Online NOTES
More and more Punjabi singers are releasing their music videos online, as they know it is the need of the hour
Jasmine Singh

It was then…fans would eagerly wait for the release of Gurdas Maan’s tape (colloquial name for a cassette in Punjab) and later on for his CD. A corner on the shelf was dedicated to the cassettes and CDs of singers, out of which
most of them were recorded ones.

It was then…downloads, free, easy and accessible. is the answer to music fans’ search now. We wouldn’t make much of a hue and cry about it, if the phenomenon was restricted to downloads. But here is something new, apparently new for Punjabi music industry - singers releasing their music online. The need and necessity to cut albums, one after the other is not the issue now. Punjabi singers have taken a detour to the world of technology and they know it is the need of the hour.

If figures can help validate, this is what we have - Punjabi music industry has registered a decrease in the number of CDs being rolled out by almost 4 per cent. “For Punjabi music industry, this is a big number,” says Jasbir Jassi the first singer to release a track online - Allah Hu. “This is for music lovers who expect something new from us every time. It takes time, energy and money to put together an album, and before it hits the market people are already listening to it on their I-pods, thanks to downloads.”

Umpteen websites offering music tracks and albums, free to sue sites, Internet radio, online video channels or subscription models… who needs to buy music CDs these days! Punjabi singer Amrinder Gill wants to exclusively release his music online. “I wish to do that soon. Online music is the trend and we have to follow it. I don’t see any harm in it, as most singers are following this trend. It doesn’t require the whole drill of cutting an album, and it is also the best way of reaching out to music lovers.”

Music director Sachin Ahuja, on the other hand, sees it as a popularity gimmick. “Who is buying music online? This is just a simple way to become popular. In fact, online music has affected our industry in a big manner. Only if people buy music online, can I agree that this is a good trend,” he says.

A slight hitch from one-odd quarter doesn’t reverse the upcoming trend though. Singers from the somewhat old school do not dismiss this trend as well. Labh Janjua, and Kamal Heer too can’t stay away from the trend for long. “I have to do it soon because this is a good way of reaching out to singers,” says Labh. The benefits, if any? “Of course we would get royalty from the companies, what else do you expect,” he adds. Good music, online or otherwise! jasmine@tribunemail.com

Our own warrior!
Survinder Singh, a gatka expert, has made it to the 15 finalists’ list of upcoming talent reality show Shooting Stars
Ashima Sehajpal

Ten years back, it was Khushboo Kochar who began the trend when she made it to the final of Channel V’s pop music group. What followed was a horde of youngsters representing Chandigarh on national TV channels and the best example is that of ‘Roadies’.

In the season VI of the show, there were as many as four youngsters from Chandigarh, which was the maximum from a single city. Then came other reality shows, affording opportunities to more city people. And another one off the block is Survinder Singh. This class XII student has made it to the 15 finalists list of upcoming talent reality show on Disney channel, Shooting Stars. Excited about making it to the show, Survinder says, “It’s a dream come true. I never thought that my talent in the Sikh martial art of ‘gatka’ will be appreciated by the judges.”

To begin with, he was a bit apprehensive considering the fact that it’s only popular forms like dancing, singing and acting that are encouraged on reality shows. “People are not even aware of the traditional martial arts that exist in our country,” says Survinder on how he can contribute through a reality show. Trained by his father, he has also won several competitions at the state and national level. “But nothing like a reality show, which can popularise the traditional art form of India. If I can just make people aware that such an art form exists in India, the effort will be worth its while.”

A student of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Public School, Survinder says it was also his school that encouraged him to take up martial arts seriously. “I now aim to popularise this Sikh martial art further by taking it to different cities. I plan to tie-up with various schools and perform there, so that students are inspired to take it up.”
A true Sikh martial arts follower!

SUCCESS MANTRA
Give your best always...
…says architect Namita Satnam who tackles a single-room project & a residential school with equal concern
Mona

“I wanted to do something in life,” says architect Namita Satnam, sitting pretty in her living room that overlooks the pool and a mural that gives an impression of a world beyond! Namita, in her architectural practice, has several prestigious projects to her credit — townships, residential settlements, entertainment centres, hotels, and resorts etc, both in the country as well as abroad. Architecture was not the obvious choice, shares Namita, as we take a journey back in time with her.

