Three cheers!
In Chandigarh for the promotion of their new album, Naina De Buhe, the Wadalis share the experience of having come together in an album for the first time
Jasmine Singh

Lakhwinder Wadali, the Punjabi singer, hesitates while speaking in front of his father Puran Chand Wadali and uncle Pyarelal Wadali. He looks at them for approval; a nod, a smile, a reassurance whenever possible. The two, let the junior Wadali take on the lead; he assumes the role like a team manager.

In Chandigarh for the promotion of their new album, Naina De Buhe and for a live performance at the Chandigarh Club, it is a delight to hear the symphony that comes out of the three strings, after a long time.

"We have come together in an album for the first time and it is something that our listeners would love to tune into," says Lakhwinder, resting his gaze on his father who smiles back. "After my uncle's accident, people had started assuming that we had fallen apart; this album is a way to tell people that we are still together. It also serves as a platform to introduce me to my father's and uncle's loyal fans."

The album will have no peppy or foot-tapping numbers. The songs are Sufi and two are folk numbers. "My family is not against the 'new additions' in the Sufi music, we, however, want to give our listeners something soulful for hearing," provides Lakhwinder.

The young Wadali does the talking, but we welcome interjections from the senior. Puran Chand Wadali adds in chaste Punjabi, "We are singers, and we consider singing as ibaadat. Music scene in the outside world could be changing; we want to sing and just sing."

The generation gap is obvious but Lakhwinder is modest enough to admit, "I come from a different generation, however, there is no denying the fact that I cannot reach where my father and uncle have reached. This album was a learning ground for me; I realized that my father and uncle keep music on the highest level in their lives."

Father and son working together, there is undoubtedly abundant place for arguments! The three break into a throaty laugh. Lakhwinder is quick to fill in the gap, "I would always be nervous recording with my father, so I would request him to teach me before the final take. Sometimes, I would also request him to let me record alone. I am glad with the final product though, it has turned out pretty well."

We had the mention of 'music in the outside world changing' - wouldn't Puran Chand and Pyarelal want to change with time, adopt a marketing strategy? "I generally don't comment on what Lakhwinder sings, if that doesn't appeal to us," Puran Chand pats his son and smiles.

"He is good and we want to introduce him to our listeners. We are sure he will create a space for himself pretty soon."

As for Lakhwinder, his father and uncle have been very supportive. He looks up to them for guidance, but he can't deny the change.

"I would try and adapt to it. I cannot say the same about my family," looking at both for approval again. They smile back, a smile of reassurance and that of a proud father!

Larra Shah
healing therapy: Larra Shah

"Dependency on anyone or anything is not good, be it your spouse, teacher or astrologer," says Larra Shah, holistic healer. The statement is rather unlikely from someone who practices astrology and tarot!

A science student, Larra comes from a family of doctors. Her intuitiveness in childhood freaked those around her and capitalising on her natural gift, Larra today is a trusted advisor of many Bollywood celebs as well as diplomats with her own share of TV and radio shows.

Based out of Mumbai, Larra was in Chandigarh for a book reading at Rupa Book fair for her 'Miracle Cards' on Saturday. Hugely successful, the book has gone into reprint. "It's a favourite with all, even children, because even an eight-year-old can read it," says Larra, who took four years to write it.

"It's Tarot with Indian gods and goddesses. Even it gives some warnings, it also gives practical advice," says Larra.

Dividing her time between Mumbai and New York, Laara believes that ups and downs are a part of life, what matters is how much we learn in difficult times! "It's only when going through bad phase that we learn, in happy times we all run," she says giving Amitabh Bachchan's example, how he steered clear of personal, professional and financial problems.

"Not only Bachchan, everyone in Mumbai is consistently working his or her way up, which is one thing unique about the people there," she says. Her impressive client list includes the likes of Hema Malini, Farah Khan, Suzzane Roshan, designer Rohit Bal; top politicians and diplomats. "In fact, Indians, Americans and Italians are the absolute believers," says Larra who enjoys huge following in these three countries.

