BLO removed, teacher served notice

Raminder Singh, Auction Recorder, Mullanpur Market Committee, who was deputed as a booth level officer (BLO) of booth No. 75 at Government Senior Secondary School, Boparai Kalan, has been removed on complaint of campaigning for a particular party. The District Election Officer has even asked the secretary of the Mullanpur Market Committee to serve a show-cause notice on him. Gurmit Singh, a clerk in the Plant Breeding Department of Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) has replaced Raminder Singh.

Stop displaying RTE guidelines: DGSE
Ludhiana, January 28
Implementing the instructions of the Election Commission, the Punjab Education Department has issued orders to stop the process of displaying the Right to Education Act (RTE) guidelines on school walls. In a letter issued by the Director General of School Education (DGSE), it is mentioned that political parties could take credit of the decision to display these RTE Act guidelines and therefore the process of displaying the guidelines should be stopped.

Where contenders don’t need no education

From private matriculation to masters in commerce, candidates have done it all.
The Tribune checked the educational qualifications (submitted by them at the time of filing nomination papers) of 33 candidates and found some interesting facts.
Out of the 33 candidates, the SAD has two candidates, who have done postgraduation while the BJP and Congress have one postgraduate each.
SAD candidates Charanjit Singh Atwal (Payal) and Sharanjit Singh Dhillon (Sahnewal) have done LLB while Rajinder Bhandari of the
BJP, who is contesting from Ludhiana West, has done masters in commerce.

Shahi Imam Habib Ur Rehman Sani Ludhianavi in a press conference today stated that the
SAD-BJP alliance had betrayed the community by not fulfilling their genuine demands.
Shahi Imam said their party Majlis Ahrar Islam and 90 per cent of the Muslims would support the Congress.
Shahi Imam said the reservation cell of Punjab welfare department had sent a letter to the Deputy Commissioners of all districts asking them not to issue SC certificates to Muslims, which had taken the Muslim community aback.

Election officer orders probe
Ludhiana, January 28
After The Tribune highlighted that a SAD councillor and his family members are having votes in two places, the District Electoral Officer (DEO) has marked an inquiry into the matter.
660 cartons of liquor seized
Macchiwara, January 28
The district police has seized 660 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) comprising 7,920 bottles meant to be distributed during the elections. Khanna SSP, Mandeep Singh Sidhu, said a police team had on a tip-off barricaded the Nawashahar-Samrala road. A Tata 907 was intercepted on the Macchiwara-Kohara road and 298 cartons seized from the vehicle. The driver, however, managed to escape.