“Our parents brought us up as independent career-oriented girls,” she recalls. With no interest in the medical field, she opted for non-medical and topped the merit list for engineering and architecture. “Architecture sounded new and exciting so I took it up,” says Namita. With just three girls in a class of 30, Namita never felt any different than a man in college or practice. “I was lucky that I got to work with my late husband who was already in field,” she recalls.

Namita won many prestigious projects through competitions. She has done Congress Bhavan, on Madhya Marg; 150 acres of Dashmesh Academy near Anandpur Sahib; Welham Girls, Dehradun; Yadavindra Public School, Patiala and Naval Academy in Kerala.

“There was this huge hospital project for Navy in Mumbai that had lots of heritage sites around. They held a competition and I won it,” says Namita, who used a canopy of bridges to meander through sites and not disturbing any of them. She won Naval Academy in a two-stage competition in which top-notch architects of India participated. “It’s a township spread around in 2,500 acres. It was quite a challenge to strike a balance between nature and the needs of a naval base,” says Namita .

Did she feel intimidated in this man-dominated field? “Strangely, I did not. Maybe due to our upbringing, I felt no different than a man. But, yes, down the years, I did feel that men are not comfortable with strong women. So, one tends to be aggressive to ensure that your stance is taken seriously.”

Namita, with more than four decades in the profession, has slowed down her pace now. “I am not competing anymore. Only doing select, my kind of work,” says Namita, who takes designing a basement or a residential school with equal concern.

She shares what she considers paves the way for success in life

Work as pleasure: Rewards double if you like your work. I have enjoyed my long working hours immensely. Sometimes, those close to me would feel bad, but I enjoyed each moment of it.

Courage of conviction: If you want to succeed, you must have self-belief. Don’t get deterred or swayed by others.

Single-minded devotion: It helps to have a clear aim. Just like Arjuna, focus on your goal.

See good in everyone: This is one policy that works the best when dealing with people. Walk your talk.

Give the very best: Don’t settle for anything but the very best from you. Let not anyone dissuade you from this, be firm.

Actors we miss

Though actors on television might have a short shelf life and they might be out of sight, out of mind, but there are few actors who make a permanent place in our hearts and even if they aren't on the small screen, we yearn to see them. Here's taking a look at few daily soap actors we miss on television today.

Shveta Tiwari

With Balaji's Kasauti Zindagii Kay, Shveta Tiwari gained popularity as she established herself in the role of Prerna. After 8 long years, Kasauti ended in 2008, and Shveta was seen in a daily soap, dance reality shows as judge and contestant Nach Baliye, in the reality show Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao, while ultimately she won the fourth season of the reality television show Bigg Boss winning 1 crore. Shveta has also been active in Bollywood and Bhojpuri cinema along with turning producer of Bhojpuri films and television serials. She does appear in Comedy Circus Ke Taansen but we can't get enough of this sizzling actress who lights up the screen with her presence.

Cezanne Khan

He was the love of Prerna's life in Balaji's Kasauti Zindagii Kay but even before the show ended, handsome dude Cezanne Khan had quit the show. Later he went on to doing numerous shows like Sony TV's Ek Ladki Anjaani Si, The Good Health Show on Zee TV and NDTV Imagine's Seeta Aur Geeta, even few Pakistani TV serials - Piya Ke Ghar Jaana Hai and Silsilay Chahat Ke but never again did he surpass the fame of his character Anurag Basu. With his charm and personality, we are sure he can charm his way into the hearts of the audiences again. Come on, Cezanne.

Gauri Pradhan

It was her pairing with her now husband Hiten Tejwani in Balaji's Kutumb, that shot her to fame. Talented actress Gauri went on to do numerous shows Naam Gum Jayega, cameos in Kya Haadsa Kya Haqueeqat but it was her role as Nandini in Balaji's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2004 that etched her in the history on Indian television. Her last appearance was in Left Right Left in 2008 as the next year her twins Nevaan and Katya were born and she seems to have given up acting for good.

Harshad Chopra

Harshad Chopra started his career with small roles Zee TV's Mamta, Left Right Left and Amber Dhara. But playing the lead in Balaji's Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil catapulted him into instant fame. Once it ended, he was back with Balaji's Tere Liye on Star Plus. Tall smart and handsome, Harshad has numerous fans who keep urging him to return to television. Wonder if he will listen to them or does he have other plans.

Arjun Bijlani

Cool guy Arjun Bijlani began his career with modelling and went on to do music videos. His acting break happened with a cameo in Remix and later a full fledged role in Left Right Left. The role of Aalekh earned him accolades as he displayed his acting skills. Next came his role as Mayank in Mile Jab Hum Tum which turned him into the darling of the masses. He was last seen in Pardes Mein Mila Koi Apna and is currently looking for a cool role.