Man is a result of one's circumstances and Larra believes that good upbringing makes all the difference. "I am not for parents who stop kids from saying this, doing that! It is the three Es that parents need to provide to their children - the right environment, education and experience. "Give them wings to fly," she urges.

Larra is here not only for the fair but also her clients. "Though the book has all the answers, but, if you are still looking for assistance, I am here," she signs off.

Through Larra plays guide to many celebs, she stresses one is the best judge of one's own self. "Astrologers can provide guidance, but it's for an individual to access whether the advice is right," says Larra. A person not only knows the self the best, but also the people around and the environment one is in. Her book 'Miracle Card' lets one explore power of tarot at one's own pace.

"You need no course to learn to use Miracle Cards. Each one comes with its own simple instructions," says Larra. There are handy tips, the likes of what grandmothers would dole out!

"I don't say follow my book blindly. Test it, believe when you get the answers you are looking for," says this glamorous healer.

It’s a puppet’s world
Brigitte Revelli, a contemporary dancer from France, blends two art forms — puppetry and kathakali — in her musical puppetry show Until Life
Vasudha Gupta

The set up is as dramatic as the multicultural streak which exists at Alliance Française. Behind a huge white wheel set up in the middle of the room is a woman playing with her own shadows. In between the paper cuttings and figures is a huge puppet of a kathakali dancer. The drama begins to unfold as Brigitte starts talking about her passion for the dance form.

“My passion in puppetry has branched out of my love for contemporary dance,” she says. It was Brigitte’s love for understanding dance that got her acquainted with kathakali. “It was after a training session in France that I decided to come to India and learn kathakali in a better way,” she says. For any foreign blood in India, Delhi does tend to be a dry state.

It was after her tryst there that she decided to move to Kerela and learn the ground work of the dance form. Trained under the aegis of Sadanam Balakrishnan, she does not deny the fact that she had a tough time adjusting to the nuances of kathakali. “I love the amalgamation of drama, dance and music. The flow and movement in kathakali develops the puppets to find
the idiom between them,” she says.

Innovatively posing with the puppet, she does regret the few limitations of puppets. It’s really not possible for a puppet to have the eye movements or the exact expressions, which is why she to manipulate them in some way. “For the movements in nose and eyes, I have added springs to come as close to an artist and represent the exact emotion,” she says. There are very few who truly add to the worth of the respect commanded by an art form. Brigitte is one of those. Apologising for her nascent control over English, she says, “I just fell in love with kathakali. It has great artistic architecture, which has been intelligently articulated.”

The play witnesses the mix of puppetry, shadows, masks and acting. It showcases a patchwork of short stories. “The first act of the play is the round screen you can see and the entire play revolves around it,” she says. Centering around three main characters, she elaborates about them. “The main character is that of a black bird, which comes out of now where and actually helps structure the plot of the story and comes face to face with two beings, which are half human and half bird,” she says. The beings communicate seamlessly with myths that they generate. It is during this cosmic atmosphere that a special being emerges. “This being is egoistic, selfish and arrogant,” she adds.

The forces of nature bring this being to the point, which force him to learn the lessons of humility. In Chandigarh for the first time, Brigitte hopes to touch the lives of all those watching the play and derive their own inferences out of it. “Each person has the freedom to look at it in a way desired,” she says, disappearing into the black curtain, with her puppets.

Myth no more
The author of The Secret of The Nagas, Amish Tripathi, in Chandigarh, shares how only creative satisfaction is his driving force
Ashima Sehajpal

Two stories run parallel to each other. The first pertains to the inspiration behind the book – the literature, philosophies, the protagonist Lord Shiva and his adventures. The second story is about how the book is rejected by publishers, out-of-the-box marketing strategy, the success and compliments. With the author of The Secret of The Nagas, Amish Tripathi, the interview is more of a story-telling session!

