2 teenaged boys feared drowned in canal
Ludhiana, July 15
Two teenaged youths were feared to have drowned after falling into the Sidhwan Canal near the city’s BRS Nagar locality on Friday. The victims have been identified as Ramji, 18, and Pankaj, 17.

Year later, new rupee sign still to catch on

A year after being officially adopted by the government, the Indian rupee symbol does not appear to have made much headway in the city, at best making the occasional symbolic appearance. Virtually all residents as well as most banks, industrial and trading bodies continue to use the traditional ‘Rs’ sign and the new symbol the symbol is still not available on PC and laptop keyboards.

15 business houses under IT scanner

Sleuths of the Income-Tax Department swooped on a city-based manufacturer of tyres and electrical appliances as also steel rolling mills in Mandi Gobindgarh yesterday to detect undisclosed income. The raids, on a total 15 business premises of the companies and residential premises of their directors, which commenced early morning yesterday were continuing till the filing of this report.

It seems that there is no end to the woes of Sunet residents. After a liquor vend and two rooms constructed illegally in a park were demolished by the Ludhiana municipal corporation (MC) officials a few days ago, the vend’s owner has now put up tents adjoining another liquor vend, which touches one side of the park.
