Traffic cops zero in on underage driving
Chandigarh, July 13
Following its unique initiative of punishing drunk drivers by “imprisoning” them in court, the city traffic police has now begun stringent checks on driving by minors, adopting a similar approach. A total of 40 minors were ‘challaned’ (fined) for driving on Wednesday and the police will seek imprisonment of the vehicles’ registered owners (mostly the minors’ parents) from courts to act as a deterrent.

Student injured in eye as teacher hurls pencil at him

In an outrageous incident, a science teacher at the city’s New Public School in Sector 18 hit a class VIII student in the eye with a pencil on Wednesday. Umesh, a hosteller at the school, left the classroom with a bleeding eye after the teacher, Sanjeev Kumar, who was sitting at his desk, threw a pencil aimed at the boy’s eyes.
