Prosecution of Khanna stayed
: The Delhi HC has stayed the prosecution of former Sangrur legislator Arvind Khanna in a case instituted by the CBI with regard to violation of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. Atul Nanda, senior SC lawyer, said the court had passed the orders on August 24. The CBI had alleged that Khanna had received foreign remittances while he was a member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly without prior permission of the Central Government. 

Haryana official is BBMB member: Haryana Irrigation Department officer SL Aggarwal has been appointed as the Member (Irrigation) at the BBMB. Aggarwal's appointment comes over two months after the retirement of MK Gupta from the post.

Nod to gallery at Hussainiwala
: The Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned the mega development plan for the construction of a new visitor gallery at the Indo-Pakistan joint check post at Hussainiwala. The project would be completed at an estimated Rs 16.39 crore and the proposed gallery would be able to accommodate around 1,800 visitors on the Indian side of the check post.

School students win accolades:
20 students won prizes in various categories in an inter-school competition, "Mental and Speed Arithmetic Competition organised by NJ's brilliant Brain Abacus. A team of students also won first prize in the programme "Vaad Vivad." at Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar.

Blood donation camp to support Anna: SportKing India limited in support to Anna Hazare organised a blood donation camp today. On the occasion Raj Awasti Chairman said, "we are supporting Anna Hazre from the core of Heart. We want to communicate our feeling to government by donating the blood".

One held with heroin:
The police has arrested Balbir Singh, alias Beera, presently residing at Basti Jodhewal, Ludhiana, during a naka near Behloor Kalan village here and seized 50 gm of heroin from him. A case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him.

Tributes paid to Bansi Lal:
Rich tributes were paid to former Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal on his birth anniversary on Friday. Minister for Cooperation and Housing Satpal Sangwan, who was speaking at a function organised to mark the 85th birth anniversary of Bansi Lal at Charkhi Dadri, said Bansi Lal was a talented person who made untiring efforts for the development of the state.

Governor Jagannath Pahadia on Thursday prorogued the Haryana Vidhan Sabha. The Haryana Vidhan Sabha Secretariat has issued a notification to this effect.

Boy found dead in drain:
The district police recovered the body of Sangeet(12), alias Kala, of Rajakheri village, from a drain in Babarpur village, near here, on Thursday. The deceased had been missing since Wednesday evening. The victim’s parents said the boy’s maternal uncle, Sandeep, who resided in Kachroli village of the district, had taken the boy along on August 23. They accused Sandeep of having killed their son. The police has booked Sandeep 

ROHTAK
Double murder accused held: The police has arrested two accused in the double murder case of Sanghi village. According to SSP Satish Balan, the two accused, Ajay and Rajbir, were arrested at a naka near Jassia village on Wednesday. The motive behind the double murder was reported to be old enmity among various groups in the village. The victims, Narender and Satish, both aged around 25 years, were shot dead by the assailants when they were on their way to their fields on the night of August 18.

REWARI
UID centre : Karvy Data Management Services Limited has set up an Aadhaar enrolment centre at Maharana Pratap Chowk here. It will provide Unique Identification (UID) numbers to citizens here free of cost. The centre was inaugurated by TR Sharma, Commissioner, Gurgaon division, on Thursday.

Martoliya is US Nagar SSP: The Uttarakhand Government has transferred Dehradun SSP GS Martoliya to Udham Singh Nagar. He will replace GN Goswami, who was Commandant of the 31st Battalion of PAC, Rudrapur. Chamoli SP Anant Ram Chauhan has been made the Nainital SSP while Nainital SSP Mohan Singh Bangyal has been made the SP (Personnel), State Police Headquarters. Pauri SP Arun Kumar Joshi has been made the SP (CID) while Janmajaya Prabhakar, who was the SP (CID) has been made the Chamoli SP.

211 units of blood collected: The IMA Blood Bank, Uttarakhand, organised a voluntary blood donation camp at ICFAI University, Dehradun, on Friday. It was organised under the supervision of the MD Umang Sahai. A total of 211 units of blood were collected.

Ban orders at exam centres: Additional District Magistrate (administration) Archana Gaharwar has said that they would impose Section 144 on various examination centres, where the Uttarakhand Civil Court exam would be held on August 28.

State-level  awards: The District Social Welfare office has decided to constitute state-level awards for the best physically challenged employees, self-employed youth and placement officers. The deserving persons would get Rs 5,000 and a commendation certificate.

Plea to check erosion of fertile land: Residents of various villages in Udham Singh Nagar have demanded immediate steps to check the erosion of fertile tracts of land by various rivers flowing through the district. They said not only are the rivers washing away tracts of lands, they are also posing a danger to residential areas of various villages located on their banks. Residents of Dohri village in the Sitarganj area and Mahtosh village in the Gadarpur area have already handed over a memorandum to the district administration on this issue. They said preventive measures taken by the Irrigation Department wee not serving any purpose.

BSP leader arrested with countrymade pistol: The Rudrapur police have arrested a man said to be a senior functionary of the BSP for possessing a countrymade pistol and five cartridges. According to reports, Shishupal Yadav was intercepted by a police team following a tip-off when he was on his way from Bhadaipura to the SIDCUL hub. He was nabbed outside the court premises. He has been booked under the the Arms Act.

Villagers gherao MLA in US Nagar: Residents of Bhud village in the Khatima area of Udham Singh Nagar district are agitated over the failure of the administration to address their demand for the construction of a road. Irked, villagers gheraoed local legislator Gopal Singh Rana. They said despite having assured them of the construction of the road, the legislator had not done anything concrete for its execution. The residents say that 300 families are facing problems in the absence of a road connecting their village to the main road. They have also threatened to launch an agitation at the residence of the legislator if work on the proposed road did not commence within a month.

Tent house owner murdered in Nainital: The murder of a tent house owner in the Betalghat area, Nainital, has sent shock waves through the area. According to sources, Kewlanand Belwal Aamdali Tok (42) was murdered on late Wednesday night. According to sources, the victim was travelling towards Betalghat with one Chandan Goswami in the latter’s vehicle. The duo allegedly had a spat over some issue. After sometime, the body of Tok was found. On Thursday, residents of the village created a scene at the Betalghat police station demanding the arrest of Goswami. It is learnt that Goswami has been arrested. Further investigations are on.
