He also possesses an HIG flat in New Delhi, an HIG flat in Jaipur (Rajasthan) and another flat of the same category in Sonepat (Haryana). All the Information Commissioners have followed in the footsteps of former Chief Information Commissioner of Uttarakhand RS Tolia who had voluntarily declared his assets. However, the Right to Information activists say while the Information Commissioners’ step will enhance the reputation of the Commission that is all about declaring authentic information, “most Commissioners have made only patchy disclosures. They have only mentioned details about properties, but not their total worth,” said Amar Singh, general secretary of the Uttarakhand RTI Club. |
Chamoli inspects Doon areas
Dehradun, April 13 The drain is being constructed at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore. The corporation had invited the bid for the same after the last rainy season when most of the area was submerged. “We don’t want that the residents should face the same situation they had faced last year. It was found that the capacity of the drainage system on the main road was very less due to which water entered the houses and this is the reason this drainage with more capacity is being constructed,” Chamoli added. Incessant rains flooded Chaman Vihar, Majra, Preeti Enclave, Keshav Vihar last year and the corporation is now trying to ensure that the residents do not face the same problem this year too. He stated there was no connectivity in the drainage next to the ISBT and the newly constructed mall. Fe asked the respected department to see that the work was done well on time. “The corporation has also asked the ISBT and the owner of the mall to make sure that they should get the treatment plant repaired as soon as possible. The damaged treatment plant had led to filth spreading all over,” the Mayor added. The team that accompanied the Mayor comprised the MDDA Secretary,
the Senior Health Officer, the Assistant Executive Engineer (Corporation) and officials from the
PWD and the National Highways Authority. |

Wakf Board turns down proposal to give absolute power to chief
Dehradun, April 13 The elected members decided to take legal recourse to curb the powers of the Chairman or go for a fresh election. A major part of the meeting was dedicated to the discussions on the proposal of giving supreme powers to the Chairman. The proposal was defeated in the voting with all the five elected members as well as one nominated member Mufti Raees Ahmad Qasmi going against it, and three nominated members approving it. The Chairman of the state Wakf Board talked of taking a legal advice on the matter, whether his vote could be doubled, as a member and Chairman of the board so that he could get an edge in the voting. Ali accused the elected members of playing politics in the Wakf matters whereas the elected members arraigned him of conspiring to usurp all the powers to make money through fraudulent ways. The matter of retrieving the amount of Rs 5.8 crore spent on the beautification projects by the District Magistrate, Haridwar, when the Wakf Board remained dissolved, too, was opposed by all the elected members, and supported by the nominated members. Haji Mohd Shahzad, a member, accused the Chairman of being slackened in charging the dues to the tune of about Rs 1.02 crore from contractors. He also demanded for complete information regarding the sale of cardamom at religious place Piran Kaliyar and the money made out of it. The demand for the removal of Alam, who has been accused of misappropriating funds worth Rs 28.50 lakh, was raised vigorously by the elected members who asked the Chairman in which capacity he reinstated Alam who had removed by the Board, a decision later corroborated by the High Court, Nainital as well. On the matter, the Chairman admitted his fault and asked to give Alam one more chance for explanation. However, his plea was rejected by the elected members. Board member Razia Beig was given the task to enquire into the irregularities committed by Alam. The members demanded a quick action in the matter of the alleged encroachment by slum dwellers on the land of a burial ground at Wakf-430 by invoking the help of the Secretary (Social Welfare).