Subject wise

Just as the supernatural beings are divided into gods and demons in the Hindu mythology, it is done in the Zoroastrian mythology. “The only difference is that according to it, the evil forces are referred to as gods and demons are noble.” Going by that, he started writing a philosophy, which when was completed wasn’t considered very reader-friendly. “Nobody liked it. I was then told to mix it with fiction. I began doing it and found no better hero than Lord Shiva.”

Myth reworked

Experiments with mythology are risky. How the world reacted to Dan Brown’s theory on Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary is a case in point. But when Amish started interpreting Hindu mythology in a different light, he never had any apprehensions. “Every version of Ramayana is different. Even Mahabharata and the story of Krishna have been presented differently.” According to his book, around four thousand years ago, Lord Shiva was just a human being. “We have an extremely liberal society. We accept what we like and reject what we don’t, without raising strong objections. It’s the structure of the society that helped me pen a book like this,” he informs.

The journey

The manuscript was outrightly rejected. The book is neither Chick Lit nor was a campus story. “The publishers I approached appreciated my writing style but asked me to modify the story. They asked me to pen down my experiences at the IIM Kolkata.” That never happened for two reasons - one he believed in the story and two he never had any outstanding experience at the IIM! Then a marketing strategy was very intelligently crafted and put into place. “Ten thousand copies of the first chapter were distributed for free at book shops across the country. People read it, found it interesting and came back to the book shops asking for the complete book. The publishers’ belief in my story was restored and the book went into printing.” Further publicity was done through a theatrical trailer of the book on YouTube and the website of the book. Next in line is releasing the trailer in various multiplexes.

Matter of fact

“Critical acclaim doesn’t matter. To be very honest, even what readers feel about the book doesn’t count much. To me, important was that my book gets published as I wanted it to. More than a Booker or Pulitzer Prize; what matters is if the book has given me creative satisfaction,” he says.

Boyz just wanna have fun!
Pakistani band Raga Boyz enjoys experimenting with different genres of music
Manpriya Khurana

Members of the band Raga Boyz.
bonding well: Members of the band Raga Boyz.

Here they come again! And are they back with a bang? With a band for sure! Raga Boyz, the brother quadrant band from Pakistan, believes in connecting with the audience. That's what they are going to be doing this time.

Shares Wali Hamid Ali Khan, the lead vocalist from the group, "What we play generally depends on the crowd. We are into all sorts of music, right from rock to semi-classical to RnB to fusion. If the crowd wants us to play Punjabi music, we'll do it for them."

In Chandigarh, as part of the World Tourism Week celebrations, the band members speak of their belief in dabbling in a lot of genres. "There are a lot of other bands in Pakistan, but most of them are into only one type of music. If they are into rock, then are only into rock. But that's' not the case with us." An art, that perhaps, comes with being trained in Patiala Gharana.

No wonder, their upcoming album will be a reflection of lot of influences, inspirations and music. "Our album Zindagi will be out soon. It has a total of 14 tracks ranging from rhythm and blues to classical." Fitted in is a bhangra track as well. "It would be best described as world music album."

Meanwhile, apart from making music, they've been touring all over the places. "We've just come back from America. Had a concert there, now we are in the city again after a month and a half." Speaking of which, the incessant touring that is, the Chinese experience is what they remember the most. "We performed in front of a crowd of roughly 30,000 to 40,000 people. And all of them were Chinese, no Indians, no Pakistanis. Even before we began, we were wondering, 'would they even understand anything'. They, of course, did get the lyrics, but at the end of it all, the crowd was screaming with joy." Wherever, you go, music connects. It's almost time for their sound check to begin now, time to leave them alone with their music, for just a little while.

