Man, child feared drowned
Jagraon, March 24
Two persons, including a child, were feared drowned while two others were seriously injured when a scooter and a motorcycle were hit by a speeding car at a bridge on the Sirhind feeder canal near Akhara village, 6 km from Jagraon, late this evening. The fifth person survived with minor injuries.

Four addicts held for engg student’s murder

The four drug addicts, who brutally killed a first-year engineering student Sukhwinder Singh Sunny on his birthday on March 20, have been arrested. The incident has again highlighted the fact how the menace of drugs has infested the area and given rise to crime at Jodhewal and the surrounding areas.

Theft at ADCP’s house; maid flees with Rs 10,000
Ludhiana, March 24
A maid employed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP-II), Satveer Atwal, allegedly fled with Rs 10,000 and an ipad from his residence. The incident has left the police embarrassed. The theft came to light here today when the police booked Sunita and launched an operation to nab her.

Burden on litigants mounts

The cash-starved state government has found a novel way to bail itself out of the financial crisis. It has been nearly a month, but the government has not made available proper denominations of stamp and court stamp papers (court fee) required to be fixed on case files and to seek several case-related documents.

Extra pulmonary TB major concern

TB bacilli can attack any part of human body. But very few people know about this fact. As many as 20 per cent persons in the world suffer from extra pulmonary TB (tuberculosis). It affects other organs of the body. Dr Ashish Chawla, district tuberculosis officer, said while talking to Ludhiana Tribune on the occasion of World TB Day.

Eighteen-year-old Sunil, a resident of Model Town here, has been suffering from sarcoma and is under treatment at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre at Rohini in Delhi since March 12.

About 20 contestants are in the fray for the Sutlej Club elections scheduled for tomorrow and members are being bombarded with messages for support. The most coveted post is that of the general secretary. Sanjeev Dhanda, the present general secretary, claims that since he has “vast” experience and had taken the club to new heights, he should come again to serve members in a better way.

Eventful day at Genesis-2012
Ludhiana, March 24
"GENESIS 2012” was organized at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana, on Thursday. Dr MS Saini, director of the college, inaugurated the annual function. Gurcharan Singh Gill, honorary director, Nankana Sahib Education Trust, was the chief guest.