Smriti Irani

Smriti Irani will probably be called Tulsi all her life as it was the role of a lifetime for a newcomer like Smriti which brought name, fame and success at her doorsteps. Playing Tulsi Virani in the super successful soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Smriti has never looked back. She joined politics in 2003, and even turned TV producer with Ugraya Entertainment. She acted and produced Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan, Virrudh, Mere Apne, Waris, and later in a comedy show Maniben.Com on Sab TV. But none could touch Kyunki's success. Off late she focuses on her family, few plays and her political career. We sure miss her damdar performance on telly.

Shilpa Anand

Sweet, sexy and cute - these adjectives describe Shilpa Anand aptly. Though she started her career with movies, she rose to fame with her television series Dill Mill Gaye in the role of Dr. Riddhima Gupta. She even won awards for the same but left the show once her contract ended. She made a comeback on public demand but in another role altogether.

Karan Wahi

Cute and charming Karan Wahi grew popular with her role of Ranveer Sisodia in hit show Remix. Later he did shows like Mere Ghar Aayi Ek Nanhi Pari and even Dill Mill Gayye.

Perfect couple: Vivian and Vahbbiz!!

Vivian D'sena and Vahbbiz Dorabjee might have few scenes together on their television serial Star One's Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani, but that hasn't kept them apart. Vivian and Vahbbiz ensure to spend quality time together. Commenting about his relationship with Vahbbiz, Vivian says, “Vahbbiz and I are together and she is really very special to me. I like her for who she is as she's not a fake person and instead very real and genuine!" They have lots in common. Both have VD as their initials and both are born on the same dates on 28th. They both love Rajasthani food and have common love for sports too.

“Vivian is very special for me! Apart from being a fantastic actor, Vivian is a clean-hearted person and a very genuine human being!" quips Vahbbiz. Well, looks like Vivian and Vahbbiz are surely in love with each other.

Gold awards promote national integration

The Gold awards took place on Saturday where the highlight of the evening was a skit which emphasised on national integration and fostered brotherhood between various religions like Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism etc. It was performed by Karttika Sengar, Iqbal Khan, Vivian D'sena, Jai Thakkar and Samay Shah. The skit ended with all the five actors coming together to do a finale act by performing to the national anthem Jana gana mana.

Fooling around

Ajay Devgn is famous in B-town for the innumerable pranks that he has played on his co-stars, directors and other crew members. This time around his target was his pretty co-star Kajal Aggarwal from Singham. News is that on one of the days of the movie's Goa schedule, the actor told the naive Kajal to thrash goons for a particular scene. He made her believe that she was a modern day heroine and handed over a belt to lash out at the goons.

Unaware of the actor's antics, the southern beauty innocently went ahead and gave the shot, with Ajay quipping Maro Maro in the background to encourage her! It was only later when the entire unit started laughing that the petite actress realised what she had fallen prey to and how the camera wasn't actually rolling. The embarrassed actress then went around apologising to all the people she had beaten up. Despite all the pranks, Kajal swears that she couldn't have got a better co-star and admired Ajay Devgn for his work and professionalism. — HRM

What’s in a name!

Ashish Chowdhury's drag queen character in Double Dhamaal has been modified. His character is called Barbara Hori and the surname is obviously offensive to Mexican hottie Barbara Mori, of Kites fame. The name has been changed to Barbara Gori. — HRM

Get well soon

Shah Rukh Khan may not perform at the IIFA awards this year because his knee is giving him problems and he has been advised rest. The intense shooting of Ra.One has consequently given him knee problems. We wish him a speedy recovery.

All is well

We have heard that Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan have been having fights over finances and their busy schedules around the globe. Kareena has dismissed the rumours.

No sequel for vidya

Vidya Balan won many awards for Ishqiya but she will not be seen in the sequel. Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi will take the legacy forward and fall in love with two different girls. Madhuri Dixit might be the leading lady.
Not again: Vidya Balan

Aishwarya charms Chantilly

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the centre of attention at the 162nd edition of the Prix De Diane in Chantilly. Her peach embellished dress from the Elie Saab Spring 2011 collection matched her sophisticated hat and Aishwarya's entry matched her regal outfit - she was brought on to the race course in a carriage just like the Queen of England had marked her arrival 35 years ago in 1976!