Master Chef
The pear parody
Kandla Nijhowne

The Biblical tale of Adam and Eve and the apple may be popular but finally, the pear too carries a great deal of significance in Christian folklore. Homer declared them a ‘Gift from the Gods’. Mythological narrative claims that on Christmas morning, a young maiden was supposed to walk backwards around a pear tree three times. Then, when she gazes into the branches of the tree, she will see the image of her future husband! If a lass of generation now were spotted performing this drama, I'd catch hold of her and promptly consign her to the loony bin. Pears are very versatile for tossing into a salad, or doing chutneys, crumbles and pies. Here is a take on the poached pear, except that this version is stuffed and baked to a squishy, moist and warm perfection. Buon appetito!

Baked pears supreme

4 medium sized, firm pears

1 cup crumbled paneer

2 tbsp honey

½ tsp ground cinnamon

¼ tsp ground ginger

Cinnamon powder for dusting

Method

n Halve the pears and scoop out the seeds with a melon baller or a sharp edged spoon. (The hollow should be large enough to hold a tablespoonful of stuffing.)

n Mix the crumbled paneer and honey, then add chopped walnuts, cinnamon and ginger powder.

n Spoon a generous portion of the filling in the hollow centre of each pear half.

n Dust lightly with cinnamon powder.

n Bake in a moderate, preheated oven for 20 minutes or till the pears soften and get warmed through.

n Serve hot or cold with ice cream, custard or runny cream.

It’s rocking
Jugni once more

Bring it on. Bring more. We don't mind any number of versions of the folk song Jugni. Every time a new treatment is rendered to the song, like it was done in Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Tanu Weds Manu, it gets even better. The basic melody is so beautifully composed that any slight variations would only make it sound better. In Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster also, Jugni proves to be the USP of the album. It's full of energy, introduction of new beats make it a fast track and lyrics complement the madness in the tune completely. Fans can't stop raving about the track.

Fun restored

Jugni of Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster is a fun song. The tune is old but the lyrics are modern. The Punjabi track composed by Jaidev Kumar is the high point of the album. Sung by Babbu Mann, the song will for sure rule the chart for the some weeks. The new version of the song is as much fun as was the one heard a few years back in Oye Lucky Lucky Oye.

Seerat Sidhu, student, MCM DAV College.

Peek-a-boo

The song so much complements the character of Mahie Gill in the film. The video of the song is like a sneak peek into the characters of the movie, which I really liked. The bhangra track has got some fantastic lyrics. The folk tune has been used again and again by the music composers, but it is the slight changes that make the song a hit yet again. Jaidev Kumar has done great job.

Ria Sharma, student, Panjab University.

Babbu's Bollywood entry

The song might open doors for Babbu Mann in Bollywood. He has retained the folk touch in the song very well. This is probably the best version of the song Jugni. The lyrics mirror the modern woman who doesn't take her husband's betrayal and in fact rebels. Jaidev Kumar's music is as always, very promising. Chemistry between Mahie Gill and Randeep Hooda in the song is sizzling.

Folk turns Jazz(y)
Punjabi singer Jazzy B's upcoming album Maharajas highlights the tales of old heroes of Punjab
Mona

Telling tales of old heroes of Punjab has been on Jazzy B's mind for quite sometime now. And with his upcoming album Maharajas he has realised his dream.

The video gives the feel of Hollywood flick 300, which Jazzy takes as a complement. "Dulla has been a great warrior and his tale needed this kind of grand treatment," says Jazzy, who was in Chandigarh with the preview of Maharajas.

Out of the total 12 songs, six are folk. "In earlier times, one heard these rich legends from our grandparents, but the present generation is not that fortunate," says this singer who has made an attempt to bring these folk tales alive.

What makes this album even more special is the collaboration with Jazzy's ustaad and mentor, the king of Punjabi folk music Kuldeep Manak and his son Yudhvir Manak. Not sure if Maharaja would work or not, Jazzy is happy that he took his chance.

Is there a movie in offing? "Well, I have been inundated with requests from my fans on Facebook or Twitter to act in a movie. I would sure do one when something interesting and the right time comes," says Jazzy.

