MC officials caught napping once again

The sheer inefficiency of municipal corporation officials was on display again on Wednesday when it became clear they had not properly planned the visit of a three-member Leicester city council delegation to the city. First a meeting which the team was to hold with functionaries of the MC’s bridges & roads (B&R) department was postponed and later a visit to the indoor stadium construction site on Pakhowal Road was also deferred.

Snakes rattle morning walkers

Morning walkers at the Rose Garden, which is situated in the heart of the city, are a worried lot these days. Residents alleged that during their morning walks, encountering snakes have become a regular feature these days.
They have alleged that the reason for this is the callous attitude of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation officials, who are not mowing grass, which acts as a safe haven to the snakes in this monsoon season.
Auto-part makers seek fiscal sops to stay afloat

The industry feels it is high time the Punjab government comes out with suitable fiscal and promotional policies for this sector to ward off imminent closure of a large number of units or relocation to other states.

Activists flay repression of agitating farmers

Lambasting the government for repression let loose against farmers agitating against forcible acquisition of 166-acres in Gobindpura village under Mansa district, as many as six trade unions have threatened to join the stir if the state government persisted with the policy of snatching away agricultural land and failed to provide justice to the farmers.
