Three cable network offices sealed

Ambala, October 12
Network offices of three local cable operators functioning at Ambala Cantt have been sealed by the district administration. Sources said a complaint was lodged with the district administration that some illegal cable network operators were functioning without seeking permission in Ambala. Notices under Section 4 of Cable Television Network (Regulation Act), 1995, were served on Ambala Cable Network, Nisha Cable Network and Radhey Cable Network.

Man, son booked for fraud

The police has booked Chandigarh-based father-son duo for duping a Sector-2 resident. On the complaint of Vikram, the police has registered an FIR against father Tarsem Singla and son Sumit. Vikram in his complaint has alleged that he was interested in purchasing a kothi in Sector 35, Chandigarh, for which the father-son duo had taken Rs 75 lakh from him but they were delaying the registration. Vikram further alleged that later he came to know that the kothi was already mortgaged and he demanded his money back. Thereafter, they gave a cheque for Rs 61 lakh to Vikram, but it was bounced.

Four booked for abducting minor

Zirakpur: The police today booked four persons, including two women, for allegedly abducting a minor girl, a student of a Sector-9 school, Chandigarh, on the complaint of MP Singh, grandfather of the girl and a resident of Sector 23-A, Chandigarh. A police official stated that the accused had been identified as Inderjit Singh Malik, Surinder Singh Malik and mother of Inderjit Singh, all residents of Orbit Apartment, Zirakpur, and Dr Sangeeta, a resident of Sector 36, Chandigarh. The police said the accused had called the girl at a food joint situated on the Ambala-Chandigarh highway in Zirakpur and abducted her.

Police fails to take action

Lalru: No action has been taken to nab the driver who had crushed an unidentified person on the Lalru flyover. Dera Bassi DSP stated that the matter was not in his knowledge. He said he would look into the matter.

Chain snatched

Mohali: Two motorcycle-borne youths snatched a gold chain from Gurkiran Kaur, a resident of Sector 69, here this morning. The incident occurred when Gurkiran was waiting for a bus. The youths managed to flee from the spot. She also tried calling on “100”, but could not get through.

Four hurt in clash at Ram Darbar

Chandigarh, October 12
A clash took place between two groups at Ram Darbar here the previous night. Four persons were seriously injured in the group clash. Persons armed with swords and sticks set a motorcycle on fire and pelted stones on and beat each other up. The police booked 23 persons in an attempt-to-murder case.

The clash began around 10:30 pm outside a house where a marriage was being organised. A group was dancing when members of a rival group passed comments.

A heated scuffle ensued. The two groups were made to disperse by residents so that there was no disturbance during the ceremony.

The two groups, armed with swords, gathered at the same place around 2 am. They attacked each other and set a motorcycle on fire.

The police reached the spot and took stock of the situation. Four persons who were injured seriously were rushed to a hospital, where the condition of one of them was stated to be critical.

The police arrested nine persons and began raids to nab the other 14, who were absconding. A case of attempt-to-murder, rioting and criminal intimidation was registered under Sections 147, 148, 149, 323, 307, 435 and 506 of the IPC at the Sector-31 police station.

The accused named in the FIR were Suraj, Anil, Rakesh, Deepak, Monu, Anil Kumar, Ahrar, Joginder, Subash, Ajay, Monu, Sunny, Ravi, Balwinder, Rahul Rav, Shiri Ram, Ashok, Rocky, Situ, Love, Fashata, Suraj and Padhu.

Inspector Jaspal Singh, SHO of the Sector-31 police station, said the accused had prior enmity and had been involved in such cases in the past as well. The accused and the victims were residents of the same colony.

Rakesh of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37 (GMSSS-37), bagged first position in the 34-kg category of the ongoing Inter-School Karate Tournament for Boys (U-17) being held at Ajit Karam Singh International Public School, Sector 41, here today.

In the same category, Simranjit Singh of Government Model High School, Sector 43, secured second place, while Sumit of Government Model High School, Sector 39, finished third in the group.

GMSSS-10 blank DAV-15 in football tournament

Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10 (GMSSS-10), defeated DAV School, Sector 15, in a match of the ongoing Inter-School Football Tournament for Boys (U-19) being held at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, here today.

GMSSS-10 got the better of DAV-15 by 2-1. Naveen gave the lead to the winning team in the 18th minute, while Pankaj doubled the lead in the 32nd minute. For DAV-15, Ajay reduced the margin in the 52nd minute.

In the second match of the day, Shishu Niketan School, Sector 22, defeated GMSSS-22 by 2-0. Rajan Negi guided the team to victory in the 16th and 36th minutes of the game, while Moti Ram School awarded a walk over against AKSIPS-45.

SAI-Chandigarh lose in hockey

SAI Northern Centre, Chandigarh, went down against SAI South Centre, Bangalore, during the match of the ongoing All-India Inter-Sports Authority of India (SAI) Regional Hockey Tournament for Boys being held at the hockey stadium of the Sports Complex, Sector 42, here today.

In the first match of the day, SAI South Centre, Bangalore, defeated SAI, Chandigarh, by 7-0. Gautam scored four goals in the 7th, 11th, 43rd and 47th minutes. S Ramesh (24th minute), Xilciv (33rd minute) and Rafeeq (36th minute) were other main scorers.

SAI NRC Sonepat won the second match after defeating SAI Central Centre, Bhopal, by 3-2.

Naveen scored the first goal for Sonepat in the 17th minute, while Agay doubled the lead in the 19th minute, but Bhopal team came back in the match through Kamlesh in the 32nd minute and he again strike to level the score in the 36th minute of the game.

But Bangalore team failed to stop Naveen to score the decider in the 38th minute of the game.

In the third match of the day, SAI Western Centre, Gandhinagar, defeated SAI Training Centre, Patiala, by 3-1.

For Gandhinagar team, Bushan Dhare, Paras Gupta and Narad Bhadur scored the goals, while for the rivals, Charandeep Singh scored the lone consoling goal.

Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, defeated Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 32, in the ongoing Inter-School Ball Badminton Championship being held here today.

Shishu Niketan-22 thrashed GMSSS-32 by 29-22, 29-21. In the second match of the day, Moti Ram Senior Secondary School, Sector 27, overcame St Joseph School, Sector 44, by 29-6 and 29-0.

In the third match of the day, IS Dev Samaj School, Sector 21, defeated Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 23, by 29-14 and 29-12, while DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, defeated MDAV School, Sector 22, by 29-23 and 29-13.

Ball badminton trials today

The Chandigarh Ball Badminton Association will conduct selection trials to select the Chandigarh sub-junior national ball badminton team at Shishu Niketan School, Sector 22, tomorrow.

The team will participate in the Sub-Junior National Ball Badminton Championship to be held at Bhilai, Chattisgarh, from November 10 to 13.

According to officials, players born on after January 2, 1996 will be eligible to take part in the trials. The interested players can contact general secretary of the association.
