Miller ‘withholds’ 5,400 quintals of government rice
Fatehabad, October 1 The Food and Supplies Department had supplied 86 truckloads of paddy to this miller for its custom milling in September last year and according to the schedule; the miller was to supply the CMR to the FCI latest by March 31 this year. According to department sources, 20 consignments of the miller, totalling 5,400 quintals worth over Rs 1.25 crore, were rejected as these did not fulfil the agency’s specifications. However, the miller did not care to supply replacement for the rejected consignment, though the agency sent several notices for supply of the CMR. The Food and Supplies Department detected the shortage as the new procurement season of the paddy started today. The DFSC said he had written to the higher-ups for suitable action against the miller. Maruti workers agree to management terms
Gurgaon, October 1 Following several rounds of tripartite talks among representatives of the Maruti management, workers and state government functionaries, the over one-month standoff was finally resolved after a marathon meeting which ended around 3 am today. According to official sources, hectic negotiations took place at the meeting between the management men and agitating workers in the presence of Haryana Labour and Employment Minister Shiv Charan Lal Sharma, Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner PC Meena, Additional Labour Commissioner Nitin Yadav and other officials of the Labour Department. Finally, it was decided that the workers would observe holiday on October 1 (today) and resume duties according to their shifts from October 3 after signing the good-conduct bonds, as desired by the management. Both parties resolved that the management would revoke the termination orders of 15 workers issued between August 29 and September 15 and convert these orders into suspension orders on October 1. In this matter, action as per law will be initiated against them after conducting a fair and impartial enquiry, which will be acceptable to them. It was also decided that the services of the 18 trainees who were shown the door on August 29 and 30 after they supported the striking workers would also be resumed. According to the agreement, the 29 workers who were suspended between July 1 and September 17 will remain under suspension and charge-sheeted. An enquiry will be conducted against them and its decision will be acceptable to them. Abiding by the rule of “no work, no pay”, the workers will not be paid for the period of strike from August 29. In addition, their one-day pay will be deducted as penalty. It was also decided that all the workers would maintain discipline and not try to obstruct production individually or in groups. The management will also not adopt a vindictive attitude towards the workers. It was resolved that if any dispute erupts between them in future, it will be solved through bilateral talks and neither party will violate the fundamental rights of the other. |
Hisar Byelection
Hisar, October 1 He was addressing a meeting of his supporters at Uchana in Jind district today. Uchana is one of the nine Assembly segments that comprise the Hisar Lok Sabha seat. He said he had “endless” differences with Jai Prakash. However, in the party’s interests, he had set aside all the issues and decided to work for Jai Prakash’s victory. He said two persons could be at war with each other for years, but the war had to end somewhere. Birender Singh, who was defeated by former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala from Uchana in the 2009 Assembly poll by a narrow margin, said Uchana had backed the Congress in 1977, too, when he was elected from there despite the Janata Party wave. He asked his supporters to go from door to door, seeking votes for the Congress nominee. He said they should expose the INLD as well as the HJC-BJP combine, which he described as “opportunistic” parties. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Om Prarkash Chautala today toured several villages of the Narnaund Assembly segment, seeking votes for his son, Ajay Singh Chautala. |
Devi Lal varsity fails to start 1st batch of PhD courses
Sirsa, October 1 The subjects for which the university is yet to release the list of candidates selected for the PhD course are law and English while the Department of Public Administration is yet to interview the candidates, who have cleared the written tests conducted by the university. Even the lists of other departments were issued after an inordinate delay leading to a lot of harassment for the candidates. Sources attributed directions to the admission committees of various departments against issuing lists directly as a reason behind the delay. The sources revealed that a tug of war between the Department of Law and the Registration and Scholarship branch of the university was the reason behind the delay in the release of the list for the Law Department. The Registration and Scholarship Department returned the list sent by the Law Department with the remarks that the names of guides should be given along with the name of successful candidates. A teacher in the Law Department revealed, requesting anonymity, that the remarks were illogical as there was no sense in fixing the guide before the candidate passed the pre-PhD course. Allotting PhD scholars to a teacher enjoying extraordinary leave for the past over three years is the bone of contention between the university authorities and the department in the case of list of the English Department. Dr Raj Kumar Siwach, Chairperson of the department, said the university authorities fixed the dates of interview even before the meeting of the Post-Graduate Board of the department. He said the board met yesterday and had declared 21 candidates as ineligible. The dates of interview will now be fixed afresh by the university authorities, said Siwach. The CDLU has not been able to start its first batch of the PhD courses after the new guidelines of the UGC while the other universities of the state have already admitted two or three batches. |
