T-20 tourney: King’s XI beat
Star XI by 39 runs in the first T-20 Challenge Cup Cricket Tournament which kicked off today. The Amritsar Bar Association is organising the tournament at Gandhi Ground. Bikram Jit Singh with 53 runs was the top scorer for the winning team.

Convocation of INIFD held:
The International Institute of Fashion Designing (INIFD), Hamirpur, held its annual convocation here in which Managing Director of the institute Sat Pal Sharma gave away degrees, diploma certificates and medals to passouts of Indian Business Management (IBM) course. Students of the IBM also presented a colourful cultural programme on the occasion. Addressing the students, Sharma said after obtaining degrees and diplomas at the IBM, the students would be able to get jobs in multinational companies.

KANGRA
Liquor seized:
The Kangra police on Friday seized 80 boxes of country liquor from a pick-up van and arrested three persons under the Excise Act during raids in the Kangra valley. The three, arrested in different raids, are Des Raj, alias Hanuman, of Gurkhari, Gian Chand, of Kohala, and Karnail Singh of Basa village under the Shahpur police station.

Suicide by woman: A 29-year-old housewife and mother of two, Tara Devi, succumbed to her burn injuries at the Tanda hospital on Friday. Her husband Anil Kumar has been booked on charges of torture and abetment to suicide. Tara Devi was allegedly tortured by her husband, which forced her to commit suicide, the police said.

Woman jumps into khad:
Ruma Devi, 56, wife of Ram Chander of Badrana in the Dharampur block of the district, was found dead at the Kasni Khad by her family members. She had jumped into the khad on Sunday. The family members claimed that she had committed suicide by jumping into the khad. Her body was found in the khad today by villagers who informed the police. The family members claimed that she was not keeping good health and was mentally unsound.

NURPUR
Girl run over by school van:
Palak (3), daughter of Rajesh Kumar of Bhaloonh in Jawali subdivision, was hit and run over by a school van when she was stranded on the roadside at Matlahar on Monday. The seriously injured girl was rushed to the Community Health Centre, Jawali, from where she was referred to the Civil Hospital, Nurpur, where she succumbed to her injuries. According to DSP, Jawali, Bhupinder Singh Negi, the accused driver and the school van have been identified by the police and a case registered.

Drive against illegal sale of liquor:
The police on Sunday launched a drive against the sale of liquor by rehriwalas, kiosk owners, restaurants and dhabas. Under this drive, two persons have been arrested for allegedly selling liquor at eatery outlets on the Rajpur road.

Concern over irregular power cuts: Opposition leader of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation, Ashok Verma, Congress councillors and a group of traders from Ghosi Ghali and the Dispensary road met Executive Engineer, Power Corporation, Raghuraj Singh regarding irregular power cuts. Verma said traders were the worst affected due to irregular power cuts. He demanded that the department should fix the timings of cuts. Raghuraj Singh gave them an assurance to look into their problem.

Woman succumbs to honey bee stings: A villager from the Gadarpur area of Udham Singh Nagar was killed when she was stung by a swarm of honey bees. It is learnt that 65-year-old Kumari Devi of Gumchayya Colony had gone to the Pipli forest area along with another woman Sukhiya Devi to graze two cows. It was while they were returning on Sunday evening that they were attacked by the bees on account of which Kumari Devi died while the other woman is still fighting for her life.

Accident victim dies: A girl, who had been injured in a road accident in Haldwani on November 3, died while being treated in a hospital in Delhi after fighting for her life for 18 days. A resident of the Halduchaur area, Kavita and her brother Manoj had been run over by a truck near Gorapadav tri-junction while they were returning home on a motorcycle. Kavita was scheduled to get married later this month. The cause of her death is said to be excessive bleeding. It is learnt that after being treated in Haldwani she had been rushed to Bareilly and then to Delhi. In the process one of her legs had been amputated.

Teenaged girl dies of burns: A teenaged girl, who had sustained massive burns some days ago, died while being treated at Sushila Tewari Memorial Hospital in Haldwani. It is learnt that 15 year old Nargis had sustained 70 per cent burns when the gas cylinder in her house had caught fire while she was cooking food. A resident of Mirpur village of the Afzalgarh area of Bijnore district, she had been referred to the hospital in Haldwani after being administered first aid. Her body was handed over to her family for burial after a post-mortem examination.

Motorcyclist killed: A resident of Gadarpur area of Udham Singh Nagar was killed when his motorcycle collided with a tractor-trailer that had overturned. The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Suresh Kumar of Lucknow Colony. He was going to the State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttaranchal (SIDCUL) area along with two of his accomplices when the accident occurred. His accomplices travelling on his motorcycle also sustained major injuries. The police has impounded the tractor-trailer that was laden with wood.
