Ambala, February 3 The prosecution said, there was a dispute between two groups over the dispute of a drain in the village. One of the groups fired at the other group in which Thakur Das sustained bullet injuries and was admitted in the civil hospital. Later the police registered a case. Chemist shops raided
Dera Bassi, February 3 A team headed by drug inspector Sudha Behal raided Satnam Medical Hall, Dera Bassi, from where 300 tablets and capsules were seized and a case was sent to the authorities concerned for further action. Along with this, Venus Medical Store was also raided and 150 capsules were seized. The drug inspector said that the campaign would continue in future. |

Purse, Rs 5,000 snatched
Ambala, February 3 According to information, when the woman was paying fare to a rickshaw puller, motorcycle-borne two youths came there. They snatched the purse of the woman and fled. The woman raised an alarm. Some of the passerby chased the snatchers but they managed to flee. It is not confirmed whether the woman has filed any complaint with the police or not. |

Driver booked for stealing goods worth Rs 61 lakh
Dera Bassi, February 3 As per information, Company Nector Life Sciences, situated near Dera Bassi, exported its goods made of chemical powder to Germany in 720 containers, weighing 25 kg each on dated. December 15, 2011 in truck no. HR 74 3709, belonging to Akal Transport Company for Dadri port. The material was later forwarded by sea route. Company official Balbir Singh alleged that the company received a complaint from Germany that only 604 drums of 25 kg were received with proper material while 58 drums weighing 50 kgs each, were found mixed with 290 kg of sand. The value of the lost material was nearly Rs 61 lakh. SHO Gurdial Singh said that the sand was mixed to fulfill the weight of the stolen material. The police has booked truck driver Murtaza under Sections 406, 407, 420, 379 and 120 B of the IPC. |
Decide on greenbelt in three months: HC
Chandigarh, February 3 The directions came on a petition filed by the Residents Welfare Federation against the UT Administration and other respondents. In the public interest litigation (PIL) placed before the Bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Mahesh Grover, the petitioner, through counsel Ashok Sharma Nabhewal, had sought directions for the development of the greenbelt in front of houses 101 to 113, near Ajit Karam Singh International School. The Bench asserted, “According to the petitioner, residents of the locality, the area was kept reserved for a greenbelt and funds provided for the purpose of development of a greenbelt in the area by the local Member of Parliament out of government-allocated funds. “The grievance raised by the petitioner is that notwithstanding the above, no progress has been made and, in fact, the Chief Architect of the UT has, till date, not supplied the layout plan, drawings and blueprint of the proposed development work. “The petitioner has also stated that it filed a representation to the Mayor on July 11, 2008, which was followed by representations to other authorities. None of the representations having been answered one way or the other, the petitioner was left with no other remedy but to move court under Article 226.” The Bench ruled, “Having regard to the subject matter involved and the process which will be required to be initiated, it is our considered view that instead of entertaining this PIL at this stage, it will be more appropriate to leave the matter to the wise discretion of the authorities concerned. “Such authorities will examine the matter, particularly in the light of the facts stated by the petitioner in its representations dated May 25, 2005, December 16, 2006, August 12, 2007, and October 18, 2007, and thereafter, proceed in the matter as may be warranted in the law. “Necessary action by the respondent authorities will be initiated and completed within three months from the date of receipt of this order or a certified copy thereof. In the event action, as warranted in the law, is not taken by the respondent authorities, the petitioner will be at liberty to avail itself of all legal remedies”. |

26-year-old murdered in Sector 52, four nabbed
Chandigarh, February 3 The police arrested the four persons, who were residents of the same colony. Prior enmity was said to be the reason behind the attack. The incident occurred in the congested colony, right outside the residence of the victim. Dharminder worked as guard-cum-sweeper at public toilets in Sector 52. National artistic, inline roller hockey takes off
Chandigarh, February 3 Preliminary round of the events like artistic, inline free, pair skating and free skating were held on the first day of the championship. In the final, Panjab University, Chandigarh beat Kurukshetra University by 37-34. In the first semifinal, PU, Chandigarh, beat MG Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanash, by 51-28 while in the second semifinal Kurukshetra beat LNUPE, Gwalior, by 31-20.