Her style statement created quite a stir amongst the international and national fashion world. One of the fashion wrote, "The actress who is always the picture of high glamour, this time too turned many heads with her unique fashion sense at the event. The star was looking breathtaking and highly sophisticated."

Another French website called Aishwarya's look divine, adding, "The L'Oreal ambassador has dazzled the Cannes Film Festival and has once again revealed her beauty in France." Last year Aishwarya was spotted in a completely different look at the Ascots in England. Her dress suit had created as much a stir then as her summery look has this year.

Tom Cruise rocks

Actress Julianne Hough, who is opposite Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise in Rock of Ages, feels that the actor has done astonishing work in the movie. The 48-year-old plays eighties rocker Stacee Jaxx in the movie and recently released a picture of himself from the film, reported a publication

"I'm not kidding, the guy can sing. The guy can dance, the guy obviously can act. I mean, he can do it all, and he does it all very well," said Hough. She, however, regrets not being on the sets on the first day when Cruise performed. "I wasn't there for the first day of shooting for his stuff, but I just got people emailing me, like, 'Oh my gosh,' chills, standing ovation, the crew was blown away. And I'm like, 'I missed it!' He's astonishing," she said. — PTI

Million Dollar dress

An auction of actress Debbie Reynolds' Hollywood memorabilia earned $22.8 million over the weekend and included the record-breaking sale of Marilyn Monroe's iconic "subway dress" from 1955 movie The Seven Year Itch, organizers said. The $4.6 million winning bid for Monroe's dress, which billows up with a gust of air as a train rolls by, rose to $5.52 million after taxes and fees were included, and the sum far surpassed pre-sale estimates of $1 million to $2 million.

The dress was among nearly 600 costumes and other memorabilia collected by Reynolds, a singer, dancer and actress who rose to fame during the 1950s and was married to singer Eddie Fisher. "I'm thrilled beyond words. This first auction shows that our great stars were loved by the world," said Reynolds. A second sale of Reynolds' items will take place on Dec. 3. Auctioneer Profiles in History said the previous costume sales record was held by Audrey Hepburn's iconic little black dress from the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany's, which sold for $923,187. The auction resulted in several major sales that surpassed that figure. Hepburn's ascot dress from My Fair Lady fetched $4.4 million, and Judy Garland's blue cotton dress from Wizard of Oz drew $1.09 million. —Reuters

Healthy, wealthy & wise

Socialite Paris Hilton has revealed how she lost weight during her teens and 20s because she was just too busy to eat, but gained it back after boyfriend Cy Waits encouraged her to eat healthy. Hilton, 30, who is 5'8", said her partying lifestyle drained her body and by last year she weighed just 105 pounds and fit into a size zero.

"I'd been to every incredible party in the world. But I was going out with my girlfriends and dancing, having a lot of coffee and Red Bull," a magazine quoted her as saying.

"Being on the move, I would just grab fast food or skip meals because I was busy," she revealed.

Hilton's mom, Kathy, noticed that she was shrinking, and told her that she did not look good and that it was bad for her health.

"She would be like, 'You're way too skinny. It doesn't look good'. I said, 'Mom, everyone is skinny in Hollywood. It's just the way it is.' And she's like, 'No. It's not normal'," Hilton said.

It was only when boyfriend Cy Waits, a former nightclub owner who she started dating last summer, advised her on getting healthy that she changed her eating habits.

"He explained everything to me. Now I only eat organic foods when we're at home," Hilton said.

"He makes me watch documentaries on food, like Fast Food Nation, and he makes me aware of what things are good for your body because he's very into that," she explained.

By December, however, paparazzi thought Hilton was having too much of a good thing when she hit 125 lbs, and the pregnancy rumours followed. "Even if I'm a few pounds overweight, people will be like, 'Oh, she's fat'. And it's not fair. — ANI

Crochet returns
T
he age-old skill of knitting, crochet, is making a comeback in
the form of
dresses and tops this summer

Deewanshi Grover

Every summer we face the same question—what dresses would be in vogue this season? Don’t worry as the dresses this summer are diverse in design. In addition to the maxis and miniskirts, another kind of chic dresses this year are crochet ones. Just have a look at the high streets, crochet costumes, bags, purses, footwear and also many other items are resurging at a rapid pace. Crochet garments, one special kind of clothing, are ideally worn in summer. An important feature of these dresses is their hollowed surface with sophisticated patterns. In one word, they make you feel cool in one piece dress as it offers your skin a slight breeze. The colours that go best with crochet and knitted apparel are white, beige, champagne, ecru, light brown, red, gray, blue, black and various prints.