This singer believes that Canada is the right place to be when it comes to art. "Not only is the government open, even people are very co-operative. The street signs are in Punjabi,” he says.

When art becomes meditation

Manu Mandeep Singh during the workshop on digital art
Manu Mandeep Singh during the workshop on digital art

The world of art is as big as you wish to explore. Looking at this definition, the Government College for Art, Chandigarh, organised a digital art workshop recently. Considering the technicalities involved in this field, the workshop surely was an insight for the budding artists of the college.

The workshop was conducted by Manu Mandeep Singh, who is in the league of his own. Physically challenged, this 28-year-old and a history graduate, has only groomed his love for art on the basis of his passion. His trust with computers and art started in 2003 and today, he has already been awarded by the 2nd Agnipath All-India Art Competition and Exhibition in Travancore Art Gallery, Delhi. Also the recipient at the 2nd Annual Indian Royal Academy Awards at Gulbarga, Karnataka, his works are not always convey a message. "Art is my passion," he says. Explaining the concept of digital arts, he says, "It is basically painting online, where photographs are scanned and edited to create digital photographs," he says. His works are popular not only nationally but internationally as well. "In 2006, I was part of a competition at Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal and then I found out about international exhibitions," he says.

It was after this he started sending his works abroad and has participated in exhibitions in USA and Iran. Talking about the lop-sided view of people towards arts, he says, "People think art is all about what they see in print. There is far more to art than just that. People should look at it the same way," he says.

His definition of art involves looking at it as a projection of self. "It is like meditation for me," he signs off. Hats off to combating challanges and fighting delemmas.

The Year Ahead
Madan Gupta Spatu

If your birthday is October 2...

Your birth in Libra sign certifies that you posses a mercurial temperament. You toe the line of some one and toil hard for him in business than to work for your own profits. The number two indicates that you are swayed by suspicion. You are soft in nature, like the cool moon light glow. You show a rough exterior to others, like Moon shows its surface.

Your interest in music and electronic devices could lead to some purchase on your birthday. This is also a fine time for signing contracts, filling out loan applications or asking favours of banks. In 2011-12 a social event could bring you into contact with someone who can be beneficial to you. This is a good time to hone your networking skills and to use the contacts that you have already made. You're tempted to work just a little, to catch up on email and the like during time off, but just say no. Go to a gallery, listen to music, try new cuisine and talk to new people; it'll feed your head in ways that may not be concrete but will be fruitful.

In December, you could feel discouraged by the trials and problems which concern your professional area and you'll tend to over exaggerate your concerns. If you manage a sector, you'll hand over a new task which needs a great deal of precision to someone you trust as you feel sure this person can handle it.

Students may not be very happy with their grades. Do not let this chance slip through your fingers. You might be unaware of the importance of current events; but your future is at stake. You must carefully consider the next step and start taking notes.

Spending on both travel/transportation and entertainment is likely. Running short on time may require you to 'delegate out duty' and trust some members, especially Virgo, Scorpio, Cancer and Sagittarius.

Mood: Eager and very 'expansive' oriented. Compatible signs: Scorpio, Virgo. Lucky colours: Turquoise and aqua. Lucky days: Sunday and Monday. Lucky numbers: 4, 8, 24, 50. Lucky Flower: Dahlia. Lucky gem: Pearl.

You are great to share the birthday with Mahatma Gandhi however, Boman Irani (October 2, 1962) actor and photographer was also born on this day. It was with Munnabhai MBBS that Boman became really popular. His busy film career has stagnated his theatre career but despite this, Boman continues to perform in theatre whenever possible. He has over 40 plays to his credit- around 15 of them as the lead character. His role as a comedic-villainous in Khosla Ka Ghosla and his negative shades in Don - The Chase Begins Again, and 3-Idiots are some of his memorable stints. Boman's series of numbers is two, four and eight. He will be on the top of his career in 2015.

