Now, Rao Inderjeet questions land acquisition policy
Gurgaon, July 31 AICC general secretary in charge of Haryana affairs BK Hariprasad could not help commenting on the coming together of the titans considered opposed to each other. During his address, he exhorted the Congress men and others in the gathering to work cohesively. He supported Rao Inderjeet’s demand for the constitution of Gurgaon Development Authority (GDA) and promised to make efforts to get it fulfilled. Congress MP and co-in charge of Haryana affairs Tara Chand Bhagora congratulated Rao Inderjeet for the success of the rally and for his efforts in getting party-supported candidates made Mayor and his deputies. The rally had been organised to felicitate the Congress-supported Mayor, his team and councillors of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG). Coming down heavily on the state leadership, he pointed out that a development plan for the Gurgaon area had been made till 2032, which meant that a major chunk of agricultural land would be acquired by then. The MP questioned the motive behind mitigating the agricultural land of the area and demanded that at least the wards of the landowners on whose land industries were coming up should be given jobs in those, making them partners in progress. He urged the party’s central leaders, present on the occasion, to back the demand of South Haryana’s people for the setting up of a state/regional university here. Rao Inderjeet lamented that Gurgaon contributed nearly 50 per cent revenue to the state exchequer, but it lagged way behind even in development of basic civil infrastructure and other public amenities. |
Gurgaon MP, Capt Yadav bury the hatchet
Chandigarh, July 31 Though there had been a growing talk of improved relations between the two over the last few months that the ice had thawed was evident when Rao Inderjeet Singh extended an invitation for the “samman rally” to Capt Yadav and the latter accepted it. The two leaders are very upbeat about this “new found love” and maintain that it will be to the advantage of southern Haryana as also to the Ahirwal belt, which has not been given its due in the past. Rao Inderjeet Singh told TNS that this “friendship” would benefit the entire southern region. “We have decided to sink all our differences and clear the air of any misunderstanding of the past to move ahead and give our region a voice so that development can flow in,” he stated. Maintaining that all projects, which had so far come to southern Haryana were essentially centrally sponsored, he said the two leaders were keen on getting a share in the state-sponsored projects as well. Underplaying the animosity and cold war between him and Yadav, the MP said all that was behind them. Capt Yadav confirmed after the rally that the “misunderstandings” that divided the two leaders in the past were over and they stand united now. |
Teachers not to retire in mid-session
Jhajjar, July 31 She said teachers would now retire at the end of the session on March 31. Teachers whose retirement was scheduled in the middle of the session would be reemployed till the end of the academic session. Besides, the quality of midday meal was being improved and the government had provided gas burners and pressure cookers in schools to provide fresh and nutritious food to students. Bhukkal said the government had released Rs 6 crore as interest on the outstanding various social security pension dues like old-age allowance, pension to widows and destitute women, cash assistance to destitute children and eunuchs and allowance to Kashmiri migrants. She said commerce and science classes were being started in 10+1 and 10+2 schools where at least 60 students wanted to study these subjects. “These streams will be started in 300 such schools from this session. The District Education Officers have been directed to take the services of retired science and mathematics teachers on a prescribed honorarium,” said

Move to tighten drug rules will misfire: Chemists
Chandigarh, July 31 An organisation of the chemists has given a call for a bandh tomorrow. However, the Haryana State Chemists and Druggists Association (HSCDA) has decided not to participate in the bandh to avoid inconvenience to patients. But the HSCDA is as much opposed to the move as the All-India Chemists and Druggists Federation (AICDF), which has given the bandh call. A member of the executive committee of the All-India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD), Sanjiv Goyal, said here today that the move would not serve its stated purpose and would affect the availability of life-saving antibiotics to a large section the population severely. The HSCDA is affliated with the AIOCD. President of the HSCDA Ramesh Khurana said his organisation appreciated the government’s concern over the misuse of antibiotics. But it was equally concerned about the implementation and impact of the government’s move. He said the government had framed Schedule HX following reports of super bug but it had not addressed the main cause of misuse of antibiotics and had found a scapegoat in the chemists. Schedule HX has put 16 antibiotics in Part A to be supplied directly by the manufacturers to tertiary care hospitals. Part B has 74 drugs and formulations, which can be sold by the chemists against the prescription of a registered medical practitioner (RMP) in duplicate. A copy of the prescription is to be retained by the chemists for two years. Any chemists violating the law would be punished with a fine up to Rs 20,000 and/or imprisonment of two years. Goyal said the government had not taken into account various factors like unavailability of RMPs in rural areas. Even the President of India admitted in her speech at a Medical Council of India function that most of the doctors were unwilling to work in the rural areas. Similar observations were made by the Supreme Court in the Subhsakhi case. |
Non-screening of ‘Khap’ film in Haryana
Karnal, July 31 The film could not be screened in Haryana cinema halls as the owners feared violence and, in fact, it was the failure of the government to provide adequate security and instill confidence among the theatre owners, Seema said, for whom life has come to a halt. “This is another glaring example of high-handedness of powerful khap leaders that the government is afraid of taking any action against them and the people can well understand what will be the fate of young lovers in their hands,” she lamented. Seema said the khap leaders were arguing that the screening of the film would tarnish the image of khaps and added that they were themselves sullying their image by not allowing screening of the film by openly issuing threats. “They talk of traditions and culture but why don’t they oppose screening of vulgar films which are destroying our culture. Instead they are targeting a film like ‘Khap’ based on a relevant social theme,” she said. The producer of the film has demonstrated courage in exposing the “truth” behind “khaps and honour killings” but the khap leaders did not want the youth to know the truth, she added. Accusing the leaders of amassing wealth, she said they had no time to look into the problems of the people and added that it was unfortunate that the “mindset” of the people had not changed. Construction of roads and bridges and other developmental works would not ensure dignity and security of people and change in the old mindset was required to stop honour killings, she observed. Chandrapati, widowed mother of Manoj, said the killing of Manoj and Babli had been shown in the film and everyone should see it. “Non-screening of the film in Haryana is failure of law and order and has exposed how powerful the khaps are and how helpless the government is in dealing with them.” |
2 youths shot dead in Rohtak market
Rohtak, July 31 The accused is reported to have been well known to the victims and is stated to have a dispute over the property business with them. The police has booked a case but no arrest has been made so far. According to police sources and eyewitnesses, the incident took place around 10.30 am when three youths, riding a motorcycle, reached the market in connection with some work. Panic erupted after cries and gunfire shots as one of the youths, who was later identified as Naveen and who was riding pillion on the mobike, took out a revolver all of a sudden and opened fire on the other two, Virender Kumar and Sashi Kant, identified as his friends and partners in a property business, said the police. The fire was opened from a close range and both the victims died before they could be taken to the PGIMS hospital. While Virender hailed from Bhaini Chanderpal village in the Meham subdivision, Sashi Kant belonged to Ghillaur village of the district. The accused, Naveen, has been a resident of a locality on the Jind road here. The trio had been well known to one another and had shares in a property business for the past several months. Naveen appears to have been nursing a grudge against them over a matter related to work, said the district police chief, Satish Balan. Though Naveen managed to flee, we will arrest him soon, said Balan. Ashok, brother of Virender, told the police that there could be a dispute over share in a property among them and the accused had a verbal spat and arguments with his brother in the recent past and this could be the main reason behind this cold-blooded double murder. |

