A prank played by an unidentified caller at the police control room (PCR), who ‘tipped’ the cops about a murder at a Sector-43 house, has left the occupants totally shocked.

Shots fired at house of Akali leader, none hurt
Mohali, May 12
Unidentified carborne suspects fired three gunshots at the Sector 69 residence of a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader, Kiranbir Singh Kang, in the wee hours today.
Kang, who was recently appointed the party’s vice-president and also a member of its political affairs committee, was asleep in his bedroom when the shots were fired at about 1.30 am.
6 kids hurt as car hits van
Chandigarh, May 12
Six school students suffered minor injuries when an Innova car, being driven rashly by a woman, hit their school van at Sector 9 here this afternoon.
The students belonged to the CRB Public School, Sector 7.

CTU bus crushes man to death
Chandigarh, May 12
A 32-year-old carpenter died after he was hit by a CTU bus on the road separating Sectors 45 and 46 here today.
The mishap occurred when one side of the road was closed due to repair work.
The accident occurred at 6 pm when Shashi Sharma, a resident of Sector 56, was on a bike with his brother-in-law Manoj riding pillion.
Blockade over police inaction

Enraged over police inaction after the death of a girl of Kahlon village, who succumbed to burn injuries today, residents of Kahlon village blocked the Mohali-Sohana-Kharar road here for over two hours.
City lad 70th in civil services exam

An IRS officer of the 2008 batch and graduate from the PEC University of Technology, currently posted in
Allahabad, city topper Harjinder Singh has scored an all-India 70th rank in the civil services exam this time.
Despite having completed 16 months of training in the IRS, Harjinder had continued preparations for the UPSC exam and finally entered the top 100 in his last attempt.

Metro DPR chugs off

The detailed project report (DPR) for the Chandigarh Metro is making progress. A meeting was held by VK Singh, UT finance secretary, Chandigarh Administration, with a team of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) executive director SD Sharma and representatives of the Punjab and Haryana and Punjab Engineering College (PEC) University.

7 heads of cattle burnt in mishap
Zirakpur, May 12
Two heads of buffaloes and five calves were burnt alive while 24 others were injured in a fire that broke out in a cattle shed at Bishanpura village here this afternoon.
The animals belonged to Soma and Jasmair Singh who alleged that the fire erupted due to short-circuit from electricity wires near the shed.
68-year-old man hit by train, dies
Zirakpur, May 12
A 68-year-old man was killed after a speeding passenger train hit him on the Dhakoli railway track here this morning. An unidentified person sustained minor injuries after he lost his balance on the motorcycle and fell down near the railway track at the same time.
