Woman, domestic help murdered; buried in house
Jalandhar, April 13 The greed to take possession of her 2 marla house is said to be the motive behind the murders. Raj Rani and her domestic help Khushboo were living at her house in the Shiv Nagar locality. Both had been missing for the last 10 days and Raj Rani’s son, Chandan Kumar, filed a complaint in this regard at Division No I police station, on March 7. In a press conference, Dr S.K. Kalia, ADCP-I, said in a statement given to the police after the recovery of Raj Rani’s body, Chandan alleged that on April 12, when he went to his mother’s home, he found that Ashok Kumar, a resident of the same locality, had locked her mother’s home and took possession of the house. A woman, named Toshi, and her sons Balwinder Kumar and Lov Kumar were also in collusion with Ashok, alleged Chandan. Later, when he asked Ashok the reason for putting lock, Ashok said Raj Rani had taken a debt of Rs 50,000 from him and he took possession of the house following her failure to return the money. However, Chandan broke open the lock and entered the house, where he noticed the foul smell emanating from the bedroom of the house. Thereafter, he reported it to the police. A police team of the ADCP-I, Balkar Singh, ACP, North, and Nirmal Singh, Inspector, Division No I police station, questioned Ashok, who admitted that he, along with Toshi and her sons, committed the crime. The police also recovered the body of Khushboo from the lobby of the house. A case under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC was registered. |

‘Missing’ Pak cricket fan returns home
Amritsar, April 13 According to information, the 66-year-old resident of Karachi had come to India on a 15-day visa, reportedly on March 24. The visa allowed him to visit New Delhi, apart from watching the semifinal cricket match, scheduled for March 30 at the PCA stadium, Mohali, and the final at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 2. It has been learnt that he stayed at a hotel in Chandigarh but “vanished” a day after the match. Since he reportedly did not watch the final match in Mumbai, the intelligence agencies got alert and carried a look-out operation for him as his visa was to expire on April 7. About his “illegal stay” in India, the immigration officials said on scrutinising his papers, it was found that he had got his visa term extended and in those circumstances, he had his stay here on legal grounds. “After investigation, it was found that after the Mohali match, he went to New Delhi to visit his relatives. He was in New Delhi only thereafter because he fell ill and that’s why he did not visit Mumbai. Due to his ill health, he had obtained extension in his visa through the Ministry of Home Affairs, the validity of which was to expire today and he crossed over to Pakistan well in time,” an official said. |
