The city can now boast of having the country’s biggest wax museum and the region’s first that has come up near the tiger safari on the Ludhiana-Jalandhar highway. Spread over 2,000 square yards, it houses wax sculptures in a covered area of 500 square yards. For 75-year-old Chander Shekhar Parbhakar, a local businessman and amateur wax sculptor, the museum is like a dream come true.

Lightening hit a house at Raipur Araian village, 3 km from here, during the first monsoon showers in the wee hours today and burnt an air conditioner, smashed the windowpanes and damaged the walls and roof of a house.

A brief spell of pre-monsoon showers, and then the coming of the monsoon ahead of schedule, has thoroughly exposed the tall claims of the Municipal Corporation (MC) and the senior functionaries of the government who have been making tall claims of making the mega city nothing less than “California”.

3.65 lakh get polio drops

Health and family welfare minister Satpal Gosain began the drive by administering polio drops to children residing at Kidwai Nagar. Dr HS Bali, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, said about 1,603 teams were constituted to administer polio drops to kids of those working in brick kilns and living in outskirts.

Railways to improve amenities, hygiene
Ludhiana, June 26
Authorities of the Northern Railways have initiated several steps to bring about a qualitative improvement in passenger services and amenities at all railway stations under Ferozepur division, including the one in Ludhiana. The Railways intend to give a new look to the main railway stations and assign special staff to address day today problems of commuters. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Northern Railway) MM Singh, who was in the city to inspect various facilities at railway station, stated this yesterday evening.