May 17 accord not kept, alleges teachers’ body
Kurukshetra, July 31 A delegation led by president Pradeep Chauhan and general secretary Attar Singh called on MS Chopra, principal OSD to the Chief Minister, and submitted a memorandum to the CM, seeking his intervention. An emergency meeting of the HFUCTO state executive would be convened shortly to draw up a strategy to get the pending demands accepted, Prof Pradeep Chauhan said. The government representatives had agreed to implement all demands on May 17 last but the July 20 notification was a gross violation of the agreement, he asserted. The major issues involved were advance increments at the entry level as per UGC recommendations for higher educational qualifications like PhD/ M.Phil/M.Tech /LLM, creation of posts of professor in colleges, pay fixation of directly recruited readers and a lecturer’s selection grade as per UGC norms, minimum pay of Rs 43,000 to directly recruited professors and raising the retirement age to 65 years, as recommended by the UGC. The federation leaders rued the delaying tactics and piecemeal approach adopted by the government and said even after two-and-a-half years the demands of university and college teachers had not been accepted. |
Poor Condition of Ratauli Road
Yamunanagar, July 31 Springfield Public School is located on the Ratauli road, just 1 km from the bypass and the mini-secretariat. Thousands of students, staff and parents ply a minimum of twice a day to the school. The road is dotted with pits. The road running from the main road to Ratauli village has seen an increasing number of accidents because of poor maintenance. It is in such a bad condition that it is unsafe for both pedestrians and drivers. Veena Chopra, Principal of the school, said she was upset at the condition of the road, adding that the management and the school supported the villagers in their agitation for the reconstruction of the road. She alleged that it was due to gross negligence on the part of the administration that the situation had assumed such proportions. The request to reconstruct the road had been made numerous times but, so far, nothing had been done. A member of the school staff said this and many other roads were full of potholes. When it rained, the potholes were filled with muddy water that was splashed over children passing by. They had to go home and change clothes. Some returned late, missing classes, and some did not turn up at all. |
Cut-off date for job applicants’ age mixed up
Rohtak, July 31 This has been claimed by Subhash Lamba, General Secretary of the Sarv Karamchari Sangh, Haryana (SKS) in a letter written to the department. The authorities concerned ought to rectify the mistake and insert a corrigendum immediately, he added. In the communication addressed to the Technical Education Minister, Haryana, and the Director, Technical Education, Lamba has highlighted that while the advertisement bearing number 1/2011 mentions the age of applicants as not less than 21 years and not more than 40 years, adding that the cut off date has been given as August 1, 2010, while it ought to have been August 1, 2011, as the advertisement has been given recently and not in the past year. If the cut-off date of last year was considered, then a large number of candidates who would be attaining the age between the period of August 1 last and this year would be denied a chance to apply for the posts. He said a large number of applicants fell in this category and they and their parents had approached the offices of the department concerned but no proper assurance had been given or step taken so far to remove the grievance or the glaring mistake at the level of the clerical staff. It is added that this lacuna had been present in the advertisement posted for recruitment against the above posts for the government polytechnic at Manesar of Gurgaon district. A copy of the complaint in this regard has been sent to the Chief Minister, the Financial Commissioner and the Secretary of Technical Education, Haryana. |

However, some of the families close to the family of Jai Tirth, who is also an original resident of this village, tried to get the dharna postponed, saying that some solution to the issue could be found without staging a dharna but it was not agreed to by other villagers, said the samiti convener, Virender, while talking to The Tribune. Virender said that about 282 acres of land of the villagers was acquired in November 2005 and the award of the acquisition amount was announced in February 2006.
