Centre’s ‘failure’ to be state BJP’s plank
Pithoragarh, June 12 Thawar Chand Gehlot, national general secretary, in charge of the state BJP, briefing mediapersons on the second day of the three-day state executive committee meeting held at Almora, said a resolution passed in the political session blamed the Congress for the rising prices in the country while the BJP-ruled states were having less inflation as compared to those of the Congress-ruled states in the country. “This will be the main issue of the party in the 2012 Assembly elections in the state. Our party will organise five rallies and a maha rally against rising prices from next November in the state,” said Gehlot. He further said that besides the rising prices, the negligence of Uttarakhand by the Centre would also be one of the main issues on which the party would go to the people in the next elections. The BJP state executive meeting that was attended by top leaders, including Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, former Chief Minister BC Khanduri besides state party chief Bishen Singh Chufal, was attended by more than 200 members. Former Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari could not attend the meeting due to sudden illness as he had to be admitted to a hospital in Haldwani on his way to Almora. The party in charge claimed that the four years of the BJP government in the state would be remembered for good governance and work on the social front. “Even the Union Planning Commission has appreciated the performance of the state government and awarded it for that,” said Gehlot. Earlier, addressing a press conference, Chief Minister Nishank alleged that the Congress was still showing its apathy towards the creation of the state of Uttarakhand as it had always been opposing its formation. “All five members of the Lok Sabha of the Congress from the state have kept silent in Parliament on the important issues facing the state,” claimed Nishank. “Our party has always been fighting to root out corruption in public life and bring back black money deposited in foreign banks. To make it a mass movement, our party is cooperating with the movement of Baba Ramdev on corruption,” said Nishank. The party will help Ramdev in making it a mass issue. The Uttarakhand unit of the ruling BJP yesterday claimed that it has made corruption one of the main planks of its election manifesto in the coming Assembly poll in the state. This decision was taken at the state executive committee meeting of the party, held at Almora yesterday. Suresh Joshi, general secretary of the party unit in Uttarakhand, along with state party chief Bishen Singh Chufal, addressing mediapersons, said the BJP had staged dharnas in all 13 districts of the state on June 5 against corruption. Followers of Baba Ramdev also joined in the dharna,” said Joshi. According to Joshi, the political agenda of the party has been prepared and it will be discussed in later sessions of the party. “Our government in the state has fulfilled 80 per cent of the assurances made in the election manifesto of the 2007 Assembly elections in the state and the work on 20 per cent remaining assurances is facing obstacles from the Union Government in the form of forest laws,” said Suresh Joshi. |

Ramdev using religion to serve ‘personal interests’
Dehradun, June 12 Addressing a press conference here, Aduksha Nand Maharaj alleged that Ramdev was using religion to serve his interests. “Ramdev himself has amassed a huge wealth through his business and should not be identified as Baba,” he added. He said the issue of the possession of a fake Nepal passport by Acharya Balkrishna, a close aide of Ramdev, was an important issue as there were reports of fake currency being “channelised” through Nepal. Security agencies must probe the identity of Balkrishna and his “links” with anti-national elements could be ruled out, he alleged. Aduksha also criticised Sri Sri Ravishankar and even questioned the religious importance of his organisation, The Art of Living. He said Sri Sri Ravishankar must reveal his funding, particularly that he receives from foreign agencies. Congress Tehri MLA Kishore Updhayaya, having a dig at Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, said while Nishank repeatedly visited Ramdev at Jolly Grant hospital, he did not find it appropriate to even talk to him when he was on a fast despite the fact he was “a part of his political family”. |

BJP for zero tolerance to corruption: Joshi
Dehradun, June 12 Addressing a press conference in Dehradun, Murli Manohar Joshi said BJP strongly believes in zero tolerance to corruption and would support anyone standing against it. He called for consensus in the civil society to meet the evil of corruption. Referring to the draft report submitted to the Speaker by PAC on 2G Spectrum irregularities, Joshi who heads Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said while the committee was stern on any act of corruption, he was surprised by a Union cabinet minister’s comments that they have thrown the draft report into dustbin. “This is ridiculous as PAC is meant to check corruption. The ruling dispensation at the Centre has got irritated by the name of Prime Minister Office being mentioned in the draft report”, he pointed out reiterating PAC’s commitment to fight the scourge of corruption. Joshi also accused the Congress-led government of ignoring Uttarakhand. Referring to Baba Ramdev’s stir against corruption, he said the agitation has certainly helped generating a strong opinion in the society against corruption. He said people both from rural and urban areas have started coming together to wage a struggle against corruption. |

Cong, BJP catering to capitalists: BSP
Haridwar, June 12 Leaders of the BSP have started targeting both the Congress and the BJP to present itself as a party with “real difference”. Launching its mission 2012, workers of the party are carrying out anti-Congress and anti-BJP campaigns in the district, terming both the parties as the ones catering to capitalists. Addressing the party workers, state BSP chief Meghraj Singh Zaraware pointed out that the UPA government at the Centre had failed to control the rising inflation, which had affected the common man severely and exposed the real face of the Congress the ministers of which were just busy in accumulating money by wrong ways. “Several Cabinet ministers and portfolio holders in the Congress have been charged with corruption and scams while the poor man struggles to earn two meals a day. While the Congress is spending millions on the Bharat Nirman ad campaign, in reality it is ‘Bhrashtachar Nirman’,” said Zaraware. Leader of the BSP in the state Assembly Mohammed Shahzad elaborated on Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank-led BJP government’s working, saying that it’s busy allocating red beacons to its party leaders while people of the state were fighting poverty, unemployment and mass migration in hill districts due to a lack of development. This was despite a majority of ministers hailing from the hill region. Shahzad, who is the Bahadrabad legislator, also had a dig on Union State Minister of Agriculture Harish Rawat and State Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik, saying that both are busy attending party programmes but have failed to redress the problems of the people of their respective constituency. The voters of their constituency will give them a befitting reply in the coming elections, he added. Chaudhary Kulveer Singh, vice-chief of the state BSP, talked about discrepancies in the Mid-day Meal scheme. He said neither the quality of the food nor the level of education was being taken care of. It defeats the very objective of the scheme. Newly elected Zila Panchayat Chairperson Anjum Begum said women folk would be playing a major role in bringing able governance in the state and it could be possible under the BSP rule only. Enrolling new members as well as reaching out to the masses in villages and far-flung areas of the state will be the target of the party so that it can get a clear majority in the Assembly elections. |

Ambawat said the farmers had been taken for granted for long and treated as a mere vote bank. “But, now we will be raising the voice of the peasants via this new party against the politicians who are being provided funds by capitalists, which has upped inflation,” he added. Other major issues related with farmers like procurement rates by government agencies, waiver of loans, subsidised fertilisers as well as market rate for the land acquired by the government for varied purposes were discussed at the convention.