The right chord

A still from Dharampatni The family saga fever that once upon a time, peaked on Indian television with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi just seems to grow stronger, with every soap opera and serial covering social issues. Moreover, the recent Anna Hazare movement against corruption has given an added boost to more innovative and meaningful social subjects for our drawing rooms. The latest to conquer hearts is Imagine TV's popular emotional saga Dharampatni; inspired from Mahatama Gandhi's life and times. The daily soap has found tremendous response from the audiences, especially housewives.

Weight lifting

Dolly Bindra, who entertained the viewers with her theatrics in the last season of Bigg Boss, was left a bit stunned at a recent awards function. Dolly, which is busy with Bollywood projects and in the process of finalising her shows, was shocked when actor Ranvir Singh lifted her on the stage. "Yes, you heard it right! It was unexpected. Trust me, it wasn't scripted. I was invited on the stage, and all of sudden, I was lifted. I know it is funny, but it was like one of those perfect romantic shots you have seen in
Bollywood flicks.

Sneak peek into the Bigg House

The various areas of the Bigg Boss house It's the time of the year when Bigg Boss returns on the small screen. We take a sneak peek into the Bigg Boss house, while most of you debate who the inmates are going to be.

Talk about chic

The luxury pad is spread over a 9,000 square feet area. From what we see, it looks bright, fashionable and frisky. Even though the housemates will be under the watchful eye of Bigg Boss, they are certainly going to live in style and comfort.

Dine in style

Mostly importantly, the dining room is where most of the drama happens! Keeping with the ever-chic sense of style in interior décor, the dining room looks lively and stylish. We hope that the white colour will maintain some peace.

Fancy a dip

The outdoor pool looks neat and has an abstract seating area. To keep the fitness quotient intact there is a treadmill and a gym bicycle. Surely, Bigg Boss is concerned about the fitness of its inmates!

Fear of confession

Like every story has two sides, confession room is where most of the revelations happen. The king size sofa chair will surely calm down contestants' fear of confession.

What's cooking?

The superbly designed open kitchen that is connected a dining room that extends to the garden area. The outdoor area has gained more prominence with the pool area, the activity area, the gymnasium and even the kitchen sink being placed there to irk the housemates. Look like the tolerance level of the contestants is going to be tested. And of course, arguments will erupt!

Bed or bird

After last year's drama involving a single bedroom for the house's 14 housemates, this year's house will again see two separate bedrooms with no differentiation for the sexes. But the best room is the captain's room. Honestly, the bed looks like a bird!

Back on track

Debina Bannerjee Debina Bannerjee will make a comeback to small screen with Chidiya Ghar, an unusual comedy on SAB TV. We broke the news that Garima Production's, makers of Ring Wrong Ring, are gearing up to create another venture for the same channel which will be called as Chidiya Ghar. To add to the ensemble, the production house has now approached Debina to play an important role in the show. The show will have a vast cast where each character will have a peculiar quality of an animal.

Shweta’s stage presence

Shweta Gulati, who made a mark by doing diverse characters on shows like Remix, Dill Mill Gayye and the latest Gili GilI Gappa, is keeping her acting skills rejuvenated by doing theatre these days. The actress has always chosen quality work over quantity and hence she has moved to the stage. It's been years since Shweta has been actively involved with theatre and now the actress is grooming for her next play which is yet to be titled. Shweta is doing a theatre show which will revolve around four characters.

Star Track

Bipasha's fond of PC

BipashaRecently in an interview when Bipasha was asked about one film she thinks she should have done, she simply said, "I really like Priyanka's work in most of her films. I am very fond of her. She's a fine actress. I am a PC fan," it's hard to see actresses bonding but this is a rare one.

Eager to experience

Bollywood film producer Mukesh Bhatt, who is one of the jury members of 13th Mumbai Film Festival (MFF), says he is looking forward to experience brilliance of world cinema in the event.

