Coming as a bolt from the blue for the management of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, the Municipal Town Planner has issued a notice giving three-day time to the college authorities to produce a plan of the building approved either by the Jalandhar Improvement Trust or Municipal Corporation.

The police has booked at least 25 persons for attacking a police party near Angarh area and ransacking and damaging vehicles passing through the area late last night. The police had to use force to scatter the rampaging mob.

According to the information, the incident occurred when rumours regarding the death of Babbaljit, who was arrested by the police, spread in the area. He was arrested by Gate Hakima police in connection with the murder of a woman during a marriage party in Faqir Colony a couple of days ago.

DCP Amar Singh Chahal confirming the incident said that Babaljit was in the police custody and investigations were under progress when some rumourmongers spread the news of his death in police custody.

A large group of persons belonging to Anngarh area armed with blunt weapons came on roads and started damaging the government property and the vehicles of the passing through the area. They allegedly attacked the police party standing outside the Gate Hakima police station.

He said one person has been arrested in this regard while manhunt has been launched to nab the remaining persons.

It is pertinent to mention here that one Paramjit Kaur was killed during a minor dispute between accused Babaljit Singh and one Survinder Singh during the marriage of latter’s cousin, Kanwar Kumar of Faqir Colony.

Five held for watchman’s murder

The police arrested five persons including a scrap dealer in connection with cold blooded murder of a watchman of a textile factory situated on a link road, Sultanwind, a couple of days ago.

The watchman identified as Balkar Singh was founded brutally stabbed by unidentified persons with his hands and legs tied. The incident came to light when his son Avtar Singh went to serve him tea in the wee hours.

Those arrested were Joga Singh, scarp dealer in Talwandi Dogra, Hardev Singh of Bharowal, Sukhwinder Singh, Kuldip Singh and Sonu of Khankot area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Amar Singh Chahal said during preliminary investigations it was found that an air conditioner, two drill machines, a 15KV motor besides chains were stolen from the factory. The police located some foot prints from the spot and teams headed by Manjit Singh, SHO, and Sukhwinder Singh, in charge CIA staff, were constituted.

He said missing articles pointed to the involvement of a scrap dealer. Therefore investigations were launched in this direction and a close watch was kept on scrap dealers. The police zeroed in on Joga Singh who has his shop just a few metres away from the factory. His interrogation revealed the whole nexus and on their demarcation the police recovered the stolen material and vehicle used in the crime.

Three killed, 10 hurt in mishaps

Gulzar Kaur (40) and her brother-in-law Kulwant Singh (58) of Mehtot village in Ropar district were killed when their car rammed into a canal bridge on the Chaura-Bheen link road in the district here yesterday.

Gulzar Kaur, her husband Gurbachan Singh and brother-in-law were going to pay obeisance at a religious place.

Phagwara: A nine-year-child was killed and 10 others sustained injuries in different mishaps in Phagwara on Monday. Dhanu, a student of Class IV, was killed after being hit by a motorcycle near Gobindpura. He was first admitted in the local Civil Hospital, but was referred to Jalandhar hospital. The boy succumbed to his injuries on the way. In other two mishaps, 10 persons including four women sustained injuries in local Hoshiarpur road and bypass yesterday. The injured were admitted to the local civil hospitals.

Apeejay college given three days to produce building plan to MC

Coming as a bolt from the blue for the management of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, the Municipal Town Planner has issued a notice giving three-day time to the college authorities to produce a plan of the building approved either by the Jalandhar Improvement Trust or Municipal Corporation.

Addressed to the college principal, the notice issued on Monday by MTP Tirlok Singh reads that any receipts of the compounding fee paid from the college be also produced in the office. Further, he has written that the warning be treated as the final notice from the MC failing which the building could even be sealed.

The MTP today confirmed having sent the notice. He said show-cause notices sent earlier by him had failed to yield any response from the authorities.

Ajay Sehgal, RTI activist, who has blown the matter, said the action came after he had repeatedly written to commissioner Viney Bublani. He said that he managed to lay hands on quite a few documents regarding violations in the building after which he had put up a case with the authorities.

Vice-president of the college Yash Raj Aggarwal contradicting saying that he had replied to all earlier notices he got from the MC. He, however, claimed he was yet to see the final notice and would get it from the college.
