Swindler decamps with Rs 1 lakh jewellery
Ludhiana, March 2
A swindler decamped with jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh from a house in Jodhewal by duping children. This incident took place in the afternoon when Surinder Kaur, wife of Gurnam Singh, a truck driver, had gone to market for purchasing goods.

Taking a strict note of encroachments as well as violations of the PUDA Act on prominent roads, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation is all set to demolish structures that are within 5 meters of the main roads. A meeting in this regard was held yesterday. The Municipal Corporation hopes to start this drive from Monday onwards. It has identified 2,500 such violations in different parts of the city and notices have been served on the violators.

High drama was witnessed at the District Court Complex today when sisters of a dreaded terrorist Jagtar Singh Hawara lodged a complaint before the court saying that the Delhi police was not allowing them to offer home-cooked food to their brother.

Poisonous gas being emitted out of sewage, which has claimed lives of a few sewer men, could now be used to generate electricity. The Sewerage Board is holding talks with the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) for generating electricity out of it.

To save Ludhiana's cycle industry from Chinese products, the local industry is vying hard for the implementation of anti-dumping duty on cycles and cycle parts. Representatives of the industry will now write to the Ministry of Commerce for the implementation of anti-dumping duty, citing reasons and evidences for the same.

Ban on surfing non-educational sites in schools
Complaints of computer teachers surfing indecent websites received
Ludhiana, March 2
The Director-General of School Education (DGSE) has banned opening of social networking and non-educational websites in government schools by computer teachers. Issuing the instructions to the District Education Officers, information communication project coordinators and programme managers, the DGSE has warned computer teachers that they are not supposed to visit the non-educational websites.
