Corbett to install five high-tech towers
Dehradun, February 3 Uttarakhand Chief Wildlife Warden Srikant Chandola, while participating in an interactive session organised by the People For Animals (PFA), Uttarakhand, here today, said a company - Binomial Solutions - approved by the National Tiger Conservation Authority had been selected to install the towers. He said the towers would have two types of cameras fitted on them - infra-red and thermal - to keep a check on any activity inside Corbett forests. “Initially, five towers will be set up in the southern boundary of the park. These will subsequently be extended to other parts of the park,” Srikant Chandola said. He also said the Uttarakhand Wildlife Department was also acquiring two vehicles from Madhya Pradesh specially devised for wildcat rescue operations. “While one vehicle will be kept at Dehradun, the other will be taken to Haldwani in the Kumaon region,” he said. Chandola said the department was all set to use a pair of Belgian Shepherd dogs to check tiger-linked anti-wildlife activities. Referring to the recent gunning down of a man-eater in Corbett, Uttarakhand Chief Wildlife Warden said it was done as the last resort. “Such decisions are most unfortunate,” he said. Earlier, Dev Lahiri, Principal, Welham Boys School, and member, Uttarakhand Board of Directors, PFA, stressed on finding long-term solutions to reduce man-tiger conflicts in Corbett. Wildlife Institute of India scientist Bilal Habib focused on the arduous task of dealing with tigers that had turned man-eaters. PFA Uttarakhand member secretary Gauri Maulekhi coordinated the event. |
Chila Motichoor Elephant Corridor
Dehradun, February 3 The Chila Motichoor elephant corridor that falls in the Rajaji National Park in Uttarakhand connects western and eastern parts of the park. It facilitates the long-distance movement of pachyderms that is hindered due to the physical obstructions, including Khand III village. “We have served notices on the villagers and are awaiting their response for the signing of the memorandum of understanding,” Pradeep Kumar, Warden of the Rajaji National Park and in charge for the rehabilitation of the villager, pointed out. He said the ball was now in villagers’ court. The residents of Khand III are evacuees from the area acquired by the Tehri Dam authorities and this is the second rehabilitation for these families in 35 years. They originally inhabited the former Tehri village and moved to Johra block of Motichur, and finally settled at Khand III. The Park officials have drafted a memorandum of understanding that is to be shortly signed with the villagers entailing the shifting of 32 families to the Lalpani area between twin townships of Rishikesh and Haridwar. After the shifting of these 32 families, 9 more families from the region will be shifted to make the corridor habitation free. Sources reveal that the rehabilitation will be carried out on the lines of the Tehri Dam oustees’ rehabilitation, which prominently involves land as replacement of land while ensuring all basic civic amenities at the new site and payments against the land according to the assessment of property. Significantly, the Wildlife Trust of India has been instrumental towards brokering talks between the families of Khand III and the State Forest Department and convincing the former for going for the rehabilitation process. |
Music Cos. promote piracy: Kumar Sanu
Mussoorie, February 3 Responding to the question on music piracy prevalent in the country, he opined that it was sad that music piracy was eating up the industry and had emerged as the biggest menace for artistes. He said the only solution to this was that music lovers should stay away from the cheap pirated digital versions and buy only the original. He, however, divulged that certain music companies themselves were indulging in piracy and using loop holes in the Copyright Act to their own advantage. Elaborating further, Kumar Sanu said certain companies had created three categories in marketing music. The first one was the original, which was priced on the higher side, the second one was for middle classes and the fourth one was for the extremely poor and sold on the roadside as the pirated version. In this way, the company not only avoided taxes, but the music also reached the masses. But in the process music lovers received a cheaper version of popular music. The artistes were the main losers as they received no royalty for the pirated version which were not accounted for. Sanu further said this was one of the reasons, apart from the sad state of music existing today, he had remained away from the music industry. He said he was glad that that the murky waters of the tinsel town were clearing now and he was ready to bounce back once again with more than 25 films containing his music in the pipeline. Sanu also said he would love to sing songs in regional languages, be it Garhwali or Kumaoni, if offered, as he had already sung more than 22,000 songs in 22 different languages so far. The forthcoming films in which Kumar Sanu will feature are “Touch”, “Yeh Sunday Kyon Aaata Hai” etc. He also said his two serials would be aired on television soon. Kumar Sanu left for Tehri Lake today along with Bali Brahmbhatt.
Melody era will return to Bollywood, says Bali Brahmbhatt Mussoorie, February 3 Speaking to the media, Brahmbhatt said he was confident that the era of melody songs would return to Bollywood once again. He asserted that the period of tasteless music would end soon, adding that it was evident in the response of music lovers of the country to present songs, as they had started craving for the kind of music promoted by singers like Kumar Sanu who had refused to sing songs like “Munni badnam hui…” and “Sheila ki jawani…”. Brahmbhatt was all praise for Kumar Sanu. He said the industry was fortunate that Kumar Sanu had stuck to his format of melody and his forthcoming numbers would be a rage in Bollywood once again. The new generation directors were influenced by Western films and they pressurised composers to ape Western tunes, be it rock or country music. This had led to the sad demise of the melody in the country. Brahmbhatt appealed to the music lovers that they should play a proactive role in reviving the melodious music that once ordained the silver screen in a big way. Brahmbhatt has been termed as an ultimate performer. A terrific singer, emcee, very witty and spontaneous, he is known for entertaining audiences. He started the trend of recording remixes and introduced in India the Patel rap, which was the first Indian rap song to become popular internationally. |
