The local police on Sunday rescued 14 children who were being reportedly taken to Manali to work as bonded labourers and arrested two people at the Interstate Bus Terminus in Sector 17 on charges of human trafficking.

 A muddy road has made it difficult for residents to venture out of their houses at Saini Vihar, Baltana, in Zirakpur. First monsoon showers wreaked havoc in Mohali district as the local administration failed to make pre-arrangements to counter the problems arising out of the downpour.

Pulse polio campaign hit
Chandigarh, June 26
Polio drops being administered to a girl in Chandigarh on Sunday. Rain played spoilsport on the first day of a three-day pulse polio campaign here today. Only 36,515 children could be administered polio drops today. The figure is just 58 per cent of number of children administered the vaccine in the first round of the last campaign in March.

Air Force soldier killed in accident

A 32-year-old Air Force soldier was killed when his motorcycle was hit by a tipper coming from the opposite direction near Ghaggar late last night.

Three of family booked for fraud

Three persons, including a woman have been reportedly booked in an alleged fraud case worth Rs 42.5 lakh.Manit Singh, a resident of Gola village, Ambala district, lodged a complaint with the police that he had purchased an eight marla plot and had paid Rs 42.5 lakh to three members of a family- Om Parkash, Sukhdev Singh and their mother Kanta Devi, residents of Saini mohalla.

HC: Delay in payment of interim amount can attract penalty
Chandigarh, June 26
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked judicial officers in Punjab, Haryana and the UT (Chandigarh) to ensure that the interim amount handed out in matrimonial and other disputes is paid by the 10th of every month. In case of consecutive defaults, a penalty of up to 50 per cent of the monthly amount can be imposed.

Attempted murder; one booked
Zirakpur, June 26
The police today booked an unidentified person on charges of attempt to murder on the complaint of Varun Mehta, a resident of Panchkula.The police official stated that the incident occurred when the complainant Varun was moving towards Panchkula from Patiala. While he reached near Lucky dhaba, an SUV hit his car from the rear side. He went out from his car to the check the situation, where the unidentified person allegedly put a pistol on his temple.

Panchkula, June 26 Avinash, a resident of Kala Amb (Himachal Pradesh), alleged that some unidentified persons forcibly took away his Swift car near Khangsera village near Barwala block on the National Highway no 73 late last night.

4 vehicles stolen in 24 hours

Despite the arrest of various gangs adept at lifting motor vehicles from the city, another four vehicles were reportedly stolen in the city in the last 24 hours. Thieves continue to be on the prowl in the city as three vehicles were stolen during daytime.