"Compared to maxi dresses, all crochet dresses have a retro look. If you are hunting for apparel in such patterns, just find your one piece from various crochet offerings. One option I would like to suggest to you is the combo of the maxi and the crochet. It's a wonderful choice for you to wear on the beach. If you are wondering how to wear it, just go for a straw hat in a matching colour. As for the shoes, a pair of flip-flops is enough. Of course, you can also select several pieces of well-fitting accessories for you to make you look more fabulous" says Neelofer khan, a dress designer. Formerly the stuff of craft fairs crochet is slowly shedding its simple image and becoming chic.

During summer, everyone wants comfortable and airy fabric, says Minni. Running a boutique in sector 18, she adds. Fancy crochet lacy tops, knee length dresses and skirts which are hand crocheted of 100 per cent cotton in a large floral pattern are ruling the ramp this summer."

Crochet is the new light weight cotton to wear this summer. Apart from the fact, that it is very comfortable in the heat, it is also extremely classy and rich in style as compared to cotton. When it comes to tops, try and stick to loose and fancy fits.

“You can pick these actually pretty dressy tank tops and match them with denims or skirts in beautiful summer colors like pink, blue, red and yellow. Wear it to the beach, college, and gathering or to a party. You will surely look chic and attractive," says a shopper picking the same in the Sector 17, Chandigarh, market.

"Dresses detailed with crochets are high in demand. Knee-length tube dresses are a favourite with college crowd," says Nandini, a college student.

Fight the bulge with yoga

Weight gain is always associated with the accumulation of fats on different areas of the body. Some carry more fat on their upper limbs, while others have it on their belly. But for most people, especially women, areas of the thigh and buttocks are a major source of fat accumulation, resulting in a body shaped like a pear. This is mainly due to our genetics determines where the majority of fat cells will be placed. Unfortunately for some there are more fat cells around the thighs. What one must do is shrink the amount of fat within those fat cells in order to make the thighs and buttocks leaner and thinner. Thigh exercises that use all the major muscle groups in your lower body will increase your metabolism hours after exercise. Your thighs include some of the biggest muscles in your entire body. Padvritasan is one of the best exercises you can do for your hips, butt and thighs and this is also a functional exercise, helping us build strength for a variety of daily activities.

Padvritasan will not only help you to fit into your tight jeans it will also improve the flexibility of the muscles.

Padvritasan: To start with, lie flat on the floor, on your back. The arms should rest along the sides, palms downwards. Raise the right leg and make a big circle by rotating the leg clockwise. While raising the leg up inhale and exhale while bringing it back. In this way make 5 to 20 circles without touching the leg to the ground. After rotating in one direction, rotate the leg in the opposite direction (anti-clockwise). Now repeat the same with the other leg. This exercise can also be performed tying weight belts of 1kg to 1.5 kg round the ankle in order to make it more effective.

After doing this exercise with single legs, do it with both the legs simultaneously. Rotate the legs in as big a circle as you can. Rotate the legs clockwise and then again anti-clockwise. Breathing and repetition will remain same as I mentioned above. But don't try this exercise with weight belts. Weight belts can only be used when we perform this exercise with single leg. When we perform Padvritasan with both the legs together it gives proper shape to the stomach also.

Maiden bowled over

The first time I ever met the Indian cricket team was for an ad we shot together. That was also the first time I was directed by the very talented Rakesh Mehra.

When I was told I was to shoot with the entire cricket team, I was obviously ecstatic!

Day one of the shoot and I was in my vanity van when Rakesh Mehra called to introduce me to the cricket team. I along with Mehra went up to the van where the team was. I was expecting a very energetic and a full of life 'hi' but I got a very formal one from all of them followed by a long pause! I was obviously a bit awkward and after exchanging a few pleasantries, I left for my van, still a bit taken aback.

In about five minutes, I heard a knock on the door and I saw my very favourite Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh) looking in.

"Can I come in?" Bhajji asked with a very warm smile. As he did, I saw the entire team come in behind him. No pause this time as Bhajji spoke "Oye aap to Shaheede Mohabbat wale ho!!!! We didn't recognise you!!! Sooo good to meet you!! I love the way you address Gurdaas Maan as Sardarji in the film!!" As he broke the ice and we started bonding in chaste Punjabi, the entire team became a party to it. And from then on, it was a party shooting with them. Learning to take a good catch from the best in business!

