Liquor vend employee murdered
Rajpura, January 1 Yadav, in his thirties, was working in the liquor vend for the past six years and used to stay overnight. People from the village and those visiting the liquor vend recorded their statements with the police. The daily customers said everything was fine till 11.30 pm and the incident probably took place after that. The investigating officer said the employee had been residing in the liquor vend and many people, most of them in an inebriated condition, had visited the vend last night to ‘celebrate’ New Year. According to the police, somebody apparently entered a heated argument with the employee over the issue of liquor bottle prices. The accused probably repeatedly hit on the head of Yadav with sharp edged weapons. The victim was lying in a pool of blood when some people noticed him this morning and informed the police about the incident. Some bottles in the vend were missing and belongings of the deceased, including his empty wallet, were scattered all over up to more than 100 meters from the liquor vend. Investigating officer ASI Hameer Singh, ruling out the possibility of robbery or theft, said its owner took away entire day’s collection at 7 pm everyday. He said the employee was survived by two children and wife who reside in Uttar Pradesh. The family members were informed and the body would be kept in the civil hospital till the family members arrived from Uttar Pradesh. Police officials said efforts were on to nab the accused. A case in this connection has been registered at the Sadar police station. |

60 engineering selected in campus placement
Dera Bassi, January 1 Electronic Security system company Blue Beacon visited the college for selection and on the job training and recruitment of final year students of ECE. The interview and pre-placement test included rigorous rounds of technical as well as aptitude test. It was followed by a group discussion and interview. After the competition of first round of the selection procedure, the company representatives shortlisted 60 final year students. One held for fraud
Chandigarh, January 1 Manish Tehran, a resident of Sector 40, lodged a complaint with the police that Ravinder Kumar Jain, a resident of Sector 15, had taken Rs 45 lakh fraudulently from him. The complainant alleged that he had purchased property from Jain, which was under civil suit. The accused had taken Rs 45 lakh from him, alleged Tehran. Shaina Rana, a resident of Sector 34, reported to the police that someone stole her Swift car (CH-04-J-4637) from her residence on December 28.In another incident, Maneeb Ahamad, a resident of Sector 15, reported to the police that someone stole his motorcycle (CH-01-AA-1990) from his residence on the intervening night of December 26 and 27. The police has registered different cases under Section 379 of the IPC. |

Two thefts reported at Zirakpur
Zirakpur, January 1 Jaswinder Kaur, a resident of house number 157, said she went to her parental house in Naraingarh on Wednesday, along with her children. She got information about the theft from her neighbour this morning. When she returned, she found the house ransacked. She claimed that the miscreants managed to flee with a gold chain, silver jewellery and cash worth Rs 20,000. She said her husband had sent money from abroad few days back. She added that the thieves also took silver jewellery of her servant Usha, which was kept in the cupboard. In another incident, Paramjit Dainel, a resident of house number 172, said she went to Delhi three days ago along with her son Samson Johnson. She got information from her neighbour about the theft. When the mother-son returned this evening, they found that the house was ransacked and things were scattered. She claimed that thieves had decamped with Rs 40,000 and a pair of branded shoes. Two motorcyclists were killed in a road accident near Kohinoor Dhaba on the Zirakpur-Kalka highway here on Thursday night. The deceased have been identified as Jaswant Singh (20) and Rupesh Kumar (20), both residents of Lohgarh village, hailing from Uttar Pardesh. Both the victims were working in Sector 19 rehri market, Chandigarh. The investigating officer ASI Shamsher Singh said the incident occurred around 10.30 pm when they were moving towards Lohgarh village from Chandigarh on their
motorcycle. While they reached near the dhaba, the canter rammed into their motorcycle and both fell on
the road.
They both sustained serious injuries.
A passerby after informing the police took them to the GMCH-32, Chandigarh, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. The canter driver reportedly fled. The bodies have been handed over to the family after conducting a post-mortem examination at the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi. A case has been registered against the driver
of the canter.
Jewellery stolen
Lalru: The police has arrested two persons for stealing gold jewellery from a house at Sarsini village. According to information, the thieves decamped with the jewellery from the house of police employee Jang Singh when the family was away from house. The theft was noticed when the wife of Jang Singh returned to the house yesterday. The complainant stated that 40 gm of gold jewellery was stolen after breaking the lock of the house. The police had registered a case against two labourers Raju Yadav and Gian Singh who were living in the same village. One succumbs to injuries
LALRU: A student of Punjab Engineering College, Lalru, today succumbed to his injuries at the GMCH, Chandigarh. The deceased was identified as Natish Kumar of Bihar.
According to information, Natish was injured in a road accident near Sarsini on the national highway when he was going to Ambala and was hit by a car.
He was admitted in the GMCH in a serious condition on December 28. The police had booked the car driver,

Mohali, January 1 Inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC have been initiated in the case. The mishap took place as the tree branches were precariously close to the live wires. Neither the municipal council nor the electricity department bothered to distance the wires from the tree.
