Vehicle thieves arrested
Ambala, November 9 Deputy Commissioner Shashank Anand today said after receiving a tip-off, a police party conducted a raid at a deserted place near Community Centre, Ambala Cantt, last evening, where the gang members were planning a dacoity. The police overpowered the accused identified as Rajbir, a resident of Gwal Mandi, Bunty and Chhotu of Ram Kishan Colony and Bharat of Patel Nagar, Ambala Cantt. The police also took the possession of two stolen motorcycles being used by the gang for committing the crime. The gang had been operating in the district for the past two years and used to snatch vehicles. It said it expected recovery of more vehicles after the interrogation of the accused. Investigation officer said several cases were registered against them. They were produced in a local court, which sent them to judicial custody. |

Illegal structures razed
Ambala, November 9 Shekhar Vidyarthi, Deputy Commissioner, in a meeting with the district officials last evening ordered to issue an ultimatum to owners of 82 illegal buildings asking them to demolish the structures on their own, failing which the same would be done by the civic body officials. Deputy Commissioner said notices had already been served on the encroachers and those who had failed to voluntarily remove encroachments would face action and the illegal structures would be pulled down. Orders were issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court after a petition was filed by local advocate KS Bedi pointing out that the authorities were not taking any action for the removal of about 356 illegal encroachments. In his petition, he stated that encroachments in Ambala Cantt had spread in the past few years and the local administration was not bothered. Around 97 illegal encroachments were removed by the district administration in the month of July this year, investigation into 177 structures undergoing freehold trials was ordered and the court ordered to take action against the remaining 82 structures before November 16 under the supervision of Dr SS Phulia, Additional Deputy Commissioner, and MK Ahuja, Sub-Divisional Magistrate. Krishan Kumar Yadav, secretary of the municipal corporation, today said during the current anti-encroachment drive, the civic body had demolished illegal structures in Gur Mandi, Nicholson road, Municipal Market on the Jagadhari road and Halwai Bazar. He said the drive would continue and all encroachers would be dealt with sternly. |
3 get 7 years for beating up man to death
Panchkula, November 9 On April 17 the previous year, Ashok went to the house of Saleem and asked him to accompany him. Saleem’s sister Razia was at home that time. When Saleem did not return, Razia started searching for him. She found that Ashok, Parveena and another person, named Saleem ‘welding wala’, accompanied by two unidentified persons, were beating up her brother nearby. On April 19, Saleem died at the PGI. He had divorced his wife Parveena in January the previous year as he suspected her fidelity. |

Four nabbed with weapons
Chandigarh, November 9 The police arrested Parveen Kumar of Raipur village in Sonepat district and Ravinder Kumar of Mauli Jagran from a checkpoint on the rear of Neelam theatre in Sector 17 with a Bolero jeep bearing a fake number. It recovered two pistols and 10 live cartridges from their possession. In another incident, Manoj Kumar of Sector 9 and Rajinder Kumar of Sector 8, both hailing from Ambala City, were arrested with a Bolero jeep with a fake number from a checkpoint near the cremation ground at Daria. One loaded pistol and one loaded ‘katta’ were recovered from their possession. |

Pharmacists arrested
Chandigarh, November 9 Pharmacists from Punjab and Himachal Pradesh arrived at Chandigarh to protest outside the office of Punjab’s Director, Health and Family Welfare, at Sector 34 here. Hukam Chand Teja, Jalandhar district president of the pharmacists’ association, said they were protesting peacefully
and wanted to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister. The major demands raised by them included pay revision and creation of senior designations. Sector-34 police station SHO Kirpal Singh said the 326 protesters who were would be produced in court tomorrow. |

Widow gangraped
Chandigarh, November 9 She was from Amritsar and was was unemployed. She came to get back money, given to the accused at Patiala. She stated that the accused met her at Patiala about a year ago and assured her to send her son abroad for Rs 1.5 lakh. They failed to send her son abroad. She met them for money and they raped her. She identified Nawab and Chintoo of Patiala. The woman failed to provide the number of the car and of the mobile phone on which she was contacting the accused. She also complained that her mobile phone was snatched by them. She was taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 16. Her medico-legal report was not revealed till the time of filing of this report. The police was investigating and a case of rape and snatching was registered. |

Panchkula, November 9Colour Udyog, a factory, where an employee suffered severe An official of the department said the management of the factory was asked to present the record pertaining to employees, but it was unable to show anything in this regard. Following which challans under the Minimum Wages Act, Payment of Wages Act, Labour Welfare Act and National Festival and Holidays Act were issued to the owner, said the officials. On November 7, a fire broke out in the factory and two workers sustained serious burn injuries. |

‘Dangal’: Steelmen steal the show
Chandigarh, November 9 However, the main attraction of the competition was ace Indian wrestler and Beijing Olympics bronze-medallist in men’s (66kg) freestyle category, Sushil Kumar, who showered his presence in the arena to boost the confidence of the participants. “I have visited the city after a long period; it is great to see the enthusiasm among the participants here. I wish the sports lover could get a separate wrestling arena like here, so that more youngsters could join the game. I wish the participants my wishes to shine in future,” said Sushil. Sources said about 200 wrestlers participated in the tournament from different parts of the city, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Rajashtan and Himachal Pradesh. The organisers have also given cash rewards from Rs 1100 to Rs 1,10,000 among the winners. “I am very happy with the tourney. This is for the first time; I have participated in the ‘akhara’. My guru will be very happy when he would come to know hat I won Rs 200 in cash” said Kalu of Mullanpur ‘akhara’. |
Police club, Saupin’s enter final
Chandigarh, November 9 In the first semi-final of the senior category, District Football Association, Ambala, went down against the local police club by 1-0. After a goal less draw in first half Gagandeep Singh scored the decider of the match inn the 66th minute however Sachin from Ambala outfit missed a chance to take a lead in the match during the 60th minute of the game. Munish lead the police team while scorer Gagandeep was declared man of the match. In the semi-final of the junior category, Saupin’s School, Sector 32, overcame Strawberry Field School, Sector 26, by 3-2. Rayvin of Strawberry School scored the first goal for his team in the 7th minute while Aryaman levelled the score for Saupin’s in the 12th minute. Saupin’s team took the lead through in the 19th minute while Ekam of Strawberry outfit again levelled the score in the 30th minute of the game. But just before the half time, Parminder scored the decider for the winners. Aryaman of Saupin’s school was adjudged man of the match. |