Bhatt, 59, is the judge of festival's Harmony Celebrate Age (HCA) section- which showcases ad-films, short fiction films, documentaries and feature length films - along with Khatta Meetha director Basu Chatterjee, Avantika Akerkar and Suhasini Mulay.

"I am going to go as an open minded person and let the brilliance of world cinema come into my consciousness, and then my heart and mind decide what is best.

"As a filmmaker one should sign up for any jury with an open mind. So I don't want to restrict myself and precondition my mind to look forward to anything in particular or any sort of favoritism. It is not fair to the film maker," Bhatt said. Commencing from October 13, the eight-day-long film extravaganza will see 10 films from across the world in HCA section. — PTI

Mirror image

Model and actress Pooja Batra is back to Bollywood and will be seen on-screen in Sagar Ballary's upcoming comedy film Hum Tum aur Shabana, playing herself!

Says the leggy lass, "Yes, I play myself in the movie. I am judging a pageant to select the next Miss India. The producers of the movie and the director Sagar Ballery wanted me to do the role as they thought it would be true to the character on-screen. Being a Miss India myself and having judged many Miss India pageants in real life, it was fun working with Tusshar, Shreyas, Minissha, Pia and Sagar. I had a great time hanging with all of them on the sets.

Yet another flick

Punit Malhotra, who made his debut as a director with I Hate Luv Stories with Sonam and Imran as lead, has now almost done with his second script and the buzz is that he has roped in Sonam Kapoor and Imran Khan once again.

Just friends

"Riteish is a great friend of mine, it's good to know someone right from the start of your career and he is a good friend," says Genelia when asked her about her relationship with Ritesh Deshmukh and whether they are in a relationship or not? Smart girl!

PC's admirer

First, it was Deepika Padukone, who Neil Nitin Mukesh raved about. Now it's the turn of Priyanka Chopra. Neil thinks that she is a brilliant performer and can carry a film on her own.

Rib-tickling moments
Sonam's favourite rom com is Deewana Mastana! With the release of Hum Tum Aur Shabana, a romantic comedy, we ask some of our Bollywood celebs which one is their favourite rom-com of all times. Here's what they had to say…

Daddy's girl

Sonam Kapoor: Breaking the Waves is my favourite rom-com. And then some great Woody Allen ones: Annie Hall, Manhattan, Bananas, John Hughes' Pretty in Pink, and some John Cusack classics: Grosse Point Blank, Better Off Dead, and my favourite — Say Anything. I am a great fan of rom-coms and among Bollywood I really liked Deewana Mastana that starred my dad and Govinda.

Comedy buff

Kareena Kapoor: I love comedy and enjoy a romantic angle to it. My favourite romantic comedy was Bridget Jones' Diary. I laughed my heart out. There are others like Adam's Rib, The Philadelphia Story, Pretty Woman, My Best Friend's Wedding and others.

Another good one

Minisha Lamba: You will love Hum Tum Aur Shabana. I bet it's one of the best rom-coms in the recent years. Apart from that I liked Hum Tum. And few of my all-time favourites include My Best Friend's Wedding, The Awful Truth, Love Actually, Bridget Jones' Diary and Local Hero.

Fun quotient

John Abraham: My favorite rom-com films are When Harry Met Sally, It Happened One Night and Love Actually. When it comes to Bollywood, I can think of Ajab Prem Ki Ajab Kahani and Chupke Chupke. I like the love chemistry between Amit ji and Jaya ji.

Hard to recall

Genelia D'Souza: Rom- com? Quite hard to think but I think recently I liked Wanted which is an action film but it has its share of laugh and a romantic angle in it. In Hollywood my favourite rom-com is High Fidelity and Four Weddings and A Funeral. That's what I can think of now.

Comic chemistry

Shahid Kapoor: Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani, Andaz Apna Apna are few of my favourite films. I was watching Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani the other day and really liked the chemistry between Kat and Ranbir in the film.

