Institute organises tech fest
Dera Bassi, March 23 SDM, Dera Bassi, Rajesh Tripathi was the chief guest for the occasion. In the valedictory function, Dr GN Verma, principal SSIET, welcomed the chief guest. Rajesh Tripathi gave away the certificates and awarded prizes to the winners in various competitions. Amit Sharma, Ankush Rana, Ashish Rana, Manoj Kumar, Mayank Rawat, Narendra Singh, from mechanical stream, won the first position for their project ‘Automatic Drilling Machine on a Circular track’. The winning team from the electrical stream comprised of Harsh kumar, Mukesh kumar, Atul kumar, Abhishek Kumar, Harinder Singh, and Neha Sharma, and were awarded for their project ‘Smart traffic light control system’. The first prize from the computer science stream was bagged by the team of Gurjeet Singh, Karamdeep Singh, and Narinder Kumar for their project ‘Huffman Compression Technique’. Chief guest congratulated the winners and praised the efforts of faculty members and student organizers for arranging such a nice event. He also appreciated the Innovative methods used in various Projects designed and displayed by the students of various streams. Prof Avtar Singh , exhorted all the participants and said that winning in the competition is no doubt important but above all lies the spirit to accept the result in cheerful manner. He also said in his speech that participation in such activities helps in boosting the morale and also teaches the lesson of accepting the challenges. |

Over 200 selected in mega job fair
Dera Bassi, March 23 Prominent among the companies which participated in the fair were Godrej, Videocon, JCBL, MSL, Dibbon, HCL, Spanco, Future Edge, Allena automobiles, Intelligence Tech, and Empee Group. 125 students of the Swami Parmanand Group of colleges and 100 students from other colleges were recruited for different posts at handsome packages by the companies. JCBL and MSL conducted a written test and GD round in the campus before shortlisting them for HR and technical rounds. Similarly, Dibbon Group conducted an online test in the campus and have called short listed students for HR round. Inderjeet Bajaj, chairman, Swami Parmanand Group of Colleges, thanked the participating companies and congratulated the selected students, wishing them a bright future. He assured that such placement drives would continue in future. |

He said it could be dangerous for residents living nearby during rainy season. A case has been registered against the coloniser. |

Man killed in accident
Chandigarh, March 23 Dinesh was returning home when a Verna car hit him and sped away. The victim suffered a serious head injury and was declared brought dead at the hospital. He is survived by wife and two children.. A case of causing death due to negligence under Sections 279, 337 and 304 A of the IPC has been registered. Yesterday two hit-and-run accidents had occurred in the city in which two persons were killed. |

SJOBA Rally: suresh, ashwin drive to glory
Chandigarh, March 23 Sunny Sidhu and Rohit Michael came in second with 1:28 minutes while the team of Amrinder Singh Brar and Vijaypal Singh was a shade behind in 1:29 minutes for the third spot. In cars, the fastest was the team of Jasbir Singh Randhawa and Manoj Kumar with 1:30 minutes while the team of Dhirender Kumar and Honey Narula clocked 1:31:42 minutes for the second spot. Jagbir Singh Nirwan and Shivkaran Mokha with 1:31:42 minutes were in the third place. In bikes’ category, Prince Singh was the fastest with 1.31 minutes, second was Mohit Verma with 1.32 minutes, while Sandeep Matharu was third with 1.35 minutes. Gypsies, cars and bikes competing in the Challenge Rally participated in this leg and the drivers zipped around the specially created track, negotiating the hairpin bends and leaving behind a cloud of dust as they exhibited their skills, said Shivneet Singh, president, SJOBA. Singh said that for the Second Leg of the Challenge Rally the teams will be flagged off on March 24 from St Johns School at 7 am and reach Koti Resorts (beyond Shimla) by 4 pm for the night halt. They will be flagged off at 7 am the next day from Koti Resorts and are expected to reach St. Johns School by 3 pm or later the same day, March 25. He further said that the teams competing in the Endurance Trial would flagged off immediately before the Challenge Rally teams on March 24 from St Johns. They will also go to Koti Resorts and return on March 25. For the Challenge Rally, the route on the day one would be Chandigarh-Trilokpur-Morni-Badisher-Thapli-Mallah-Bhojnagar-Ashinikhad-Jhaja-Chail (Lunch)-Chhalanda-Tehra-Koti Village-Koti Resorts. While on day the track would comprise of Koti Resorts-Gumma-Baldeyan-Theog-Tiyali- Kelti-Kamayana-Kiarighat-Kandaghat-Barog (lunch)- Bhojnagar-Chakki Ka Mor and conclude at Chandigarh. |

Abaid 58 in 62 and Chiranpreet 25 in 29 were the main scorers. For Azad academy, Amul 2 for 31and Dhruv 1 for 36 were the main wicket takers. Three Punjab players in India U-19 squad
Mohali, March 23 The PCA spokesperson, Sushil Kapoor, informed that India U-19 team would be participating the Quadrangular series to be played in Australia in April next. All three players were also a part of the quadrangular series earlier played at Vizag between India, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Australia, which was won by India, he added. — TNS |
