A 50-year-old NRI, who came from Saudi Arabia to meet his family, was killed by four persons trying to snatch gold ornaments from his wife, near the DC Montessori Park, in Mani Majra last evening.

Four rounded up in Khushpreet case
Chandigarh, March 21
Even as the UT Police remained tightlipped on the kidnapping-cum-killing of five-year-old Khushpreet which rocked the city in January, police sources revealed that at least four persons had been rounded up. There were unconfirmed reports that a woman, a resident of Sector 68, had also been rounded up.

Fined Rs 50,000 by HC, told to hold special exam
Chandigarh, March 21
Admonishing Panjab University for demonstrating a “careless attitude” and an “apathetic state of affairs”, the Punjab & Haryana High Court has directed the varsity to pay Rs 50,000 as compensation to a student for wasting her two “valuable years”. Justice Mahesh Grover also asked the university to conduct a special examination for the student in May.
Kairon lays stone of State Data Centre
Mohali, March 21
Punjab’s Department of Information Technology (IT) has tied up with the Centre to track whether the commodities distributed under the public distribution system (PDS) reach the intended beneficiaries. The pilot project, the first of its kind in the country, will also be using the data bank available in the unique identification number (UID) project, said Punjab Minister of Information Technology Adesh Partap Singh Kairon.

From April 1 buying liquor from vends in Mohali will be become a costly proposition. Under the new excise policy for fiscal 2011-12 a bottle of popular brand of liquor is going to cost about Rs 15 more.
