Police cases:
Leaders of the Brahmin Aarkshan Sangharsh Samiti on Friday condemned the Karnal police for registering cases against about 100 persons, including president of the Brahmin Samaj, who were demanding arrest of the accused in the Anil murder case there on Thursday. Samiti convener RK Sharma and president Chandgi Ram Sharma alleged that the government was quelling the voice of Brahmins.

Faridabad
Student crushed to death:
Umesh (14), a standard VIII student, was crushed to death by a sugarcane-laden tractor at Heerapur village, near here, on Thursday night. The driver was arrested from Atokh village in Palwal. on Friday. The accident occurred when he and his father were waiting on the outskirts of Heerapur for a vehicle to go to the Civil Hospital in nearby Mohna. The driver fled, abandoning the vehicle.

Hisar
Ex-naib tehsildar sentenced
: A court at Hansi has sentenced a former naib tehsildar, Hari Om Bishnoi, to three-month imprisonment for contempt of court. A resident of Hansi, Kashi Ram had filed a complaint in the court in 2005 that the naib tehsildar had registered a plot in the name of a woman despite a court order restraining the transfer of that plot.

Kurukshetra
1 dies, two hurt in road mishap:
Manpreet Singh of Sonti village in this district was killed while Gagandeep of Brachpur village and Sandeep Kumar of Ramkishan of Slempur village were injured when a truck and a motor cycle collided on Ladwa road near Mathana village,12 km from here, on Friday. The police has registered a case in this connection.

Keep vigil on child labour
: DC: Palwal Deputy Commissioner Vijay Singh Dahiya has cautioned those employing children to do labour. He said punishment, including registration of criminal cases, would be meted out to the guilty. He has ordered the authorities to step up vigil to curb child labour, which, according to the Child Labour Act, is a crime.

Rewari
One dies in road mishap:
Nathu Ram (40), manager of the Motla Kalan branch of Cooperative Bank and a resident of nearby Kheda Alampur village, died when his motor cycle was hit by a scooter on the Jhajjar-Rewari road, near Rohrai village, on Thursday. The mishap took place when he was returning home.

Youth killed in group clash: A youth was killed at Khera village of the district after he was hit on the head with an axe in a group clash on Thursday evening. Identified as Ramdhari, he had tried to broker peace between the two warring groups of villagers. Two youths of the village had a verbal duel that took an ugly turn with their supporters throwing brickbats at each other.The deceased tried to intervene. Meanwhile, someone hit him on the head with an axe. He died soon after arrival at a local hospital.

Man murdered
: A man was murdered for having illicit relations at Lohgarh village in the district on Thursday. The police said Tek Chand suspected that Raj Kumar had illicit relations with his wife. The two had an altercation in the morning after which Tek Chand allegedly attacked Raj Kumar (28) with a sharp-edged weapon killing him on the spot.

DEHRADUN

Thieves decamp with cash,  jewellery: Thieves broke into the house of RK Rathore at Himalayan Apartments on the Rajpur road around 10 am on Friday. None of the members of Rathore’s family was present at home at the time of the incident. The thieves decamped with jewellery and Rs 50,000. No arrest has been made so far. Rathore is a manager with the LIC.

One held for felling trees: Officials of the Forest Department have arrested one person for the felling of two sandal trees from the nursery of the department. The accused, Nandu, had allegedly chopped the sandal trees on Wednesday night. The wood has been seized from his possession. According to officials, he has been involved in earlier instances of the illegal felling of sandal trees as its wood is in great demand and is priced quite high.

Woman succumbs to injuries: A woman undergoing treatment at a hospital in Almora succumbed to her injuries. The victim, Rekha Devi (20), was pregnant. She had been admitted to the hospital on January 31. Her father Puran Singh of Lavesal village near Kausani has alleged that his daughter has been killed for dowry. The matter is being probed by the revenue police.

Driver charred to death: A dumper driver was charred to death when his stationary vehicle caught fire after being hit by a tractor-trailer. The incident took place in the Kunwarpur Sisaiya area of Sitarganj in Udham Singh Nagar. The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Santokh Singh of Nanakmatta. He was asleep when the collision took place.

Wild boar scare in Almora: Residents of the Danya area of Almora district have sought a solution to the problem of agricultural produce being destroyed by a wild boar. They said the wild boar had wreaked havoc in a large number of villages as it had been destroying the vegetables and pulses that are grown by them. The villages worst affected by the menace are Dikharkholi, Ara Salpadh, Mayoli, Nayal Kungada, Kabhdi, Farakholi, Birmaula, Gauli and Balekh.
