Strike called off

Members of the the LHV-ANM Action Committee called off their strike after their demands were fulfilled here today.
Stating this, Sneh Lata, district president of the committee, said: “The
Principal Secretary Health and representatives of the union held a meeting in
which it was decided to give us a daily diet allowance of Rs 20, uniform
allowance of Rs 6,000 per annum and washing allowance of Rs 300 per month.”

Four booked for seeking dowry

In yet another case of desertion by an NRI groom, an Australian resident has been accused of abandoning his wife, a local resident, after marriage.
The incident came to light when the Ludhiana (rural) police booked four persons, including victim’s husband, her mother-in-law, father-in-law and a woman relative of the groom’s family, for demanding dowry and causing unnecessary harassment to the girl, on her father’s complaint.
