Guilt drives 26-yr-old youth to suicide

Audit report indicts institute for physically challenged
Chandigarh, February 12
Flouting rules, the local Regional Institute for Mentally Handicapped Department has expended about Rs 1.15 crores on the contractual staff, which was engaged by it ‘irregularly’ during 2009-11. The ‘irregularity’ was pointed out in the latest audit and inspection report of the department for the period 2009-11.

Thieves strike at factory for 3rd time
Chandigarh, February 12
Thieves struck at a brass factory in the Industrial Area of Ramdarbar for the third time here yesterday. Earlier, the thieves had broken open the lock of the factory on January 22 and later on January 31. The factory owners had handed over three culprits to the police for their alleged involvement in the theft on February 1. The suspects are still in custody.

UT Admn set to revise heritage inventory
Chandigarh, February 12
A view of the Punjab and Haryana High Court building, which is a part of the heritage of Chandigarh The UT Administration has gone into a mode of revising its inventory for the heritage property being prepared by a special team after taking note of divergent views on identifying as to what comprised city heritage. Questions are being raised about the manner in which the list of inventory, which had started following a communication from the Centre last year, was compiled.

Coming down heavily on HDFC Standard Life Insurance Co Ltd, the Mohali District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the former to pay interest at a rate of 9 per cent per annum for a period of three years on the amount of Rs 10 lakh deposited by a consumer for an insurance policy.

Four vehicles stolen from city in one day
Chandigarh, February 12
As many as four vehicles were stolen from different areas of the city yesterday. In the first case, Rajeev of Mohali reported to the police that some one had stolen his car (CH-01P-3003) from Sector 37 on February 7. A case was registered at the Sector 39 police station.

Three held for gambling
Chandigarh, February 12
The local police has arrested Lokender, a resident of Sector 25, while playing satta and recovered cash Rs 2,400 from his possession. A case under Section 13A-3-67 of the Gambling Act has been registered at the Sector 11 police station.

Two injured in hit-and-run case

Boxer Vijender Singh with budding kick boxers in Chandigarh on Sunday Indian pugilists are set to display a better performance in the coming London Olympics and there is all likelihood that the medal tally in boxing further improves this time. This was stated by Vijender Singh who got the country its fist ever Olympic medal in boxing three years ago at Beijing.

Amandeep and Pooja of Guru Gobind Singh College bagged the first and third prizes respectively in the Carmel Ex Students Association (CESA) Parabolic All Girls Mini Marathon here today.
Around 500 participants turned out from 15 schools and colleges across the Tricity, along with open entries, for the 7.4 km marathon. The participants competed under three categories of sub-junior (14 years and below), junior (15 to 18 years), and senior (19 years and above).
