Former Chief Engineer acquitted

More than 11 years after former UT Chief Engineer KK Jerath was booked in a case of corruption by the UT vigilance cell, the court of additional district and sessions judge Preeti Sahni today acquitted him of all charges in the absence of any strong evidence.

Punjab Infotech cancels allotment of six sites

In a case of major irregularities in the allotment of sites at the Information Technology (IT) Park in Sector 67 here, the state-owned Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation Limited (Infotech) has cancelled the allotment of six large sites that had been allotted in alleged contravention of selection criteria.

It seems that the Mohali Police is ill-equipped to deal with drunk drivers. Only 145 challans were issued in 2011 and only a few in the past two months. There is no regular checking at Zirakpur despite the place being the venue for weddings and social functions.

UICET campaign to help potters

HC rules out equal land in compensation

The police has arrested Feru Ram, a resident of Kajheri from near Raen Basera, Sector 17, last night for consuming liquor at a public place. A case under the Excise Act has been registered at the Sector-17 police station.

3 incidents of snatching reported
Chandigarh, March 3
Snatching incidents are on the rise in the city with three such incidents being reported in the past three days. Anita Sharma of Sector 38 (West) alleged that two unidentified persons snatched away her bag containing ATM and documents from road separating Sectors 52 and 53 last night. A case has been registered.

Immigration firm owner arrested

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the UT Police has arrested Jaswinder Singh, owner of J.A Enterprises, an Immigration firm in Sector 34. He was wanted in a case registered under Sections 188 and 420 of the IPC and the Emigration Act 1983.

Newborn found near Basouli village
Mohali, March 3
A newborn was found abandoned in the fields near Basouli village at Lalru last night. The baby boy was sent to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, by the police. It said at 7.30 pm on Friday, sarpanch Balkar Singh, who was on his way home, heard the cries of the newborn. On seeing the baby, he informed the police about it.

20-year-old commits suicide
Chandigarh, March 3
A 20-year-old girl reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in Sector 56 here today. The deceased, identified as Rajni (Gudiya), was a BA student at Government College of Girls, Sector 42.