Clever definitions

Shah Rukh Khan: Munnabhai series are one of my favourite comedy films which has romantic angle too. I don't know the exact definition of rom-com because every film has its own romantic and comic touch. In Hollywood one of my favorite film is 500 Days of Summer-very playful.

SRK dances to Farah's tune

Looks like SRK and Farah Khan have buried the hatched. King Khan will be seen as a celebrity judge in the grand finale of her dance reality show Just Dance, which is judged by SRK's friend Hrithik Roshan. Looks like the old partnership will be back again.

Jai Maharashtra!

After finishing Reema Katgi's project with Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukerji will start shooting for Aaiya, her next film with South star Prithviraj. Aaiya is a romantic film where a Marathi girl falls in love with a South Indian. For the first time Rani will play a Maharashtrian.

Cold war

Prateik and Arya Babbar seem to seem to have developed cold vibes, once Prateik decided to drop Babbar from his name. Prateik and Arya are step-brothers and for the first time both the brothers will be clashing on-screen. Prateik's next movie My Friend Pinto and Arya Babbar's Azaan are releasing on the same day, October 14. While Prateik plays the lead actor in the Bhansali film, Arya has a character role.

Lucky finally

Ameesha Patel who made her debut in Kaho Na Pyaar Hain almost vanished after doing a few films. Though she has been spotted in events and parties, now finally she has bagged a new film opposite Neil Nitin Mukesh.

These days, we can see she is looking sexy and when asked her about her sex appeal, she said, "I know I am sexy. But being sexy is all about attitude, not body type. It's a state of mind.

To me, an intelligent girl with a positive attitude and a great smile is sexy... and she could well be wearing a salwar-kameez.

I am a forthright and hardworking girl." We hope to see some hard work in your upcoming movies too.

Ranveer gets candid

Although he is just a film old, Ranveer Singh is a very popular star. He gets candid about his co-star Anushka Sharma, fashion, colleagues, life and more.

We don't read much about you and Anushka? Are you guys no longer together?

Who said anything about us being together? We're friends and will always be friends.

You mean you guys never dated each other?

I wish it was true, but no I am not. She is very straight forward and ambitious. She is new, but when she is in front of the camera, she is like a pro. She concentrates on her work and is a beautiful person.

Tell us about the first time you met her…

It happened at YashRaj studios. I had seen her films and loved her in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. When I saw her, I started acting like a fan. She's 10 on 10 in person. She's stunning. I was totally mesmerised by her beauty.

We read somewhere that you were upset with the rumours of Anushka and Ranbir dating?

That's what I don't like about the media. They guess and assume and make stories. Why will I be upset if she dates anyone? I am not her parent. Anyway, since you've brought the subject out, there is no truth to the rumour.

Your link-up with Sonakshi…

I know. I read about that. Just because you're working with someone, it does not mean that you're dating them. I don't even know her that well.

Rumours suggest you guys have been offered a film together?

I have no idea about it.

One role you would have love to do?

Shahid Kapoor's role in Kaminey.

Biggest fashion faux pas of yours?

Apparently I make one at least once a week. Every time I end up styling myself I've made a faux pas. That's people's opinion but I think I look good. I believe if you are confident enough you can carry off anything.

You favourite style icon?

Amitabh Bachchan. He is my favorite actor too. I just look at him and think if at this age he can do so well, then can't I? He is an inspiration to everyone in this industry and I wish I can share screen with him sometime in future.

Who according to you is the sexiest actress in Bollywood?

I have worked with Anushka Sharma so I will say it's Anuhshka. You should wait to watch her in Ladies vs. Ricky Behl. The way Aki Narula has styled her is amazing. She's looking better than before. She's very hot.

An actress you would love to be linked with?

Scarlett Johanson. I am a big fan of her.

One thing you would change about yourself if you could?

I would like to have more control on my emotions.
