HSRP fixing work from next month
Chandigarh, April 3
The work of affixing high-security registration plates (HSRPs) on both old and new vehicles will resume by next month as the Chandigarh Administration has finalised the lowest bidder, Real Amazon, to implement the project. The move follows nod from the Central government after the UT sent an amended project for approval.

Government Polyclinic at Sector 26, Panchkula Mini-hospital not operational yet
Panchkula, April 3
The construction of polyclinic at Sector 26, Modern Mini-Hospital, which has been completed about six months ago, is yet to be thrown open for the general public. The 16-bed hospital would be the first one to be opened in sectors across the river Ghaggar. The construction work of the mini-hospital started in January 2009 and the work was to be completed in 18 months.

Restoration centre for heritage items in offing deck
Chandigarh, April 3
The UT Administration has decided to set up a restoration centre to store and repair heritage items of the city in order to preserve those. In a meeting between Central and UT Administration officials in New Delhi today, points regarding preservation of heritage items were discussed and it was decided that a place be identified in Chandigarh where a restoration centre could be set up.

All four victims discharged
Chandigarh, April 3
Jatin, Sahil, Lalit and Amit, the four youths who were referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at Sector 32 here yesterday with serious burn injuries, were discharged after being given medical aid today. When contacted, Amit said all four of them were discharged and asked to come tomorrow for routine check-up. He said Jatin and Lalit were still complaining of blurred vision as there was swelling on their eyes.

A 30-year-old labourer, identified as Babulal, sustained injuries as he fell off a lift at the site for a house under construction at Phase I of the Industrial Area here this evening.

Teachers turn down PU’s offer

Although Panjab University (PU) had approved Guru Nanak College, Ferozepur, as the examination centre at the last moment where over 150 copying cases were made and a flying squad was attacked last year, the fellows, this year, in protest of approving the college as an examination centre have turned down PU’s offer to visit as the flying squad.

Fighting to remain in the UT police for the last seven years, a UT constable has lost the battle in court as the Supreme Court, in a recent order, has dismissed the appeal of the constable, challenging his dismissal.

The special NIA court deferred the hearing for April 17 as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sought more time to produce supplementary challan in the Samjhauta blasts case.

CCA Haryana thrash AG club
Chandigarh, April 3
The cricket team of CCA Haryana defeated AG Haryana Cricket Club by 55 runs in the match of Saupin’s-32 Veteran Cricket Tournament held at Banyan Tree School, Sector 48, here today.
After electing to bat first, the winning side posted a total of 161 runs in the allotted 20 overs after losing six wickets. Giving full support to their team, Sunil Bhel (54) scored the highest in the team’s total. For the bowling side, DS Mehra grabbed two for 26, while his teammate, Rajiv Anand, took two for 31. In reply to their total, the team of AG Haryana Cricket Club bundled out for 106 runs in the 19th over of the match. 

Tennis meet from tomorrow

AKSIPS Tennis Academy will organise AKSIPS Total Tennis Championship at Phase XI, Mohali, from April 5 to 7 here. The tournament will be played in both boys and girls (U-12, U-14 and U-18) categories.

Badminton meet
Sanjeev Kumar Paraplegic player makes to national squad
Chandigarh, April 3
Bringing laurels to the City Beautiful, paraplegic badminton player, Sanjeev Kumar, made it to the national contingent today for representing the country in the 2nd French International Para Badminton Championship to be held at France from April 6 to 9.
Sanjeev is undergoing practice sessions at the Panjab University badminton coaching centre from the past two years. Earlier, he had won two titles in the National Badminton Tournament for Challenged, held at Bangalore from August 12 to 14 last year. He won a gold medal in the singles as well as in the doubles category.
