PCA for tough action against three cops

Coming down heavily on two UT police Inspectors and a Sub-Inspector for not carrying out proper investigation in a case of property grabbing, the Police Complaint Authority (PCA) has ordered a fresh investigation into the case and recommended departmental action against the three police officers.

To make the Chandigarh-Ambala Highway accident-free zone, the GMR Expressways, the company undertaking the maintenance work of the highway had removed more than 50 hoardings in three-day anti-encroachment drive.

Hospital to raise funds for poor patients
Mohali, September 30
A dedicated fund will be raised for the treatment of poor patients suffering from cancer at Max Super Speciality Hospitals in Mohali and Bathinda. Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister, Punjab, stated this after inaugurating a 200-bed Max hospital here.

Limited night-time ATC services stalling international flights

Limited availability of night-time air traffic control facilities at the Chandigarh airport is one of the major reasons delaying the launch of the much-awaited international flights from the city. PCR staff lauded for honesty
Chandigarh, September 30
A UT police head constable and two constables were lauded by senior police officials for their honesty as they returned Rs 5,000 found in an abandoned bag to its owner. Head constable Raj Bhan, constable Vijender Singh and constable Sohan Singh while patrolling found an abandoned bag near the Sector 17 bus stand.

Woman falls off bus, dies
Ambala, September 30
Paramarjit Kaur (26), a resident of Dera village, fell down from a Haryana Roadways bus while boarding it at Naraingarh. She fell down from the bus and sustained injuries.

10-year term for drug peddling
Panchkula, September 30
A local court today awarded 10 years imprisonment to a Sector 9 resident Sohan Lal, under the NDPS Act. The case dates back to August 2010, when the Panchkula police had arrested Sohan Lal and recovered 10-kg opium worth Rs 5 lakh from his possession.

Five get 7-yr jail for causing death
Chandigarh, September 30
District and Sessions Judge SK Goel awarded seven-year imprisonment to five persons on the charges of causing death due to negligence. The case dates back to May 2008. The court awarded imprisonment to Talwinder Singh, Vikram, Balbir, Ajay and Bahadur, all residents of Sarangpur.

Man booked for damaging govt property
Zirakpur, September 30
The Zirakpur police today booked Prithpal Singh, a resident of Bhabat village, for allegedly entering the Pabhat Stadium after breaking the lock of the gate and damaging government property inside. A case has been registered on the complaint of the MC junior engineer.

PU flouts norms, fields ‘ineligible’ players in tourney

The sports department of Panjab University has flouted norms by fielding ‘ineligible players’ in the recently held inter-college football tournament. The matter came to the light during the final selection of inter-university football team, when it was found that three players Prabhdeep, Hardeeep and Jagjeet were declared unfit for the tournament.
