Women commit suicide: Kanti Devi, a resident of Rudrapur, allegedly committed suicide following a tiff with her husband Sursh Diwakar. The incident took place at their house in Ghasmandi locality of the town. Her husband also sustained injuries while trying to save her. Kanti died on the spot. In another incident, a physically challenged woman allegedly immolated herself at her residence in Udham Singh Nagar district. Bhawana Bisht took the extreme step after sending her two children for tuition. Her husband is employed with the Army and is based in Delhi. She had lost one foot in an accident eight years ago. It is being assumed that she took the step in a state of depression.
Woman receives bullet injuries:
A resident of Rampura locality, Rudrapur, received bullet injuries when three youths in an inebriated condition allegedly opened fire while celebrating Holi. The victim, Bhagwan Devi, was sitting outside her house when she was hit by two bullets. The miscreants fled after the incident. She is admitted to a hospital in Haldwani. Her mother-in-law, Kamla Devi, has accused Anil, Mahesh and Bunty of the same locality of having shot at her. Two killed in mishaps:
Two persons were killed in accidents in Nainital district. Kundan Singh, a resident of Babiyad, was killed when the bus he was travelling in fell into a ditch. The accident took place when the driver was reversing the bus. In another mishap, Deepak Arya (20) was killed while three others were injured when their car fell into a gorge near Kainchi. He was a resident of Kainchi and was returning home from Bhawali. Skirmish between hotel staff, villagers:
A skirmish took place between hotel employees and villagers on the outskirts of Almora on Friday evening. According to information, some hotel employees allegedly passed lewd remarks on women from Khatyadi village, which irked villagers. The villagers alleged that hotel manager Arun Kumar even fired into the air. They snatched the gun from Arun and handed it over to the police. They also damaged the hotel property.
