Two labourers hurt in roof collapse

Two labourers were injured when the roof of five dwelling units located in Kali Sarak area near Jodhewal Basti came crashing down upon them. The incident took place around 8 am here this morning, when the five dwelling units owned by Kapil and Sunil collapsed.

Notorious criminal nabbed
Ludhiana, September 3
The police has nabbed a “notorious” criminal who was allegedly behind a series of assault and carjacking incidents. The suspect, identified as Gurjot Singh
Khangura, alias Sherry, a resident of Vishal Nagar, is wanted by the Phagwara police in connection with an incident of carjacking.
PPCB issues notices to Mayor, MC Commissioner

The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has served notices to the Mayor, the MC Commissioner and the Superintending Engineer, Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Ludhiana, as the authorities concerned were still discharging effluents into Budha Nullah.
Jeans-clad female staffers ruffle Civil Surgeon

The newly appointed chief medical officer of Ludhiana, Dr Dalip Kumar, reportedly got irritated on Friday during his first meeting with his staff when he noticed some female employees dressed in “western” attire. According to sources, “Kumar issued verbal instructions to all present at the meeting to maintain office decorum and come in ‘Hindustani’ attire while avoiding ‘western’ dresses. He said this when he saw some female employees who had come to attend the meeting dressed in western clothes like jeans and tops."

Unemployed linemen hold rally, burn Chief Minister’s effigy

An effigy of CM Prakash Singh Badal was burnt in the city following protests by the Ludhiana unit of Unemployed Linemen Union for not releasing the merit list of recruitment of 5,000 linemen by Powercom and the Punjab Government. The protests have been held with arrests, strikes and fasts for a year by the union A counsel was held, but no merit list has been released so far. An effigy of the CM was burnt in Longowal by the union members in protest on August 20.

Three gas agencies fined Rs 3 lakh each

Lured by money, two fall prey to snatchers

Two persons fell prey to snatchers after they were told that currency notes were lying on the ground at Fountain chowk today. The snatchers snatched a purse containing Rs 1.25 lakh cash and gold jewellery and a bag containing Rs 20,000.

Country-made revolver recovered from hotel manager
Ludhiana, September 3
The Model Town police has recovered a .32 bore countrymade revolver and a toy pistol from a manager of a prominent restaurant and hookah bar located in the Sarabha Nagar main Market. The accused, identified as Jasdeep Singh alias Gagan alias Jassi, son of Ravinder Singh, resident of Akaalgarh village, was arrested following a tip off.