Jokes, masti and bonding and a super ad got wrapped up in no time! The warmth and the enthusiasm just rubbed on to me just as it rubs on to all of us when we watch them play for the nation. What I loved and admired about them was the sheer honesty with which they admitted they took a bit of time to recognise me and the way they all made up for it later on.

The person I thought who was the most straight from the heart was our very own Bhajji, who I bumped into again at the airport just after the World Cup win!! There was a frenzy around him at the Chandigarh airport. As he saw me, he got up and greeted me “Oh my God! You are looking so different! I didn’t recognise you for a second!”

A smile came on my face…I had heard that before? Some things never change…like the warmth and the boyish charm of this lovely guy in front of me.

Shrub is not a tree

Gardeners are very well informed in Chandigarh. But at times we get queries from amateur gardeners which are very basic but equally important for us. The first and the foremost problem is the identification of plants. From time to time we have been introducing new species to the gardeners.

People confuse between a tree and a shrub with the same name. One of the most common example is that of Lagerstroemia. See the accompanying pictures. The one with pink flowers is the tree; Pride of India, also called Lagerstroemia and the one with purple flowers is a shrub also known with the same name. I do not want you to know the technical difference but one is a tree and the other a shrub. The tree grows to a medium height and has a habit of spreading. The trees bear pink, mauve and white flowers in summer. The flowers and leaves are bold. It is a free flowering tree and gets covered when in bloom. The shrub also bears profusely but the flowers are small in size and frilled. The number, however, is so large that the whole of the shrub gets covered. The flowers come in white, mauve and pink as in the tree. The shrub can be pruned back near to the ground level when dormant. When left to grow uncut, it also attains good height and takes the shape of a miniature tree. Other tree that has its pigmy brother is Gulmohur. Grown for its beautiful crimson red orange bold flowers it has its replica in Gulmohri. Like Pride of India, Gulmohur is also a spreading tree but a shade bigger than the former. You may not like to see red in summers but the colour of Gulmohur flowers is soothing. The shrub gulmohri also bears flowers terminally. The shrub is also called Peacock flower due to the crown shaped flowers growing at the top. A new species with yellow flowers is also available and is propagated through seeds.

MYTH: Aquatic plants can only be grown in big ponds in the house or parks is not true. Those who live in multi-storey flats can also enjoy growing aquatic plants in shallow pots.

You can start by making tiny alterations to your diet and adding these foods to keep your skin healthy and glowing. So let's check out some eating habits that can leave you with that drop dead gorgeous look.

Berries

"Berries like strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and plum have antioxidant properties. These antioxidants prevent skin damage thereby giving them a youthful and younger look for long. Moreover, it further prevents the cells from getting damaged and disintegrated," says Ritika Lal, skin specialist. Berries are delicious and are easy to find in the season and are best to eat with yoghurt, cereals and are a great on-the-go snack.

Spinach and carrot

These vegetables have a bad reputation of not being so yummy. But remember when our respective moms used to lecture us on their positive points, and as we all know that moms are always right. "They are excellent sources of vitamin A that is a required nutrient for healthy skin. They are required for maintaining and developing skin cells. Moreover, it also solves the problem of dry skin," adds Ritika. So, eat them raw, cooked or tossed in salads. They guarantee beautiful skin.

Green tea

In the time of coffee and lattes, tea is reviving not only as an alternate drink but also as a readily available solution to get that good looking skin. "Unlike coffee, green tea contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps in reducing inflammation; protects cell membranes and keeps bacteria at bay. With its regular use, damage occurring from sunburns and over exposure to ultraviolet rays is reduced to a great extent," she says. Almonds

Since our childhood, we have been listening to the numerous advantages of almonds. Be it eyesight or sharpening of memory, almonds have been topping the charts. But now one more sphere is added in its kitty and that is beautiful skin. "Almonds have essential fatty acids that help to keep the skin soft and supple. Being amazingly rich in Vitamin E, almonds give the skin a glowing look. Moreover, it also helps in maintaining skin moisture and maintaining skin tissues," says Sunita Malhotra, dietician, PGI.

Water

Last but not the least is water. Good hydration is our skin's best friend. However, water intake from caffeinated sugary drinks, colas and sodas doesn't count. "Water intake should be from pure and clean source as it rejuvenates the skin. It both hydrates the skin and moves the toxins out,” adds Sunita. Pay attention to what you feed your body to look your best.
