage tenders floated for non-MC land

When it comes to doling out freebies to “encroachers”, one should take cue from the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. The otherwise cash-strapped MC floated tenders for laying sewerage on a piece of land which does not even belong to the civic body. The land measuring around 5,500 sq yards was allotted to the District Rifle Association
(DRA) for the construction of a shooting range at Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar here. After the DRA raised the issue with the MC, it stopped the process of laying sewers.
Motivating girl students

To motivate girls toward education, a grant of Rs 4.40 crore was issued under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan for government schools of the state. Each district of Punjab will receive Rs 20 lakh for organising adolescent education camp, exposure visit, martial art training sessions and sports activities.

In fact, the local municipal council had received some complaints from the area residents against the vend being run openly near Vishavkarma Chowk.

Burn unit still non-functional

Patients with burn injuries are being treated along with other patients as the burn unit of Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital is yet to be made functional.
