West Indies vs Ireland
Chandigarh, March 11 Twenty-four-year-old Kieron Pollard made a quick fire 94 off 55 balls, including five sixes and eight boundaries, to help the Caribbean team register a crucial 44-run win against the Irish team and adding full points for moving up to the points tally. His counterpart, opener Darren Smith also contributed 107 runs to build a good partnership between them. The spectators were seen enjoying the brilliant knock by him. On the other hand, Irish team supporters were seen disappointed, as the team lost the match after giving an expected good fight. “We were in the college when we came to know that the West Indies team was batting first. We immediately rushed to the stadium and were amazed to see Pollard banging the ball, but the Irish team as expected gave a tough fight to the opponents,” said a group of college-going students coming out from the students’ block. Irish batsman Ed Joyce contributed 84 runs, including nine fours, to take the team close to the target, but they failed to overcome the bowling attack of West Indies duo, Dareen Sammy and Sulieman Benn, who took three and four wickets, respectively. “We were here to support the Irish team, as it is the best team among those who are not favourites for the tournament. No matter that they have lost the match, but they fought hard,” said a group of Ireland team supporters while furling the Ireland flag. Meanwhile, some local youngsters were seen dancing on dhol beats, while watching the match. “We are here to enjoy the match, as the players are giving their best to win the match and we are making our best efforts to enjoy the match with desi beats,” said Jyoti Malhotra and company while enjoying with her group.
Police personnel were seen using the new “Mobile Tracer”, a machine to check spectators coming to watch the match. According to the police personnel deployed there, the machine helps to catch any person carrying suspicious material like weapons inside the stadium. This was for the first time that the police personnel were using such a machine. There were a total of 18 machines used at all gates of the PCA Stadium. Notably the matches at the PCA Stadium witness a huge number of foreign audiences. Stars not favourable
It seems that stars are not favouring the England team, as the team tasted its second defeat in a row during the league stage of the ICC- Cricket World Cup Championship. The English team lost to one of the host nations, Bangladesh by two wickets as the English team failed to break the nine-wicket partnership, which added 50 more runs to achieve the target. This is the England’s consecutive defeat after Ireland defeated them in the previous match. After this, the Pool B is once again open for all the teams competing in this group for attaining top four positions in points tally. During the second match at the PCA Stadium, police officials caught many sellers who were selling tickets in black. TNS team came across many youngsters indulging in this business outside the stadium for some profit. “We have our sources inside the stadium, who provide us tickets and we sell them to people by making some profit,” said a 15-year-old boy. |
