Cong misleading people: Sukhbir
Fazilka/Guru Harsahai, January 27 Addressing largely attended election rallies at Fazilka and Guru Harsahai, Sukhbir said that the Akali Dal always made feasible promises based on thorough study of available resources and innovative ideas, and this time too a team of experts had provided the revenue structure for each and every commitment made in the manifesto. Sukhbir said it was an eye opener for the Congress party that all the four states including Bihar, Punjab, Chhatisgarh and Uttar Pradesh that excelled in growth were being governed by non-Congress parties. He said the election has provided an opportunity to the electorate to choose between Parkash Singh Badal, a man of the masses and four time Chief Minister, and Amarinder Singh, an arrogant ‘Maharaja’ who is threatening his opponents. Parkash Singh Badal has devoted his entire life to the uplift of people. Sukhbir said that the fiscal deficit as a percentage of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) stood at 5.35 per cent during Amarinder’s Congress regime and the SAD-BJP government succeeded in bringing it down to 3.14 per cent, better than the centre's figure of 5.1 per cent for 2010-11. He said that the ratio of debt to GSDP has been brought down by the Punjab government to 30 per cent from the mind boggling figure of 46 per cent during the Congress regime, which was again far below the ratio of 51 per cent achieved by the centre. “The revenue deficit figure during Captain's tenure stood at 4.56 percent, we reduced it to just 1.33 per cent, again better than the 2.3 per cent achieved by the Congress-led UPA government,” he said. Sukhbir said that even the senior Congress leader and union Minister for Plan Implementation Ashwani Kumar had in the parliament stated that Punjab under the SAD-BJP government registered second highest growth in the country during 11th Five year Plan by achieving 7.5 per cent growth rate as against the target of 5.9 per cent, whereas, growth rate was restricted to 4.5 per cent as against targeted rate of 6.4 per cent during Amarinder regime. He said that the people of Punjab want continuation of development initiatives that have changed the face of Punjab. “Congress party has ignored its loyalists and given precedence to money bag culture while allocating election tickets resulting in sure shot defeat of Congress party,” he said. |

BJP top guns disappoint voters
Bathinda, January 27 The rallies of these women leaders of the BJP in Ferozepur, Fazilka and Abohar during the past two days were suddenly cancelled leaving the candidates and the party rank and file high and dry at this crucial point of time. Vasundhara Raje was scheduled to address election rallies at Ferozepur, Fazilka and Abohar today but her visit was suddenly cancelled in the morning and thereafter Sririti Irani, TV star and president of the women wing of the BJP, was asked to fly to these places. However, it was a long wait for the audience that kept waiting in the party rallies since 11 am and finally the programme to Ferozepur and Fazilka was cancelled but she landed at Abohar at 5 pm where she was actually scheduled to arrive
at 1 pm. The Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal addressed a largely attended rally of the BJP candidate Surjit Kumar Jiyani at Fazilka as Irani failed to turn up. So far from among the top brass of the BJP, only Rajnath Singh addressed a BJP rally at Ferozepur on January 25. The leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj was initially supposed to address an election rally at Ferozepur on January 23 but her visit was postponed to January 25 and subsequently put off. State BJP general secretary Kamal Sharma said that Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje were unable to come because of indisposition. Meanwhile, the SAD was expecting Vasundhara Raje to campaign for the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal tomorrow in the Lambi constituency and also for the SAD candidate in Gidderbaha. |

Capt should apologise to youth: Harsimrat
Bathinda, January 27 Addressing a series of rallies in the Budhlada area, Harsimrat said that Amarinder Singh was responsible for pushing the youth of Punjab into the web of frustration and drug addiction because the ban on recruitment resulted in lakhs of youth becoming overage and ineligible for any job. She said that what to call of government recruitment Amarinder also scuttled Bathinda refinery project for his personal interest that could have provided direct and indirect employment to over one lakh youth. She said that the youth of Punjab is not going to forgive Amarinder who has spoiled the lives of lakhs of Punjabis by his totally irrational decision of banning the recruitment. She said that it was unfortunate that the SAD-BJP government inherited school education system that had 84,000 vacancies of teachers and all government offices were working totally on skeleton staff. |
